  • This is so late but is that a song youre playing in the intro? Or improv? Id love to steal it from you if you would allow me to :D

  • Hey guys I have a new video after years! Can you please check it out / support? Thanks :) - Gareth

  • what patch for first song

  • @monkeymauler1400 Hey sorry, it's a custom patch and I can't remember the settings, it was a long time ago =[

  • what patch??

  • Whats the setting you used????

  • this is nuts

  • Nice stuff mate! I wish I was half as good as you on the keys =]

  • aerith's theme!!!

  • gonna get this keyboard 4 christmas cant wait!!

  • @lucariopokemon1268 SAME HERE ^_^ haha i have been playing one of those cheap like 20$ keyboards or whatever just to mess with synths for like 3 years.. :P finally getting the real shit ^_^

  • In your opinion. Is the microkorg XL much better than this one ? Is he able to do these big sounds like the one at 0:49 ? cause I want to buy a synth and I'm hesitating between simple microkorg and microkorg XL.

  • Nice triubute to Final Fantasy at 2:05. ;-)

  • @GriathD Haha thanks. Probably still my favourite game of all time.

  • whoa. i could have some real fun with that...

  • Can you have standard piano and organ sounds with the microkorg?

  • @AlexStasXXXParanoid Not really. The whole point of the microKORG is to get away from keyboards that play piano sounds and get back to synthesizer sounds that you can't make with anything else, although there may be a few decent organ sounds on the microKORG. But also keep in mind it's got tiny keys. Its made for the electronic dance niche. Go get a rompler if you're looking for the piano organ string brass acoustic guitar upright bass saxophone stuff and forget the microKORG.

  • @TheRepublicOfJohn Ok, thanks for your reply

  • About this, where does the sound come from? I know you can plug it into speakers and amps and stuff, but what kind of cable do you need?

  • @RHunterGN Normal 1/4 inch cables, I would think balanced or unbalanced would work, but i'm not sure because i don't have my microKORG yet.

  • Oh i want badly this synth now

  • can i use this as a midi for a software such as aturia's v collection 2?

  • Nice!!! Fanatsy Fantasy VII. I cry.

  • What setting are you on?

  • what are the presets? and can you make a video on how to?

  • @Msp2011 This would be amazing

  • hey, i was wondering if i could use a bit of the begining part for a song? lemee know soon dude plz.

  • you should put up the settings and show how to play the begging part

  • hey this is jeffwwerock17, as you said in your description you own these songs and we need permission to use them well my band is going to start making songs with my microkorg that i got today, and i want to know if i can use the first song that you played as an intro for one of our songs?

  • hey, this is jeffwwerock17 and im getting a microkorg 2morow, also we are using it to makes songs with our band and you said that you own the songs and you need your permission to use them so im asking for permission to use the first song that you played? we need it as a melody

  • did i hear some final fantasy?

  • Can you record on the microkorg and if so can you transport it to your pc as mp3 files for example? Im new to this. Sorry for the newb questions. Btw, you can make some good DNB with the stuff you were playing. :) Peace

  • You can't record on the microKORG itself, it has MIDI out so you could record MIDI information to your computer, or use the 'out's on the back to record to your comp using cables. Don't worry eveyone has to start somewhere =] And thanks, Ill keep that in mind!

  • @GaxAngel how are the lows on this piece? I was deciding between this and the xl...also how do the sounds feel compared to software synths because i saw somewhere that regardless that this was technically handheld everything was digital with this... just making sure that thats BS and buying this is a good idea...

  • @SplitGenetics The MK has all the retro appeal. And is much more awesomer.

  • @GaxAngel what exactly do you need to record it on the computer cause i really want to start making songs with my synth but i have no idea what to do -_-

  • @hiddenfoxfilms There are many ways. Depeding on your budget though. 1) Jack to mini jack, a simple cable that goes from your synth (jack) to your line-in (mini jack) on your computer. Sometimes line-in might be called mic. 2) Another simple way is a mixing desk with USB input for recording, easy to set-up. If you have the money a Firewire sound card is probably best, although requires more technical know-how (I personally use a Audiofire 2 by Echo). You also need a recording program.

  • @GaxAngel Continued: Audacity is a great free program to start with, has a lot of features you can muck around. Eventually once you get better you could invest in some more professional software like Cubase, Pro tools or Adobe Soundbooth etc, or Fruity loops for it's ease of use. When you are used to recording you should start to learn about controlling 'soft synths' (computer based sound generators) which you can control via the MIDI in and out on your microkorg, or any other synth you have.

  • @todei79 the microkorg isnt gay. it doesnt use mp3. mp3 is gay. is uses real audio.

