I am not sure if this is the kind of bird I have seen and heard out side of my house, but if it is, it has the ugliest voice ever, and so loud. Keeps me up in the morning when I wanna go back to sleep. The other day it was three at once, walking around the house, all screaming. I feel like setting up a trap, just so I can punch it in the face somtimes and let it go again, hopefully it finds a new territory, not 10 metres from my house.
@Dumno Corvo imperatore is a beautiful name. Thanks for sharing that...I am in love with this bird and have one that lives near my home. He caws out at exactly the time I am to arise for work. He has also raced along side my car as I head out for work. What a most fascinating creature. Namaste
I think its FANTASTIC, showing these types of videos. Not only does it "educate folks", but preserves the Common Raven, from further persecution. I've been in the avian field myself, for nearly 25yrs now. And the "Corvid species", have always remained my favorites. That being said, if anyone out there who sees this video, wants to learn more about these gorgeous birds. I'd be more than happy, to field any questions from you. As i've spent a GREAT deal of my life, studying these birds.
Help- My son just dropped off a baby Raven for me to care for. I put him in one of my parakeet cages- he is a big bird! I tried to feed him some dog food and a couple woms- what should I feed him? If I let him out side will other ravens help him or will the neighbor's cat help Him?
@n15M0 I know some species of birds from the parrots family are lifetime monogamous (2 birds together for their entire life) while others are serial monogamy (coupled for a season only) like the pidgeons family species.
I looked it up on wikipedia and it says the corvus family is mongamous cooperative, which means the are monogamous and they form families of coupled birds to help in the breeding.. like dolphins I believe they do the same. But it does not specify if they are lifetime or seasonal
@n15M0 interesting... the top three species form social groups to school their offspring like dolphins, ravens and humans... but only ravens are monogamous. Dolphins and Humans are not monogamous and they even show homosexual behaviour.
I suppose birds are quite amazing specimens aesthetically, I would have to say it's all mating rituals and show. the best bird ever by far is either the Macaw or the mimic bird, for their amazing intelligence (macaw) or their superb grasping of a sound, just after hearing it (mimic obviously).
@Mduenisch Common ravens (Corvus corax) are often regarded by ornithologists as the most intellegent of all birds; they're one of the few species to display the often rare mental ability of 'insight'-solving a problem through an innate understanding of the situation rather than through trial and error. Mimicing, which is also a common trait among most corvids, is seen throughout the bird world, not just in parrots; they're just the most well known for this ability.
You don't know what you're talking about; not all kids shoot birds when they get BB guns, and besides, you don't know what God put birds on Earth for.
And make them absolute fags. Ever seen a crow pick out the eyes of a living, innocent lamb? That's what your fucking wonderful animals are capable of.
I miss living around ravens. They're around in the southwestern US, but there aren't a lot of them.
Coolest ravens are in Southeast Alaska. They're HUGE...the big ones are almost as big as the bald eagles, and they'll fight (and lose, but still) with them for prime perches.
I just found in the internet " Corvus unicolor" crow that is thought to be extinct is found not extinct at all. They are not extinct. I check the utube if there is a video clip of this crow but it seems there are none.
" I am Roac son of Carc. Carc is dead, but he was well known to you once. It is a hundred years and three and fifty since i came out of the egg,but i do not forget what my father told me. Now i am Chief of the great ravens of the mountain"
Wonderful bird... in Italy we don't call it "common raven" but "corvo imperatore" (emperor raven) because it's the biggest and the most beautiful of crows.
6 months ago, I have seen one near my house, in Belgium. Where they are extinct since 1917-19. Rare occurence, it made the jackdraws go crazy who felt threatened by its presence.
Aww, she's knocking! This is the one call which is unique to female ravens. It's a grand display which basically means "I'm female, and I want the world to know!" It's called knocking because it sounds like a rapid descending clatter or repetitive knock. Such a beautiful bird!
have u ever seen an white raven? i have and i can say that it is the most beautiful animal..

How do you tell a raven from a rook in the field ? They both look the same to me. Big, bulky crows with large beaks ?

i have a question. How do ravens couple? like female and male
n15M0 1 year ago
@n15M0 the male fertilize the female so she can lay the eggs and incubate them so they can hatch into birds

@BR177 well yes. sorry i formulated my question wrong. do they stay together, like marriage kinda, or they go on to other?

Birds are the most wonderful creatures God put on this earth. They're smart and beautiful!!
Parents, don't be like my dumb father and buy your sons a bb gun because they'll more than likely shoot birds for "the fun of it."
Buy your kids cameras and/or art supplies ... and tell them to cherish these creatures by studying them and reading up on them.
God did not put these wonderful animals on the planet to be used as targets (as my stupid dad thought)!
