  • Carrie rules everything around her!

  • “Did you read The Family Circus?”

  • OVER

  • Yeah Janet Weiss. Masterful.

  • i dig it

  • it's so hipster to not even know what a hipster is. hipster what??? i just bought these sunglasses and headphones because i like them. wtf is a hipster?

  • Nice titis !

  • too many bouncing boobies!

  • @leelove03

there can never be...... too many bouncing boobs

  • The guitarists boobs keep the beat for her

  • i caught a television scent on this song too. i like your drummer -- strong and dependable.

  • seems like everyone wants to be in a hipster band. not impressed with this at all.

  • It's so hipster to call everyone a hipster.

  • @morzettez CACAO!!!!!!!

  • @SMS2RR YOU JUST MADE MY NIGHT!

  • this song is reminiscent of Television. like.

  • @mizarkfob3 saw them live yesterday and they played See No Evil for the encore!

  • @sinnvollproductions I wanna see that!

  • @mizarkfob3 thought the same thing. the whole album is very television. it's great

  • very good drummer, unique and distinct...

  • @gyantic1 Janet Weiss. She is great. Check her out on the Sleater-Kinney albums (especially The Woods)

  • @R5d4d2 dude, seeing her drum changed my mind about how to play. Don't get me wrong her style is very much grunge and 60's and 70's rock influence but she just plays things a little differently its great!

  • they seem like all my uni art lecturers!

  • Seen some of their live videos a few months ago, started watching some Portlandia a few weeks ago and when I put this video on right now I was surprised that I didn't realize they were the same person until I read the top comment. She's so awesome. Their music is alright but I really enjoyed her energy in a lot of these live videos, especially when she plays Race Horse.

  • I'm in love with Mary Timony.

  • Um, yeah I'd like the yellow Schwinn please.

  • After watching Portlandia I can't tell whether this is satire.

  • @pljcbsn3306 You didn't know Carrie Brownstein was a musician before Portlandia? Check out Sleater-Kinney.

  • @pljcbsn3306 Sucks for you. Or maybe not.

  • @IbrahimJason They may not all (by your standards at least) be the best looking women that you have laid eyes on, but can you not appreciate that by playing the instruments that the play with the skill and energy that they possess they become slightly more fetching?

  • @VeraSeigal Their musical talent and there looks have absolutely nothing to do with each other. I think theyre talented, and really great to watch live. but just because theyre talented doesnt make them any more beautiful for me, maybe if i knew them personally i would think so, but talent has nothing to do with looks, unfortunately when people think like that, dipshits like katy perry are famous with no talent

  • @IbrahimJason By what I said, I didn't mean that their looks went towards how talented they were or made them seem more talented or vice versa. I simply meant that their talent(s) made them more attractive. If they had no talent at all there would be less for one to respect or like about them. Because of their talents one can respect the passion that they put into their lives and find them more attractive for it.

  • Lovin all the shakin boobies!

  • damn you KEXP! (or bless you, depending on how you see it) you show me ALL these sexy women that can play music better than I can in my WILDEST DREAMS- do you not want me to be happy with my girlfriend?!?!

  • Carrie Brownstein is a superhero whose superpower is being totally fucking awesome.

  • there should moshpits and crowd surfing and people knocking over the drum set no matter what type of music

  • she looks like the waitress in always sunny in philadelphia

  • Not a bra among 'em!

  • @paperbagthat And Im loving every second of that...nice!

  • Carrie Brownstein is a fuckin Renaissance woman. So cool.

  • All actors are automatically great singers, haven't you heard?

  • @spankula123 She was a great singer waaaay before she was a great actor. So relax.

  • cacao

  • its hard to believe carries 37, just turning 28 gives me hope i dont have to turn into

a conformist robot any time soon.....

  • FUCK FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE!!

  • @CarollinaBikes AMEN

  • @CarollinaBikes

    AHMEN!

  • pap

  • great stuff album roars

  • Carrie Brownstein = Best Lips in Rock and Roll

    Yes....Better than Mick Jagger's.

  • @phishinvan

    Get outta my head

  • @nmbr12753 oh, you know its true

  • @phishinvan Totally agree, Fancy kissing her ;-)

  • Carrie has got to be such a hard worker, Portlandia, a new band, touring, writing, recording, guest appearances. Sheesh.

  • We can pickle this band.

