I love Seinfeld, South Park etc. However, having said that lately US is taking way too many shows from the UK. too. eg. The office, Skins, Shameless etc. It works both ways. @notat22 that show sucks, its filmed in like an abandoned warehouse or something and the products/companies they present are lame so the dragons rarely ever buy into any of them. Shark Tank is much more professional and entertaining, and the products/companies more creative and interesting.

@notat22 I can see advantages to both approaches. But with knowing the background, most people will tend to care more about what they're watching due to identifying more with the "main character". Movies almost always use this technique to great success. It can backfire though if the backstory isn't compelling or too much time is devoted to the telling; in this case only 90 seconds.
