  • THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THIS, SAVED ME A LOT OF HEADACHES. THANKS AGAIN. VERY KIND AND HUMANE OF YOU! PEACE...

  • I have an issue to where whenever i play notes via the midi track in cubase, all of the notes from the piano get clipped no matter how low i tun the volume down in cubase and/or reason :/

  • I am doing everything you do and my headphones aren't broke and my jack is fine but I don't understand why it is making absolutely no sound it had sound the other day and was creating a song and now I can't even hear anything an I can't figure it out and it's really frustrating me, I seriously need some help but I can't figure out why no sound is being made, please help!

  • @EresHughesy Really can't support you fully via youtube comments. Give me a call at 1.855.553.7205 and we can talk, I'll give you a trial to show you what we do :)

  • ok, nice nice, how can you bounce the reason stuff to audio for cubase audio pool?

  • @TippetTheTuber You can do an audio mixdown, using the Reason tracks as a bounce source, and clicking "import to pool" in the export options.

  • I normally don't leave You Tube comments but this was so helpful I just had to say thanks. That stupid mufti-instrument triggering being caused by Cubase and Reason using the keyboard has been annoying the "eff" out of me! Thanks for the fix.

  • @kld308 Thank you! I'm so glad to help. Call me if you want to work one on one. /brian

  • @ObediaTutor sounds like a plan! Looks like we're both here in LA and in the IT & music business we should definitely connect. Do you have anyone who works with Avids?

  • @kld308 We are actually the support partners for Avid and their Artist Series of controllers, and we do a lot of Pro tools support, as well - let's definitely connect! Call us anytime and we'll talk :) /brian

  • hi great vid but what about using and copying rex files via rex player (dr rex) into cubase. When the pattern is copied to track it only appears on the Reason sequencer...after searching high and low i cant find or work out an answer...someone please help!!!

  • @Cline69dude REX files are really only to be used in the REX player. If you want the audio of the Dr. REX into Cubase, you can rewire that specific channel into Cubase and record the audio output of it.

  • Somebody can tell me how to change the format track from reason after you finish the proyect? i want to change to mp3 but i cant find the program for;.... any idea? please help

  • @SANC2775 You can't save an mp3 from reason, so you'll have to use a converter program to do that. You can use itunes, or a program called Cdex on windows to do so, or save an mp3 from the .wav file after importing it into your cubase program.

  • @SANC2775 That is done in the export settings. Click file/export and change the file export type - we also have a video on this in our Cubase tutorials.

  • Unfortunately, Rewire support was dropped in LE4 and remain dropped in LE5. So it's not really a compatibility issue per se.... it's just a lack of functionality.

  • thanks man....helpful stuff....why didn't you just de-click Use keyboard in reason instead of deleting it?

  • @SamLeChiq Personal preference, I suppose :)

  • rewire kicks ass indeed

  • @Aleque I love it!

  • hey...i have a problem with rewiring cubase to reason it keeps saying reason engine failed check rewire host....but if i rewire fl studio its works fine does anybody no wot it could be

  • @UpNorthFellaZ Could be a lot of things.make sure you're starting cubase first, then reason. Reinstall Reason. Reinstall Cubase.

  • @ObediaTutor i opened cubase first then reason but what i dont get is iv had them rewired b4 so i dont no whats happend

  • @UpNorthFellaZ got the same problem... have you found a solution ?

  • @iicyzX nah man i heard bout trying to uninstall then reinstall but cant be arsed doing that shit lol ill jst keep importing audio file to cubase

  • @UpNorthFellaZ Yeah, try reinstalling reason.

  • @iicyzX Reinstall reason is the place to start.

  • Any idea of a way to copy the tracks in my reason sequencer over to the cubase sequencer?

  • @yourordinaryme There's no way to do that, except to export the audio from reason and import into Cubase.

  • @ObediaTutor Oh okay, its kinda off topic, but do you also have any idea where to get the vocal editing vst for cubase? (autotuner e.g.)

