  • I read this is a BIG MISTAKE, IF you have more than 10k in your party when traveling, they are going to get you. They add it up and assume you are spreading it amongst your family in order to avoide reporting.

    Trace, I've been meaning to ask a question. Regarding the $10,000.00 cross-boarder reporting rules: If I have gold american eagles (or another currency-denominated gold/silver coin), can I count these as their legal tender amount towards that $10,000? Thanks!

  • @magichandpuppet Excellent question! I would like to know the same. In addition, what if the coins, for instance gold american eagle coins, have a total face value of $1000.00 (20 X $50) but the intrinsic value is over $10,000.00 (e.g. 20 X current spot price), do I still need to report? Thanks.
