There is a 1st Annual Horse-Slaughter Convention coming to the South Point Casino in Vegas on Jan 3 thru 6......all the pro-slaughter folk from across the nation will be in attendance and we are looking for anti-horse slaughter people to attend. More more info call me (518) 753 7791 Thanks. Pass the word around.
Things have happened that might explain everyone all of a sudden going quiet.
Specific allegations were made to the Attorney General in a public meeting about NDoA arranging illegal sales of horses to private citizens, threatening to kill orphan foals if favors weren't done for the Director, writing phony paperwork to ship horses out of state and more. These are only allegations until proved, but I hear people were asked to sit back let the AG do her job.
Regarding my "real name," anyone who doesn't recognize a screen name that I've used since the 90s can figure out who I am in my profile.
Most people who use these blogs know how to look up a profile.
These blog comment posts are limited to 500 words. Most of the time I use them all up.
Since you're passing on false and malicious accusations, I'll to break it down for everyone. The real, not imagined facts, are verifiable in the state records. Continued...
Well I guess Tony L. didn't have his facts right then as that's where I got my information. I meant the VRWPA will do what is best for the horses . It's you throwing "barbs" and at the NDA . What's your name anyway? Why are you hiding it?
HEY,WILDHORSEGUY...Willis Lamm. Why won't you use your real name ?The dept of AG has enough proof regarding those 300 -400 horses that were taken off the range and sent to Ca ,TX and beyond that they have an on going investigation..Otherwise they would not waste the time and money..
Sounds like you and Ray Field are upset because the VRWPA has a working relationship with the Dept. of Ag. They will help the horses and do what is best for them. I think some just want to exploit them.
The agreement says in Part 3 that the Cooperator retains ownership of the horses for one year. Does that mean that after a year the horse belongs to the adopter? And if it belongs to the adopter, who has the right to tell the adopter what he (or she) can (or can't) do with it?
Sounds like accountability or compliance ends when a year is up.
My major is English, not math or semantics, so someone please help me out here.
Dir. L says that there were hundreds more horses than estimated. So how can hundreds be missing at the same time?
I got a copy of the cooperators agreement. It says the groups have to send quarterly reports. But another page says to ignore the quarterly reports. If compliance is an issue, why drop the reports?
If the groups are based in several states, shouldn't we expect their horses to be there too?
The Department shall annually review the actions of the cooperating person or entity for compliance with the agreement. The Department may cancel the agreement upon a finding of noncompliant actions.
---
So the Director has to come up with some kind of wrongdoing or noncompliance to dump the cooperators. Then he can sell horses.
Only one problem. The active cooperators (and some are still active) are complaint!
Just a quick comment. This is obviously an empotional subject. I want to thank everyone for respecting different points of view and for making your posts about what's going on, not flaming or dissing each other.
NRS 569.031 NRS 569.031 Cooperative agreements for control, placement or disposition of livestock: Required provisions; annual review by Department; cancellation. The Department may enter into a cooperative agreement for the control, placement or disposition of the livestock with another agency of this state or with a county, city, town, township, peace officer, poundmaster or nonprofit organization.
The Slick Gardner horses abuse case in Buellton included both Dann and Virginia Range horses. I have photos of the VR horses before they went to Slick. James Kicker and I met with Don Henderson protesting the Slick deal and predicting exactly what happened. Bottom line - Henderson, at Paul Iverson's request, violated NRS 569.080 by not placing those horses through legal cooperators which he could have done. It produced the largest horse "disaster" in modern CA history.
Karen Woodmansee is working up a news story on the supposed 24 horses hit in the past year. So far she's come up with a half dozen. I think the number is closer to ten, including county roads. Certainly far less than 24.
There have also been cattle, deer and a cougar hit. It's open range.
There are no flashers but NDOT maintains a few miles of Strieter Reflectors which work when properly maintained. The only horses hit there were where reflectors were knocked over.
Here's the punch line. People did discover "trap corrals." It made the front page of the news. What Director Lesperance subsequently kept quiet was that he discovered that they were his Department's very own corrals that had been set up for Dr. Thain's University birth control program... a very PUBLIC project.