  • @yourordinaryme There are tuning capabilites in the later versions of Cubase, such as 6. Otherwise, you'll need a plugin like Antares AutoTune.

  • Rewire is the way to go, have a listen to a few tunes i cobbled together using cubase and reason on my channel

  • WHOEVER INVENTED REWIRE WAS A FUCKIN MUSIC GENIUS!!!!!!!

    #period.point._______

  • @PROLiFiCK3YS You can thank our friends at Propellerheads for that ;)

  • what is the point of rewiring? does it allow you to make beats on reason then record audio on cubase? cuz if thats the case then i will do just that

  • @Egyptut it lets you link your cubase and reason projects.

  • @ObediaTutor i wd be happy..if the master keyboard ctrl automatically get disabled from reason when we use it as a rewire ..

  • @Egyptut it also means you have the huge sound bank in reason and mainly an advantage if you're used to cubase or whatever

  • thank you i was trying to figure out why it was playing 2 sounds at once and now i have disabled the controller in reason ands its great thanks agian !

  • @BLAZINBEATS123 glad to help! Thank you for watching, please sub!

  • I followed the steps you show but when I tried to open reason it says to check my rewire host. Do you guys have any solutions to this problem?

  • Does anyone know how to work REDRUM in reason? I do not know how to make it start and stop at specific times. Like if I want REDRUM to kick in after 8 bars and then stop after 4 bars, how would one go about programming it to those starts and stops?

    Anyone?

    Please!

  • @trickthemartyr Just record your redrum performance into your reason sequencer. Then you can change the bar length, time, etc.

  • @trickthemartyr on the sequencer set the L and R locators to where you want the drums to be. Then, on the ReDrum, input your drum sequence. Right click on the ReDrum and select 'Copy to track' (or something along those lines) and you should see that a drum section has been added to the note lane on sequencer. Double clicking this allows you to go in and edit the beat however you want, using the pen tool. Or, go to the ReDrum note lane and use pen tool to draw a block which u can go in and edit!

  • @trickthemartyr on the redrum track u have a pattern automation in yellow so you can change friom say pattern a1 to b4 if you want the drums to stop just programm a blank pattern for example b2 etc, the program in the b2 where you want the silence it may not be the right way but rules are to be broken.

  • Yeah I had it armed for recording...in the for the moment I've just been exporting each track from reason into Cubase but its just a headache doing it that way...I really need step by step instructions man..thanx

  • @Kay79andPeachez79 I can do something more indepth, but it'll be awhile, I have a lot of tutorials to do. If you called us, I could help you one on one. I'll give you a free fifteen minute trial. Call 1-866-847-4586, sign up for an account on obedia.com before that, call in, we'll see what we can do to help.

    /brian

  • I know this is an old thread but you seem to know what you're doin..ok so with your setup here , shouldnt I be able to record my Reason track into Cubase by just hitting record button in Cubase? when I hit record everything syncs but wont record anything, why is that?

  • @Kay79andPeachez79 Do you have your cubase track armed for record?

  • great video. what did you use to capture onscreen? and how did you zoom in and highlight sections?

  • @theoriginalbensteele I believe this was done with Camtasia.

  • Is there a way to use Cubase* with Reason* rewire?

  • @nickperri no. Reason has to go into cubase, can't go the toher way around.

  • Thank you. This was very helpful. If not for this video, I would have plunged in Reason Record, which isn't necessary now :)

    Much Thanks,

  • @sonnetg you got it, thanks!

  • i did what you said but cubase won't play reasons sound, I checked the preferences and cubase is set to my mauido sound card. Any help?

  • @NathanJamesRatcliffe I should work - make sure you're opening Cubase, THEN Reason. They have to be in that order to set the Rewire order.

  • @ObediaTutor It finally works, thanks for the tutorial.

  • thanks for this, really helpful

  • how do you rewire more stereo channels, apart from the first two mixer l and r?

