  • i like it...

  • I'm glad I walked on by, to hear this classic, one of my favorites.

  • I love this song. Being from Enid Oklahoma, my favorite song is the auctioneer song

  • Attn: All the young country stars waiting in the wings- This is country music!

  • This song was popular back in early 50's about 52 if memory serves

  • When was the song recorded???

  • @Ripley44mag 1961

  • The real thing.

  • another great singer and song

  • He is still fantastic!

  • Thanks for sharing this great video of this classic song. What is the name of Leroy's original guitarist? I love those riffs.

  • Is he still alive?

  • @zaaritha yes

  • En helt otrolig fin låt. fina minnen till den

  • Leroy is still fantastic! I saw him last week at the Missouri State Fair.

  • HELLO!! Quite a character, and he got better looking with age.

  • I love this song, but this was an awful rendition. It was rushed...entirely too fast. The back up singers were too loud and off key. It was nothing like Leroy's original recording.

  • Don't worry about the sync, just listen to the song. :D

  • I love this song but the backing singers seem as flat as a witches tit.

  • @Goblinshead haha

  • Very poor edit

  • Good song, but lips aren't matching what's being sung like Lune said. I know that's Leroy Van Dyke's voice.

  • Great sync. 8-/

  • Hopalong

I guess, but are these guys even singing this song? Their lips don't seem to match much of anything. The song's marvelous, though. I rather prefer Patsy Cline's dirge attitude, though.

    Lune

  • One of the best, I am like every other person of this time period. It brings back so many comforting thoughts and good times

  • fett skön video och sång

  • ja visst äre

  • Number one Billboard song of all time! 19 weeks at number one and 42 weeks on the charts. Saw him this past week, still got it!

  • I have to say. Please don tpost if the muic and the words don t match up with the video. Mr VanDyke was so much better than this protrayed.

  • 100% Classic!

    Thanks for posting it.

  • Very Cool!

  • I saw him in Cambridge Ontario Canada 1979. When you have waited 16yrs to shake this guys hand. Just a little park, small time gathering. There he was, big as life...

  • 1961!. My life. He was fantastc,. They come and they go.

But it is the impression they make.

    You will never know.

Leroy was one of a kind. You were not here in 1961.... I was.

  • Did Faron Young ever cover this song?

  • i can so imagine hank hill chillin to this tune

  • Check out that keyboard man...Farfisa Compact Duo. One of my old bandmates (Rob Embrye) had one.

  • Thank you for sharing this classic.

  • glad y'all could set a spell.

  • When this song was first released a minister of religion wanted it banned, he said it was obviously about a married guy indulging in adultery, Oh my how times change .

  • This looks like it was from the Ozark Jubilee. Anyone know for sure?

  • Brilliant Song and vid

  • can any one tell wut kinda amp is in the background

  • The piggy-back style flip top amp is an old Ampeg vaccum tube bass amp. They made a B-12 and a B-15 but this might be a two speaker model as it looks wider than the ones I've seen.

  • Hello........walk on by.love the background vocals...eeeeeeehaw.....

  • The lady doing eeeeeeehaw on vocals is from Lafayette, Louisiana. I forgot her name, but I have met her. She is currently president of the Louisiana Country Music Hall of Fame

  • I think its Steve

  • I love the organ in the background.

BTW anyone know the name of the drummer? He looks very familiar.

  • kpenn0910, the drummers' name is Joel McDuffee, he worked for Leroy for some 11-12 years somewhere in the mid 60's till approx 77. After Joel got off the road with LeRoy he and I worked in a local band around Nashville until approx 2000, and even after that a few gigs until 2006. Joel passed away in 2007, he was perhaps the best pocket drummer I ever worked with. He is still missed!

  • Thank you so much. My dad was a big CW fan in the early sixties and I KNOW I saw Leroy in person at least twice. I just remembered the drummer because he didnt have slick backed hair and was just constant without bringing a lot of attention to himself (I was a grade school drummer during this time so I focused a lot on drummers). Thank you so much for answering my question. I really appreciate it.

  • GR8 BACK UP VOCALS...EH

  • This was live television. Clearly the boys were standing a little to close to the mic. Plus in those days, they did not have the sound boards available now.

  • 'His record of "Walk On By" (1961) was named by Billboard Magazine in 1994 as the biggest country single of all time, based on sales, plays and weeks in the charts. It stayed at number one for nineteen weeks, and in all, charted for 42 weeks, selling approximately three million records.' The above quote is from Wikipedia.

  • I believe this song was voted the greatest Country song of all time wasn't it? He never really followed this record up with anything near as successful, but he was still a darned good singer. Great clip.

  • great song, but if I am not mistaken, the greatest country song of the last century was "stand by your man" by Tammy Wynette

  • Great song!!!! Why can't this kind of music be around now? I mean it's a bunch of garbage nowadays on the air waves and if it were up to me I'd fine them BIGTIME!!!

  • I noticed the eyebrow raise at the 1:17 mark of the video.

"You smell what Leroy is cookin'"?

  • LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. Leroy Van Dyle is great

  • i'm related to him my aunt married ben his son ya it is koo

  • Singers of Leroy Van Dyke's ilk had distinct voices that were unmistably identifiable, unlike singers now days who all sound alike.

  • Josh Turner is alright

  • He had a wonderful voice!

  • I love the song but I really like playing the guitar and singing to it...always have.

  • Great song, and a classic. Written by Kendall Hayes, Leroy Van Dyke's recording of the song sold three million copies.

  • i can remember this being voted on bavid jacobs juke box jury on the bbc in the early sixties.great.

  • Leroy Van Dyke is still performing and sounding as great as ever. leroyvandyke-dot-com Lots of appearances in Branson in 2007. Check out his tour schedule.

  • I love listening to the oldies! Nice....

  • Thanks for Posting. I remeber hearing this song a while back. I bet a lot of Todays generation would have a hard time relating to this music (True Country Music).

    Cheers,

    Art

  • He had a good voice!