  • I think this is a far more mature band than Sleater-Kinney, but that's just me.

  • Right! Very cool Moms. I can dig that.

  • I like it, but I'd like it more with a bass player. I had the same issue with Sleater Kinney. Bass is what makes a band sound like a band. Without it you're just a bunch of noisemakers flailing.

  • @reid77 I can definitely see where you're coming from with that. I absolutely fucking love Carrie Brownstein, but I think that it would help for her to have something steady beneath the vocals. Especially when the band has such erratic-sounding guitar. It would definitely be a plus.

  • It doesn't sound nice to me... I think I should like it because you guys like it though.

  • Don't get the hype with this band. People are raving about the drummer when she's all over the place and sloppy.

  • i put a bird on this band. and then it was good.

  • @ofMilwaukee I used the safe word "Cacao" before listening to it

  • @ofMilwaukee - they put a bird on the music.

  • It sounds very cool, and they look like drunk punk moms...

  • Love the alternate lyrics in this version.

  • did anyone else realize that the lead singer is from Portlandia?

  • @slye1991 Haha shit dude, you'd make a good cop.

  • @slye1991 she was originally in sleater-kinney...carrie brownstein...amazing woman

  • Shit that was FN cool! Bird with the Teal Bigsby SG, (sweet guitar,is that from the 70's? ) doin Pete Townshend at the end..wicked!

Come to Canada, tour the prairies.

  • Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Umm...Does that count as a comment?

  • <3 new girl crush :)

  • Mary Timony! Rock's finest

  • Everything she's in will be fantastic... Helium, her own stuff...

  • Mary could sing lead here... anyone remember how utterly FANTASTIC her voice is?

  • Wow, had no idea this chick from Portlandia was in a band, a good band at that. Just thought she was an actress, a good funny one at that

  • @southrules The chick from Portlandia (Carrie Brownstein) was in the super awesome band Sleater Kinney too. She rocks!!

  • @asshat72 Yeah, funny thing is I listened to a little Sleater Kinney back in the day and just didn't realize the connection

  • 1:16 look at that fro-hawk!

  • I think Fred and Carrie played a demo of this in the day spa scene, Portlandia, Season One. Just kidding, this is fucking good!

  • Mary Timony is the awesomest Rawk Star ever. Carrie and Janet are lucky ladies.

  • now that is a thing of beauty. the ladies out there throwing it down and stomping on it for real.

  • good band, your mom on drums is good too

  • Mehhh

  • Sleater Kinney puh-lease!

  • @jmanuo87 Sleater Kinney, yes puh-lease!

There, fixed your post for you :)

  • check out MORFFE

  • Regardless of genre, I appreciate music as art form. But I don't understand all the fuss over this kind of thing, Sleater-Kinney, etc. What I hear mostly could best be described as the "cult of the ego." Heavy on the narcissism and one upsmanship: an affluent white class luxury of not needing to care about actual music the way poorer classes generally need it to "survive." See what I'm getting at? Wearing second hand clothes to be ironic; not because you need them.

  • @macikatica I see what you're getting at, but personally, I think you're reading way too much into this.

  • noticed a lot of focus on their boobs in this video.

  • @cudisatwin i think that's normal camera work. i think you had too much focus on their boobs.

  • Janet is a Sabian gal. Girl's got taste yo.

What a fucking shit hot drummer. Honestly. So much power.

  • @GenitalSuicide: Ah so she's switched then. Cos she did used to be a Zildjian player.

  • @GenitalSuicide Best rock drummer alive.

  • DAMN! They played Philly in March of this year and I missed them. Maybe they'll swing East again sometime soon, maybe in the spring. One could only hope.

  • these girls are amaaazing! I just loved Carrie and Janet on Sleater-Kinney.. but Wild Flag.. they're se much more mature.

  • MY GOD, This band it's a miracle! I love these girls.

Thank you, internet, you're so good to me.

  • Wild Flag in a bike shop. Doesn't get any cooler than that.

  • a 17 metaleros resentidos no les gusta esto

  • top class this like, blinding stuff ladies, knock 'em dead!

  • THOSE BOOTS!

  • As a bike freak and music lover I have watched this video 437 times. I guess its time to get professional help. Wild Flag sure rocks though!

  • wow. (yawn.)

  • these are some bad bitches

  • @gazofnaz

    yr stupid dood

  • whats the difference between warpaint and these?