  • @b92seven You need to send instruments into the Reason virtual interface's multiple inputs. These then feed out to the multiple rewire ins.

We can show you how to do this, if you would like to give us a call, we have a free new user singup bonus. Call us at 1-866-847-4586. Thanks!

  • this is an old video but it helped alot, cheers

  • you sound like text to speech software

    but thanks for your help

  • @wolfman109h hey, gets the job done, right ? :P

  • @amutimer no. you can't record automation in reason into cubase. You have to record your automation in Reason.

  • mine dosent give any signals on the miditrack? I followed the hole video? u know what that can be?

  • @JStylesMusic make sure your MIDI track is enabled to record. Check your MIDI settings.

  • nvrmind i figured it out,i booted up reason first ;threw everything off...

  • just finished a with the reason rewire into cubase, now when i opened the song,it told me it wasnt able to connect..and when i try to do the rewire now it just says "cannot use reason.close reason and try again.I tried it again with a new project and new rack and same thing...i need help...

  • @sginblack you need to make sure you're launching cubase, then reason.

  • @ObediaTutor The same thing happened to me. Somehow the rewire channels for Reason dissapeared from the Cubase project. And can't get them back. Have tried opening Reason before... in vain. Any helping ideas?

  • great video, worked perfectly..do you know if finale 2009 will rewire into cubase 5.1?finale has some nice strings id like to use

  • @sginblack THanks! Not sure about Finale. Give it a try and let us know!

  • Hey there wonder if u can help me I'm havin trouble...I have cuebase se and reason but for some reason I can't get them to both link together I've stayed up for hours tryin to find out wots going on but I still av ad no luck!!

  • @tophammer123 this is a little to indepth for me to go over in youtube comments. Please send us a message here on youtube and we'll give you some free time with an obedia tutor to get your issue taken care of.

  • Q: The different sounds used from Reason in Cubase, cannot be managed separately in Cubase (volume control for instance... all are levelled equally), since all are controlled through the rewire channel. Is this right or is there a way? Thanks in advance.

  • Q: The different sounds used from Reason in Cubase, cannot be managed separately in Cubase (volume control for instance... all are levelled equally), since all are controlled through the rewire channel. Is this right or is there a way? Thanks in advance.

  • @Smorphine you can only control so much in Cubase from Reason, that's just a limitation of rewire.

  • hey nice one thx but I got a question,

what is the actual advantage that u get by using reason rewired in cubase? cuz I used it stand alone since I got it, now a Friend told me to rewire it with fl studio or cubase, but in rewire slave mod I miss some useful things that only can be used in stand alone .. is it seriously justified by the fact that cubase got ability to save mp3 and stuff?

thanks again mate, hope u answer soon

  • @MagnificentSIG it depend son what you want to do. if you rewire into cubase, you get functionality of cubase that Reason doesn't have. Reason is very powerful by itself, though.

  • @ObediaTutor yes but I think u lose more powerful functions of reason than you gain from cubase. not as with fruity loops, as I just found out, but thats just my opinion. maybe I just cant work with cubase even though its pretty simple 2 use, anyway thanks for your tut and the quick answer.

props and good success to ya, outta switzerland

  • Hi this tutorail is excellent, i have one question, how do i load my dr rex loops as loops and not midi data in cubase so i can slice them ect thanks

  • @dominict1981 Hi, DR Rex loops are native only to Reason. I believe you can use ReCycle to export those loops and make them usable in other DAWs.

  • I get this problem: when I record/play anything in Cubase (being it rewired with Reason) I hear both at the same time (the tracks loaded in Cubase and in Reason). So recording is impossible. Anyone has the same problem?

  • @Smorphine Check your rewire settings, and your monitoring settings. If you can't get it, call us, we'll help you figure it out!

  • @ObediaTutor Thanks, sorted out!

  • Which software application do you use to create your screencasts?

  • @rayl5uk I'm not sure which this was created with, but I (brian) use Snapz ProX on OS X to do mine.

