  • Oh, soooo boring! This singer has very scarce vocal resources, I don't really think she should be ranked among first line singers, not even second.

  • Xxl

  • superb

  • I like her voice because it is similar to mine, and as for the people who say her voice is too small, that type of role is a soubrette, and the soubrette vocal range is very light and fine, so it is not meant to be very big and loud.

  • i like this woman's singing, its light which is good for the character, she's not supposed to be one of those super loud singers with the horn helmet and braids, i think she did a great job.

  • She sucks. Period! Who feels her voice is too small for this theatre and orchestra?

  • She sucks. Period!

  • Goodness I hate this woman's singing. Can she learn not to scoop like a pop singer?!

  • vankan0 great video clip. Thanks for that. did you know that de Niese has a recital album out in July first two weeks I believe called Diva. First time hearing her but I like very very much. danku vell. (supposed tobe thank you in dutch, sorry about spelling)

  • De Niese is just great here. Ok everybody agrees she's far from the best interpretation we've heard, but at least we have a play here that is good, and actors fits the ages of characters. It's something that I appreciate. The modern aspect is something that I like also, it's very well done and I'm not shocked by the choice of the turning set, it's convenient and it's not THAT cheap ^^

By the way the video starts a bit late.

  • Lol. I couldn't take my eye off of that Hello Kitty shirt.

  • What a fantastic young singer. Has she sung at the Met yet?

  • Yes, twice. Once in a dreamcast with Bryn Terfel and Cecilia Bartoli in Le Nozze as Barbarina (2001 IIRC), once as Suzanna in LeNozze in 2008 or 2009.

  • @prysmith37 and she just sang this role there for the first time last month.

  • Does Despina take condoms out of her boots and give them to her?

  • Wonderful, really enjoyed it the acting as well really natural

  • Wonderful to listen too

  • I love it, a Cosi where they actually look 15. Fabulous singing.

  • Good soprano... wow- I really like her singing.

Though I am rather too used to the 18th century dresses used in so many production....

    This is REALLY good.

  • Was that director on drugs? :-]

I highly recommend de Niese's Handel album, by the way.

  • The great voice is there, technique can be improved (Calas had faults, did't she). The whole set and costumes .. Dutch frugality or director's impotence ?

  • Hihi, Mozart would have being rolling on the floor in laugh concerning De Nieses performance but he would also enjoy it.

  • Did she debut at 16 or something?

  • Close. :-) 19

  • When she should have been studying TECNIC at the Conservatory instead of begin singing...

But she is so sexy that she will become an star although she doesn't know how to sing WELL....

  • Perdona pero de Niese canta de maravilla. Gracias.

  • what r u saying!! we have a great performer here!!!!! & have u watched Barbarina's aria L'ho perduta, when she was only19? go watch it then tell me!!

  • and on a frivolous note: my God!!!!! fashion crimes, all over the place!!!

  • she sounds good... and she is a good actress, too... but in terms of voice, I am not amazed..

  • I don't understand why Despina suggests such a feral outfit for Dorabella. Hawaiin shirt with a polka dot skirt???

  • i have to sing this for my exam in the music school!!!

  • This is one of the arias that helped introduce me to the Mozart repertoire many years ago. Wish you well.

  • Good singing, don't like the cheap soft porn set and dress; plus ill advised audience who clap before the end of the aria, honestly...

  • I agree about the audience. A bit uncharacteristic for this theater

    though.

  • Then again, it could be the conductor's fault as he does leave quite a long pause, more than usual, on that final bit, and that could confuse some members of the audience, who are less familiar with Cosi.

  • @vankan0 They probably wanted it to be over all ready ;D

  • Aw, how charming is Danielle de Niese? Thank you very much for all these videos!

  • I love this modern interpretation! Of course I'm partial to the Hello Kitty t-shirt, lol!

  • a condom? are you freaking kidding me? i mean i know they're in amsterdam, but really. is that the point? una donna a quindici anni dee' saper...to use a condom?

  • I am not going to defend the morals of "Così" but I'm surprised that you take exception to this detail. Despina is trying to induce the sisters into befriending the two strangers in a way that goes a somewhat further than holding hands. :-)

To give Dorabella a pack of condoms seems the sensible thing to do. What would you suggest?

15 anni have little to do with it: both sisters are engaged so have an age where you are worried that irreversible things happen if you don't take precautions.

  • then leave it out. completely unnecessary. e quindici anni si e' rilevante; l'aria si tratta di quello che deve saper fare una donna a quella eta', e non c'e' nessuna parola nel libretto che tare che una di quella capacita' e usare un preservativo. lasciaci almeno qualcosa di immaginare.

  • After all, we are living in 21st centery, are we not? That's the beauty of Mozart's music, that you can listen to it and understand it in any time, but the stage reading of caracters is something elese. If the director has a strong concepcion and viosin of how the work should be presented, and ability to convey his ideas with soloists, than we should just enjoy orselves.

  • She has a very beatiful voice. Very fresh and bright!

  • The whole final lasts 20 minutes and amounts to 170 MB, so I have to break that up. But yes, it is brilliant. Stay tuned, I'll see what i can do.

  • I simply adore Danielle de Niese! And Maite Beaumont! They act/sing so naturally, with great vocal and scenic charm. Can You please upload the finale of act I (with such a great actors it must be brilliant!), Dorabella/Guglielmo duet or Bella vita militar scene... Anything! Thanks a lot!
