One of the most beautiful piano pieces ever written (and perfomed with sublime subtlety here). It has influenced my own piano writing more than any other work. Thank you for uploading Ferbers masterly performance of this masterpiece.
Ferber nous enlève vers d autres horizons, c est du romantique pur avec une precise comprehension des harmonies de Faurè Il nous transporte dans une monde meilleur.....
He appears to have an ideal Fauré "feel", with melting harmonies and delicate clarity. The whole piece, thornier to master than one might think, is beautifully "directed", climaxes find their natural intensity and the closing phrases I find heart-rendingly tender & haunting.
Finally! We have waited a long time for this. His sweetness of sound and sensitivity is so unmistakably HIM! Even the passage work is melodic, not just passage work.Thank you a million times & looking forward to the rest.
In some respects, I like this interpretation even more than that of his teacher Marguerite Long. The long singing polyphonic lines of the piece sound more logical to me; on the other hand the clarity and brilliant touch of the passagework starting at 3:37 is unsurpassed in Long's version.
Is this a transfer from a vinyl record made in the 50s? The sound quality is excellent!
The recording is transferred from a vinyl disc of about 1973/4, so it was recorded in stereo. If you enjoyed this, I've just uploaded Ferber's recording of 'Jeux d'eau' which I think is also very fine
certainly among the best interpretations of this Nocturne ... enchanting ..