  • @todei79 I asked a guy at best buy about that, he said if you have a mac it works really great for that. So when I save up enough money, I'm getting a mac and a microkorg. bwahaha

  • great video, keep uploadin them

  • how about making your own patches instead of using pre sets

  • @glitchinga: Actually the first patch was made by me. Also 'rough video for people to see the synth', this was thrown together in 5 minutes over 3 years ago when I first got the synth, to show a few people, not to showcase any skill, or to show people my synthesizing abilities. Nowadays virtually my whole microKORG is custom patches.

  • Final Fantasy?

    Sick shit, man.

  • is there a way you can just plug this thing into a guitar amp?

  • yup. guitar lead, straight into the amp :D

    Simple as.

  • thats the only way i use mine

  • i still don't understand how to edit the sounds...can u make a simple tutorial about the different knobs and what do they do to the outcome of the sounds?

  • its around 350 euros now, but you find cheaper ones at ebay. its worth it its fun!

  • how much was the microkorg

  • $400 us dollars

  • i like some of this stuff im still trying to figure the dam thing out and edit the sounds the way i want them

  • thats gonna me my first synth too!! i sold my car for the money

  • Selling your car... that not a bit extreme, haha? Whatever makes you happy though I suppose =]

  • well it wasnt a running car...but yeah.. i live life to da EXTREME!!!

  • you'd make bob moog proud, selling you're car for a synth!!!

  • @dookieforlife12 You only got $300 for your car? haha

  • @FireofAugustine well it was a hunk of junk

  • like that little bit at the end. pretty slick.

  • thanks yall. Ima go with the xl just cuz i heard the sound quality is better and it has more patches or whatever to things like the vocoder. the useability i'll figure out.

  • Is it gonna be your first synth?

  • Heck yes. That's why it was so important to me.

  • nice playin man

  • What does the xl have that the microkorg doesn't..... so I can buy one already.

  • Sorry mate I've never really looked into it... But from a quick glance I'm guessing the XL bit is just the bigger keys.

  • @YvesIsaki

I've played around with an XL a littttlle bit at music stores.

It's got Drum sounds, Piano, and other fun presets. to be honest (a lot of people seem to think otherwise) The keys and body of the XL feel a little dinky to me, doesn't feel very sturdy. I don't know how else to explain that...

But right off the bat I felt the regular microKORG has a better/clearer interface and is easier to mess around with sounds.

    imo

  • The XL has better key action. It has better sound (that of course is a subjective point of view), it has some pretty amazing pcm instruments including a very nice Wurlitzer and Piano, E-piano and orchestral strings etc. In addition to this is does the analog modeling bit extremely well. But is it better than the old Microkorg ? Actually no. They are just a little bit different thats all. I got both. Couldn't decide. So now I play them in tandem. The bit starting at 0.58 is bloody amazing btw!

  • Yea you can just hook it up to any amp with a normal instrument cable and it works just fine, no laptop needed. it has no drum sounds really, I wouldn't recommend it if you were using it for that reason.

  • Hey man love it. Can i plug this into an amp? or does it have to be hooked into laptop at all times. If i could program beats in this that would be great.thanks hope u can help.

  • leaves a lot of room for creativity, this microkorg. doesn't it? I think with this and a good FX pedal you'd be set.

  • Squeegly646: Yea a lot of people pair it with a Kaoss pad. This is 2 years old, I now have, the microKORG, Juno G and an Electribe ESX-1. I should really get some more videos up, but I'm creatively lazy atm =[ lol.

  • i like this very much my friend very good!

  • Thankyou for the compliment!

  • what scales (keys) is this style taken from. it sounds awesome and i like this style but i'm not sure as to what key's it bases out of.

  • Everything but the ffvll song was good worst one of the game series XD all in all 5/5

  • @Zomgamidget are you joking? fvii owns your ass.

loove aeris' theme. good job bra.

  • I'd appreciate video responses! Just to throw some more videos out there. Just keeping the synth world connected!

  • :o awesome.... 5 star

  • Are these all preset patches or did you use sound editting software and overwrite them?

  • The first one is custom and I made it using the free editor, was going for a Shiny Toy Guns kinda feel. The other 3 are preset.

  • It's a shame that you can only press a few keys... Would have so much more possibilities. A looping function would be a great idea!

  • nice final fantasy 7 inclusion

  • Gareth your a beast at the MicroKorg! D4!

  • what?

  • Is there a freeze function for this synth? So for example, could you play a chord, make it continue playing once you have stopped pressing the keys, then go on to play something else over the top of it? Thanks

  • i wish =/

if there was. the microkorg would be the best fuckig thing.

    but there isnt =/

  • Oh right, well that won't put me off getting one, it would just have been an added bonus. But thanks for letting me know mate! =D

  • lol me either. i got one about a year ago and i love it (:

    it never get boring.