  • this is just what i was looking for. mr Craig you are the man. thanks and the best tutorial so far.

  • Can Reason only be used as a 'virtual synth rack' when rewired to Cubase or can you sync Reason to Cubase, i.e. hit play in Cubase and trigger a Reason song to play at the same time outputting audio into a designated audio channel(s) within Cubase?

For example, I create a song in reason which includes lots of automation of controllers. I only want to utilize Cubase so that I can add a couple of virtual synths into the mix. Is this possible?

  • @Innerrythem You can indeed use just a few synths from Reason in your cubase project. Simply open only the synths you need, and rewire them into your cubase session.

  • @ObediaTutor I Didn't phrase my question well. I would like to write songs in Reason and rewire to Cubase in order to add a vst synth and/or drum machine into the mix. I hit play in Cubase - triggering Reason to play my pre-arranged song and then write a vst synth line via Cubase whilst hearing the Reason song play i.e. I do not want to use Cubase to sequence Reason synths. Really just want to use Cubase to add some extra quality sounds to songs already composed in Reason is this possible?

  • @Innerrythem You can do that, but you're going to have to have Cubase be the primary sound source. Reason doesn't let you rewire other programs into it. You can only rewire Reason into other programs. So, Open cubase, then reason, set up your rewire channels, and you can use the VSTs and synths in cubase to sequence, with cubase controlling reason.

    Hope this helps!

    /brian

  • @ObediaTutor Thanks for the reply. Good, that is what I was hoping.

  • I did this and it worked but i'm getting a disgusting reverb as if both programmes are playing the same sound..... is there any way i can prevent this?????

    Thankss

  • @mkboi hey there, I've sent you a code for some free time with us to work on this issue.

  • i have install reason in my system but it doesnt appear on cubase 5...

    :( sth wrong ?

  • @plasticpunch could be a few different things. We'll send you a code for some free time with an OBEDIA tutor to help you with this!

  • Thanks a lot, this is exactly what I needed to know because all the synths were playing at once.

  • @BullyBeat glad it helps!

  • great info..

    thanks..

  • @187Ahmedi thank you!

  • @gubbakiller Make sure to start cubase, then reason. Also, you can't rewire in Cubase 4 LE, if you have that. Let us know if we can help more.

  • you don't need to delete the master keyboard in reason, just uncheck the instrument and you won't hear 2 sounds at once

  • @OutcastMKD That's right! Thanks for commenting!

  • when i try to open reason it says "check ReWire host engine in use" or something like that

  • Comment removed

  • what if u dont want to use the reason mixer but instead use the cubase ?

how u will reroute the synth racks from reason to the cubase channels?

  • @Emoteya You need to use REWIRE, which takes a little setup. We can help you with that, if you're interested.

  • I've set this up and I can hear the audio from reason in cubase. But why can't I hear audio when I go back into reason? All the sound from cubase cuts out. Is that normal?

  • @BooteeDesigns make sure you've set cubase to not release the audio driver in the background.

  • Ahhh thank you very much Masterkenichi. That fixed it! :)

  • @masterkenichi Good call! Thanks!

  • @BooteeDesigns The sound source will only be Cubase when rewired. Sometimes the sound cuts in/out when you switch applications.

  • thanks man!!

  • thank you very much. It's so cool to use 2 very awesome programs together.

  • @kenneerik It is! Glad to help. Please stay tuned and subscribe for more good tutorials!

  • you didnt show how to record the sounds from reason into cubase

  • @danny5766 To do that, you'll need to render your project to audio. You won't record any audio in Cubase, as you're rewiring into cubase, effectively creating an extension into cubase from Reason. let us know if you need help, we can tell you more.

  • I havent got the Reason Rewire option but just a Reason option and cant get any sound!!!! Is there something in reason i have to do first???

  • @GFACE83 You have to open them in sequence; first open Cubase, then Open Reason; Reason will rewire to cubase automatically. Let us know if we can be of more help!

