I think a good bit of advice would be to first take either NES or SNES sprites and make a beta game. Use screenshots or video footage from NES or SNES games. If I knew the tools to use to make a DS game myself I would start on something. I do own 2 Ds systems and 2 Ninjapas X9 TF Flash Cards that I can use for things like this.

In GBA i do better sure, i say that, only use 2 scroll planes and sprite characters, and not use the tactil screen, this not homemade for DS its homemade for GBA. when i see a real demo with 3d characters (yes, DS can), use the tactil sreen to control the characters, use the second screen to show info and ahow all this on a DS emulator (only for the video quality) i say that this is a real DS Homemade.
