Man, the 1998 race had some sweet rides. That howling Ferrari V12 333 SP prototype, the turbo monsters comprising of the Porsche 911 GT1-98, the Toyota GT-One and the Nissan R390 GT1, not to mention the failed but still awesome Mercedes CLK-LM and original BMW V12 LM.

also according to me the toyota gt-one is the best looking race car ever designed for le mans. it looks even better than the ferrari fxx. the new audi's and Peugeot looks good but when compared to that toyota they suddenly become ugly.

'98 was a great race, although the rules were so screwy. Loopholes allowed the Toyota GT-One, Mercedes CLK GT1, and Porsche 911 GT1 to be the three fastest cars on the track, while they "should" have been slower than every Prototype car...

It's kidna sad though that they changed the rules. The Toyota has become an iconic car and it only raced 2 seasons (and only a few races at that).

Yes it had only raced at Le Mans both those years, which was their weak spot. Not goign to other races with it like Sebring didnt allow it to shake out some ofh te bugs it had. The car had alot of potential, and its unfortunate that Toyota decided to go to F1, where their results were dismal. I would love to see the FIA bring rules to allow such cars to race again.

I love this track, Circuit De la Sarthe, I honnestly Like how the GT-ONE, R390 GT-1, and the Mazda 787B are made, similar bodies with V8's that rev up allot. (Oops sorry, Mazda is rotary engine not V8. lol)

I personally like the R390 GT1, but Toyota's GT-One is incredible.

I don't know what anyone else thinks, but Speed Channel (or whatever they're calling it now) needs to go back to the way things were in the 90's and early 21st with constant coverage of Le Mans, Sebring, F1, etc. Now it's primary focus is NASCAR, nothing against anyone who adores such an event, but I just don't like it and the reason why I don't like it is truly ironic..

funny how all the kids from the play station generation are all praising the nissans and toyotas.the only cars with real racing pedigree here are the porsches and mercedes benz's and to some extent the bmw.i cant stand jap cars competing at le mans.

@stillious I think what marvinbenz is saying is that the the playstation generation identifies with the japanese marks because thats what is popular with the young playstation generation. What these young playstation generation realize is that the japanese marks were not dominant and its funny to see the young kids comment on the japanese cars because thats what they know.

Good ol' 333SP. Le Mans was the only nut it never cracked. It won Sebring, Daytona, and many other races. Great sounding car, but it went out of date. I loved watching them battle tooth-and-nail with the Dyson Ford R&S cars in the US. That was some intense stuff!

Why now in ALMS, LMS, Fia GT open the all of the Porsches are 997 when 996 are better?In ALMS now the Ferraris are domminating the 997 porsches.Before 996 where smashing the 360 and the 430

the 997 has been hailed as the ultimate 911. last year, Ferrari decided to focus their factory efforts on the FIA GT. the Risi team in the ALMS had an under-developed car. not to mention the top teams in GT2 were all running 996s.

this year, Ferrari has concentrated their efforts on the ALMS. Porsche has also lost a few of its top teams (white lightning, alex job racing). the 997 is a hundred pounds heavier than the 996 but has more power. it still needs a bit of development too.