  • Audiences

This video is most popular with:

    Gender Age

    Male 35-44

    Male 45-54

    Male 25-34

    LOL

  • @sulmagnificent I find these guys more upbeat, Warpaint a bit more mellow.

  • @sulmagnificent lol as hell, really....no.

  • Okay, this is officially my new favorite band!

  • This is so good it makes me want to freak out! (And whoever filmed it is a PRO).

  • I can hardly watch it because these stupid video editors keep switching the image every split second. It makes my eyes twitch and gives me a headache. I prefer the vids made by people with their cell phones who can hold a steady image for a moment.

  • @Techwarriorz The thing is, these "girls" are veterans from the Riot Grrl era. They're not just some random group of ingenues, they're established underground figures. If anything, all-male garage bands these days owe THEM, not the other way around. The rhythm guitarist and the drummer played in Sleater-Kinney. If that doesn't ring a bell, you've failed as a hipster.

  • @thegorillasnake can you name me some of these currently active male garage bands who sound like sleater kinney or cite them as influence ?

  • @mikebott I didn't mean that literally, but if we're talking through association, Sleater-Kinney are friends with Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, and anyone who was paying attention in the Nineties knows how influential they've been.

  • @thegorillasnake i wouldn' t describe pearl jam as a garage band, and they pre-date sleater kinney by at least 4 years. seems like you're the one failing as a hipster.

  • @mikebott Haha, no. You're putting words in my mouth. First off, you took my comment about male garage bands out of context. There were clearly the words "if anything" at the start of that sentence, which makes it hypothetical. Second, I said they were friends with Pearl Jam, not an insiration of theirs. My point is that if Pearl Jam is friends with Sleater-Kinney, the garage hacks are unknowingly linked to the latter. And I am not a hipster.

  • @thegorillasnake hypotheses can be wrong, or simply based on misinformation. 'garage rock' has been used to describe a genre since at least lester bangs time-the mid 70s. there have been tons of little garage revivals all through the 80s, 90s, and 2000s, and i don't think anybody cites sleater kinney as heralds of one of those, especially not the band themselves. and i would hate to be blaming them for something like wavves...

  • @mikebott And what makes you think I'm not aware of that and was just being vague? I was assuming Techwarriorz meant garage rock revival bands, such as Billy Boy on Poison (whom I dislike, by the by), and my response was geared toward that. And just so you know, influences can be indirect and uncited. Just ask Paul Banks, who didn't know he sounded exactly like Ian Curtis.

Just because I was sucking my thumb when Rapeman broke up doesn't mean I'm ignorant.

  • @thegorillasnake your point about influences being indirect through diffusion is well taken, but stone gossard and carrie brownstein still descend from very different styles of guitar playing.

  • @mikebott I didn't mean to imply otherwise. The only reason I mentioned Pearl Jam in the first place was to make a point about association, which I now realize was clumsy at best.

  • @thegorillasnake no worries... we had a heated exchange that never dipped into ad hominem or comparisons to justin beiber and or hitler... and on the internet that's a rarity.

  • @mikebott Screaming Females might interest you, moslty all male, the singer is a girl. if you want a kind of Sleater Kinney influenced band this one might be one you might like.

  • I don't think there're enough active all-female bands.

  • Wild Tube, You Flag!

  • CORRINE WROTE THIS STYLE

  • @smirch You are dumb, based on your baseless comment.

  • @smirch I agree with this guy or girl except the short fat girl is Corin Tucker who made the difference in making Sleater-Kinney sound like nothing else out there. And keyboards are fun, not totally necessary or rock-out-able, but fun nonetheless. And Brownstein really is good except on her blog when she wrote about herself she mentioned she is "fairly" good at the guitar. I don't think she has noticed how much of a goddess she is, or maybe she has and was being a compliment-fisher.

  • carrie brownstein is HAWT.

  • I want to hang out with Carrie and get high.

  • Saw it on this month's RS issue, given the rating I had to come and hear. Let me tell you: FANTASTIC!

@KEXP thanks so much for sharing the Wild Flag video- you did an awesome job capturing it! Any chance you could kick down the rest of the show?!?

I saw them live at The Black Cat in D.C. and they put on an awesome show. I'm this close to getting in the car and driving 8+ hours to Asheville to see their show tonight!