  • anyway to use cubase sounds in reason? plz help

  • no its impossible. sorry :(

  • if you're talking about the audio sounds that you've recorded. you could always sample them and then put it through some reason sampling.

  • kewl how could i do that? plz thanks

  • well I've only just started getting back into it. I suppose you could export each audio file and then put it into maybe an NN19 sampler in reason... although thats a lot of effort lol

I'm still struggling getting the rewire to work properly myself

  • @oliplaysbass We can help you with Rewire. I'll send you a promo code to get started with OBEDIA.

  • @oliplaysbass We can help you with Rewire. I'll send you a promo code to get started with OBEDIA.

  • @BigStacks18 Nope. Reason won't take sounds from external programs like Cubase. You need to rewire Reason into Cubase to "slave" it to Cubase.

  • Great Video!

  • @Yahwehservant thank you! Please subscribe for more!

  • Excellent tutorial!

  • @KonFoozed Thank you! Please sub to us to get more great stuff!

  • he sounds like everybody loves raymond ... everybody loves reason :)

  • @haaristwof :P Everybody does love reason! :)

  • Good tutorial! Thanks for posting. Going to be using Rewire to add analog vocoder sounds to my Reason projects.

  • @bridsmath Thank you! Glad we could help. Please subscribe for more great stuff!

  • cool...

a question: recording in cubase that way would record wave signal from reason or midi inputs?

thanks and my compliments for the tutorial

  • @anosognosico You can't really record wave audio from reason into Cubase; you'll have to bounce your audio track down to a wave file while rewiring. Let us know if we can help further.

  • Does anyone how to do advanced manual automation to reason synths via cubase and rewire? Is it possible to assign the automation tracks in reason to the corresponding midi tracks in cubase???

  • very nice

  • @jennicf thank you!

  • I got it all working, but i have a serious problem though. I make a midi track with some notes from subtractor, and then another one with notes from Dr. Rex. But when i play the tracks together, i can only hear subtractor. And it happens every time i try... :(

    Anyone knows what to do?

  • @fusion952 We can help with this. I'll send you a code for some free time with an Obedia tutor.

  • i get an error:

    Engine not responding

    please check your rewire host

    can you help me?

  • Great video, but I have a problem. My Redrum doesn't appear to work when I Re-wire. I've tried a few other synths and they are working fine, just not the redrum. Help please.

  • i have a normal pentium 4 with 2.7 ghz processor and 512mb ram..not the the best pc tho...but for some reason...when i rewire cubase and reason...i get a delay when i play something in reason...why`s that happening? is there a way to fix this ? is my pc too slow?

  • One of my computers is 2.8 ghz with 40gig drive & 2gigs of Ram. Tip: Max out your computers ram to 2 Gigs, it will cost you about $40. I guarantee it will run much faster, also get external drive and save ya files to that...

  • Ive got a 1.6 ghz processor and 512 mb ram... Everything is fine with me.

  • When I create a midi track in cubase I don't get any signal from the track. And I can't record it??

    please help

  • every time i go too open reason it says tht the rewire engine is not working check your host HELP!!!!!!

  • ive had the same problem but i first changed the drivers so they matched and then i checked the BUS settings in reason.. you know, if you have several devices connected. i had placed the "midi bus" on top of the "USB bus" i really use.

my midi keyboard have usb and midi.

    so try changing these settings.

    preferences, advanced control

  • thats a fast pc bro ahah

  • im considerin gettng reason. i have cubase, but if i assign a VSTi as an output, and play my midi keyboard i get a nice big latency gap, is it cos my computer isnt amazing? or is it something to do with the way i midi my keyboard into the computer?

  • What sound card do you have?

  • cheers man, im just figuring out how to do this on my home PC, we do it at uni on Macs with ProTools n Reason but i have Cubase LE 4 at home so im just learning all these new cool things to do with it.

    cheers

    JB

  • i love you.

  • Excellent video mate! cheers =D

  • Thanks for the video Fred!

  • Excellent tutorial really helped ... Thanks