These NDoA guys are the Keystone Kops.
The Director can sell horses at will if he has no cooperators. Discrediting cooperators is the end game.
Watch the video. One of the few things Lesperance got right is that the aerial survey showed a couple hundred more horses on the range than anyone estimated. So there's no shortage, just a surplus. The poaching rumor started when a leader of one of the groups got a "tip" from a telephone psychic who had a vision of horses penned up in a corral. Then the rumor took on a life of its own. The aerial count (1448 horses counted) was real.
Same old blind prejudice. The wild horses of the Virginia Range add so much that is truly valuable here in this part of the West. They are aesthetically pleasing and they enhance the ecosystem. They greatly reduce the flammable vegetation and in the process they build the soils, making them more moist and provisioning of the regional aquifer. They also seed so many of the native plants. But humans force their ruminant livestock unnaturally upon the ecosystem and won't even let them adapt.
It's VERY interesting that the NV Dept. of Agriculture is investigating who took 300-400 wild horses to CA, TX and points beyond. So who is still "mustanging "? The truth needs to come out . At least Tony L. is going to get 100 % accountability as to where these horse will go from now on and made it grand larceny not to do so. Who was supposed to maintain the flashing lights on Hgw.50 ? Why hasn't this been done?
All he has to do is look a the MoU records.....duh. I took some and still have most of them. Slick Gardner took several hundred - they were confiscated by animal control. RTF has some. Certainly there's hundreds of them out there in adoption-ville and their titles have long been passed.
He's tracked them to Calif, Texas and beyond....yeah? What's the point?
He mentions accountability but is ready to take the "heat" when he accounts for them going to the sale yard.
You don't have all your information. I'm quite familiar with the horses both Dann's and Comstocks.
Before he took the Dann's horses he took a few hundred Virginia Range horses.
Jean Marie-Webster took most of the Dann's horses when Slick was finally shut down. Animal Control took the Comstocks and farmed/adopted them out all over the place.
What does this have to do with the present situation and these different horses? Maybe you don't understand but there is an ongoing investigation as to where horses have gone lately. That was what Mr. Lesperance was saying.
I was trying to make a point but it got off track. So where's the brand inspections and health certs?
NDA stopped renewing the cooperative agreements a long time ago so there haven't really been any signed terms or conditions. That's probably why he can't find them now. I think its laughable that he wants accountability, yet he's willing to sign their death warrants anyway. That's what I don't understand. Can you enlighten me?
Pro slaughter propaganda and nothing more.Listening to this man enfuriates me i want to smack him in the muth and shut him up and tell him the true facts!!
If I read this right, you are saying that VWRPA will be put in a sticky mess by being the only group authorized to place the horses. Then if they cannot place them all as they are pulled off Lesperance will be able to blame VRWPA for not doing a good enough job.
Apparently it doesn't matter how much service the various wild horse organizations have provided to the horses and to the state, or how many tens of thousands of dollars these organizations have saved Nevada taxpayers. All that seems to matter to this administration is whether you do or don't go along with their agenda to eradicate Nevada's wild horses.
Lesperance complains of no accountability in the Virginia Range Horse program and suggests through innuendo that the adoption groups, most whom have served the state for years, are to blame and somehow corrupt or inept. Let's look at what really happened.
The adoption cooperators used to file quarterly reports to the Department that indicated the status and location of each horse received during the previous 12 months. It was the DEPARTMENT that ELIMINATED this quarterly report requirement.
Please save the Virginia Range horses. Whatever it takes. I do not understand all of this, but i do know that something is not right. Yes, let them run.
Since the Director feels that VRWPA is "the only horse organization that is legitimate", he should be told that their name IS NOT "Virginia Range Protective Horse Association", but is "Virginia Range Wildlife Protection Association". Since the remaining organizations are not "legitimate" in his opinion, they probably should return all the Virginia Range horses they have been supporting!

shouldn't those horses go to homes? they are feral. Domesticated critters gone wild. They live longer in someones care than out on the range......
I hope everybody gets what they want in this situation. But mostly I hope the horses get the care they deserve.
