Regardless of genre, I appreciate music as art form. But I don't understand all the fuss over this kind of thing, Sleater-Kinney, etc. What I hear mostly could best be described as the "cult of the ego." Heavy on the narcissism and one upsmanship: an affluent white class luxury of not needing to care about actual music the way poorer classes generally need it to "survive." See what I'm getting at? If anything, all-male garage bands these days owe THEM, not the other way around. The rhythm guitarist and the drummer played in Sleater-Kinney. 'garage rock' has been used to describe a genre since at least lester bangs time-the mid 70s. there have been tons of little garage revivals all through the 80s, 90s, and 2000s, and i don't think anybody cites sleater kinney as heralds of one of those, especially not the band themselves. and i would hate to be blaming them for something like wavves...
