Does anyone have this in better quality? I think I saw a version of Brown Eyed Handsome Man that was done entirely on the same show at a different time. I think I saw that on TNN a long time ago.
He was starting to loosen up a bit on the style. Love the more rugged side of him. Miss him, great talent. Unmistable voice. The only other voice that is comparable to me and this guy doesn't sing (least I dont' think he does) is Morgan Freeman.
Look at the very end of the "Only Daddy that'll walk the line" from SonyBMG up here- he is not a too good singer as well ;-)
Waylon survived the end of his career (the death of Buddy Holly) more or less... and that gave us the Waylon we know- may he rest in peace, great man..!
that is mel gibson on the drums--b4 southpark though----torture me please----- thanks 4 the waylon post---great stuff and keep it comin--- I enjoy the shit out of his music---thank you
That's Officer Jim Reed on the blue guitar, and Mel Gibson on drums.
Actually I think it's the Waylors from that era.. Billy Ray Reynolds on rhythm, Lee Miller on bass, Richie Albright on drums, and Ralph Mooney on steel. I think that piano player was from the show's staff band.
This was from a syndicated TV show called 'That Good Ole Nashville Music'. I believe it was shot on the stage of the Ryman during the week, but I could be wrong about that part. It was on during the sixties and seventies.

DonnaWerhan 2 years ago
@DonnaWerhan His name is Billy Ray Reynolds, longtime friend of Waylon, and sadly also one of his pallbarers

This brings back a lotta great memories from the days when country was country - and was worth listening to. Thanks for posting, Alexbleks!

This is the country I was brought up on. From the late-70s onward the whole scene fell to crap.

The bass player is pinned against Waylon's amp by his own cable and he can't move around at all.

He is just plain COMPLETE! You know he was with Buddy Holly's "Crickets", don't you? So glad he took the bus!

I'm sure glad he took the bus too!:)We would have missed out on alot of great music if he had been on that plane. Plus, we wouldn't have Shooter!

Doesn't look like The Waylors to me lustermatics. Waylon was so great. Such a distinctive voice and sound.
rexanater 5 years ago
Whoa, Waylon could sing the Brady Bunch theme and still be a bad-ass! He was a one of a kind.
As a side-note, who are these guys backing him up? (other than Mooney). It's the same group from the Hee-Haw videos posted on here?
lustermatics 5 years ago
I think one of them is Jim Reed from ADAM-12
