this asshole couldn't find a cheap old car to do the conversion, naaa he had to destroy an historic beautyfull car that belongs in a museum or a collection
Electric vehicles were actually around in the 1800's. Before the combustion engine automobiles became popular. The elite decided there was more money to be made in combustion vehicles.
the only type of that that would be that cool as an EV would probably be some V8 musclecars with a strenghtened chassis and lighter (maybe plastic) bodypanels.
the lead acid battery does not last for 2,000 charges like another viewer posted. they last around 400 charge cycles before needing replacement. A battery company just revealed its lead carbon battery based on lead acid batteries yet use carbon vs all lead plates, allowing it to survive over 2,000 cycles. public selling of them has no began yet though
Good news you will get new Nanotech battery A123 systems more powerful than Lithium-ion Powered ! The Nanotech battery quick charged in 5 mins get full , you will get about 450 miles range
Folks, over half the cars on the road should be EV's. We've been given the idea that they don't have enough range (so we're told). BUT YOU FILL UP EVERY TIME YOU"RE HOME! Think about how much time your car sits at home or even at work. In todays climate, most employers would trip over themselves to accommodate an electric car. I converted one of my own and I drive it back and forth to work every day. I have a 30 mpg bonneville that I drive when I need to go on long trips.
Good old lead acid batteries, use to charge them while in the submarine service. They have a lot of advantages since they are cheep, have over 2000 life cycles, and are easy to maintain. The down side is keeping up with the water levels, charges and charging equipment. Oh did I mention the danger of hydrogen gas Yikes... If I were to build an EV I believe a lead acid battery would be my choice too. If we were to start relying on EV's the price of lead and copper would go sky high.
You know, this isn't new. I don't know why news companies ar going crazy over it. Plus, it's not really too hard to do from what I understand, so they really shouldn't be making emphasis on him being a aerospace engineer. Look up Gav's electric conversion. He did it in his garage with very little automotive experience.
It's true that this isn't that hard to do, but the guy did say that. Most people have no idea that this is an option, so that makes it interesting for viewers. Just because it isn't new doesn't mean it shouldn't be a huge story.
In fact, I think local media should make a habit of covering locals who make these cars. You're right that they should make clear it's easy, but it's also very cool to hear about.
50 miles a charge and a $8000 conversion minus the motor? Not bad at all. I wouldn't count on that 50 mile range lasting too long, though. Batteries suck.
Tesla says that their batteries still have 70% of their initial stage after 5 years. Thats not nice, but does not make them suck, since they have many advantages over other energy storage.
I wonder when someone is going to say something stupid about charging the car from a condo? lol, love the Inwheel design more. though this is pretty cool
One day i am going to build a electric car.. lithium ion batteries are the better way to go..

The Tesla also costs 100,000. Just buy a Ferrari. If you want an electric car, do what this guy did.

ha, you think these golf cart batteries will last like Tesla NIMH batteries? There's a reason Tesla cars cost as many as a fleet of these cars.
I think as long as you factor in replacing batteries periodically, you still can do fine (save money) with golf cart style batteries.
Of course, anyone inventing better batteries will make a fortune. I wonder if I could buy just the battery to a Chevy Volt?

$6,500 that's got to be the cheapest conversion I've seen so far.
Unless you know otherwise ?