  • just buy a looping pedal..that should do the trick. you can record something then play over top of it.

  • What i do is just get celetape and stick the key down

  • i wish there was!

KORG should make a MK stage edition or something with that function!

  • pretty sure the arpeggiator does that...

  • sure there is, just increse the release, but i even think there is a function for that

  • ???

  • can u tell me the setings on the 1st and second ??

  • I'm sorry I can't tell you the settings I factory preset my microKORG, but the second song is a preset patch, I can't remember the number off by heart but its B something... and I think I may have lowered the octave, hope that helps.

  • if you look at the buttons and the display, you can easily tell:

on the first one it's A.14, but it's a custom patch by him, so that won't help you. but the second one is b.28, I tried it out.

  • no worries man! :)

  • Dude

    Second song is sick

  • thats badass

  • I like this a lot.

from videos like this ive actually been convinced to get my self one of these for christmas!

are they able to run through a mac?

  • Sorry man, I wouldn't know personally, haven't been able to try it through a mac yet... but I'm guessing there's gonna be ways to do it.

  • you can, via midi-usb or with a line-in cable from the mk to your mac.

  • first two tunes is workin it , especialy the second , maybe the fourth , dunno, i want to see ya workin thet secont tune with a beat for real , have ya got an emx1?

im serious in to that sht aya

  • Equipment is:

    Juno-G, ESX1, microKORG and a condenser mic.

I'll get working on full fledged beats just after xmas, I'm doing a lot of overtime at work for xmas so I've not had time.

But thanks for the comment, much appreciated.

    What's your setup?

  • cool video!....im thinking on buying a MICROKORG or an R3?....which one would you recommend?

  • get the R3, microkorgs kinda week

  • I've never tried the r3 personally, but I'm guessing it's more powerful. Depends on your budget too though. Have you bought one yet?

I now have an ESX-1 and a Juno-G for those that are interested, gotta say I'm pleasantly surprised.

  • I just got my micro and im trying to set it up could anyone give me some help?

  • What sort of help are you looking for?

    Just some general starting tips?

    Or something specific?

  • General

  • stevenp921: 1:This may be an obvious response but apart from trial and error another general tip is too read the manual, you'll learn many new terms and you gain so much. Even experts read manuals for a new synth to get used to all the new layout and different control setups.

2: If you want to create your own sounds and not use the starting patches *GET THE FREE SOUND EDITOR* and hook it up to your comp via MIDI, it's so much easier than the on board controls.

  • I'm getting a microkorg in a couple of days. Is there anything better for the same price out?

  • insane vid, do u think i can have the settings?

  • Ordered mine today! Can't wait!

  • Setting Numbers for the first rif? , i Got a chord partern of Am - F - C -Em , Nd i think the sound is great on it , bit of help!

  • is this a really useful instrument or just a toy with cheesy sounds?

  • It's incredibly useful. It's been used in many professional productions.

Bands like The Killers and even Snoop Dogg has this in their songs.

Some of the preset patches are pretty crap but it's great since you can save your own patches.

  • arr cool mate will ya send me the settings fo the midle cool bit of ur tune that high pitch arpegio thing on ur microkorg. just got mine 2day im tryin 2 learn bliss by muse but i dont now any settings thanks

  • bad ass.. props for those dark tunes... just wanted to see if anyone could help me changing the patches of the microkorg with a mac... :)

  • First off thanks a lot ^^.

Secondly I don't have a mac unfortunately, but, I think you change the patches in the same way as a windows pc.

You need a MIDI hub to your comp, I use MIDISPORT 2x2. connect your Korg up, on both MIDI in and out. Download the free sound editor for the microKORG on the Korg website.

Turn write protect off, shift+8 then turn first knob and you should be able to write and create patches easier! Hope that helps.

  • @carlosnata just ask korg

  • alright dude its Ross (blonde from collegE) thts crazy man love it!

  • Haha aye cheers man, play count won't bloody update it's annoying me lol. Long time no see, you still at college?

  • I just ordered one of these after browsing all the video's on Youtube. It sounds so totally awesome.

    Nice vid!

  • i keep coming back to watch this same clip cause its soo kick ass

  • i like your name

  • lol thanks :]

I like your response *thumbs up*

  • last bits very basshunter.. i like it

  • thats pretty kickass, im saving up for a microKORG right now actualy, so this vid just makes me want it more.

  • what is the second song and the fourth song ??

  • I wrote all material apart from the 3rd song, which is Aerith's (Aeris') Theme from Final Fantasy VII

  • First, amazing synth. I'm getting one my next paycheck, and aeriths theme! Hells to the yeah.

