  • This game possibly cost FSU the national championship that year. It also could have motivated Florida State to win 10 straight games.

    That Clemson team was really good, I remember they manhandled West Virginia in the Gator Bowl

  • @SFFOOL76 Go to remember, this FSU team wen on and whipped #1 and undefeated Miami 24-10 later on in that 1989 season (The Canes only loss that year). Miami won the national championship that year. That shows you how good Clemson was during those years. Clemson should have been undefeated or had no more than 1 loss as they were defeated inexplicably by Duke and Georgia Tech.

    Clemson's loss to Duke in 1989 looks bad today; however, that Blue Devils team had Steve Spurrier at the helm. I believe this was the last time that Duke won the ACC title, which they shared with Virginia. For FSU, they fielded a young team rather than the junior and senior laden squads of 1987 and 1988. If I'm not mistaken, it was Brett Favre who quarterbacked Southern Mississippi to a victory over the Seminoles in '89.

  • @SFFOOL76 Remember the West Virginia game. The previous year, Clemson beat Oklahoma in the then Citrus Bowl. Clemson should have beaten FSU the previous year. The Tigers outplayed the Seminoles that game, but as you know, lost the game essentially on that trick fumble rooskie play. What could have been...