  • haha can't go wrong with a bit of Final Fantasy

  • can someone tell me if u can record on this synth?

  • it doesnt have any record features unfortunately.

  • would u say that this synth is mostly for effects?

  • I'd say it's probably most used for lead.

It plays better when accompanied with another synth or some sort of backing.

  • Does that mean ther is no way to record to an output? example, home recorder or tape casset?

  • You can take the outputs and plug them straight into a computer or anything else that records.

Jack to minijack cable is the most likely cable you'll need, that's what I use to record sound on my comp.

  • was this just the microkorg alone?

and can you create, like, your ow arpeggio sounds?

i'm getting this in 2 months.

    first synthever.

    yay!

  • Yea it was only the synth.

I made the first patch but the rest were the presets!

yea you can create your own arp sounds.

2 months is a while away hope it passes quickly for you lol.

  • Yea the keys are pretty small, but I didn't really find any trouble... and I do have pretty big hands.

If key size is an issue... there's always MIDI I guess!

But it should be ok :]

  • Honest question, How big are your hands? Cause iv'e heard the keys are too small and I have big hands so... Comfy or not?

  • Do you use the multi Timbre things in this demo?

    Great playing by the way

    :)

  • this shits fake lol jk good job

  • do you know how to edit the sound so you can play multiple notes? ive just got mine i cant work out how to do it yet /:

  • go on voice (control knob 1 far left) then on voice assign (knob 3) switch it to 'PLY'

  • Fieldy 63 nailed it...

It may seem long and boring, but if you're new to synths, read through the manual and look up tips on forums, it helps a great deal... or even just push all the buttons and see what they do :)

  • I've been looking at info and researching this instrument for the past month or so. I want one so bad, and this video makes me SO envious and jealous that I don't have one! Lmao. I also checked out your MySpace page and added you.

  • Haha you will get it one day =]

I had that feeling for a while!

I knew of it before it had been released... and I just sat there waiting day in and day out with no synth, cos I couldn't really afford any other one lol.

    Thanks for the support!

Hopefully buying a new synth for xmas, so keep a look out for a new video =]

  • is this shit pretty easy to use?

  • yea, after a few days you'll most your way around it's features.

The instruction manual has a lot of helpfull hints and tips too.

  • cool, how long did it take you to nget this good haha

  • uhm well i had piano lessons before but i didnt play anything oustandingly difficult in this clip.

you will be well underway within a few months...

making your own sounds and developing techniques

    =]

  • Woooo Gareth

    This stuff sounds great :D

  • ok nice thnx

  • can you save your synts

  • If you mean the individual sounds (patches) yea you can, the maunual tells you how to turn off the write protect then you can save =]

  • That was awesome! i was gonna buy one the other day..dont know why i didnt :( 5 friggin stars!

  • You should go out and buy it, seriously.

When I have my friends round they usually turn up my p.a and press random notes and it still sounds good haha. But obviously you can still tell the difference when someone knows how to play lol.

    thanks for the compliment =]

  • yeh im definitley gonna get one! id better get saving! keep the vids comin im gonna subscribe :P

  • Hey, what functions does it has as a vocoder? What stuff can you do with the microphone?

  • It doesn't have the best vocoder I've heard, but it certainly isn't useless, you can modulate your voice to quite a large degree...

I believe its 16 band, i could be wrong.

I'm not sure about all the technical details but if you find the manual online for the microkorg it will tell you everything

  • Just messing around.. haha

it well took you aaages to perfect it ;)

    ^_^

    i joke.

  • Aeris's Theme!!! Dude, that is awesome! lol - Watching this really makes me want to go out and buy a microKorg ,alas I still need to save... lol

  • one of the few people who actually noticed it was Aeris' theme! Well done haha. I know what you mean, even though its on the cheaper side of synths its still a lot of money to most people. =[ thank God for rich parents.

  • Dude.. your first synth part was so awsome.. do you have tabs for that?

  • =] thanks... give me some time to write up the tabs, its copyrighted tho lol, so you cant write your own beat to it without permission =P

if you wanna see how i put it in a song then check out the page. It's not finished I still have to record vocals, and make the drums better.

mysapce dot com forward slash theharmonyredshift

  • yo....in your opinion....wats a better machine??

the microKorg or the alesis micron?

    thanks

  • There's recently been a strong rivalry between these two! They are both excellent value for money. I would personally go with the Alesis.

But it's close, i recommend you look at the reviews for both :)

    Hope that helps.

  • Thanks for help, my problem is that I want to mix the melodie that i play on the synth with beats, maybe i make this on pc but i dont know if the beat can agree with the synth! I need a synth for making techno but the microKorg is quite cheap as other ones, do you know other cheap synth? ps: you are pretty good at playing microkorg, respect!
