  • this is stupid, video should be called how to connect sata drive to computer externally, not how to connect drive without enclosure, you still need some device.question is how to connect staright to usb port?

  • 1 TB Files on your 1 TB Hard Drive.

Then scan it using Anti Virus.

    F*ck!...

  • This is basically a different shaped enclosure...

  • This would be actualy usefull for me, because I repair computers for a lot of people, and sometimes I come home with their hdd to try to recover data. So instead of power off the PC, remove case cover, and plug extra SATA cable, and risk my PC configuration, because some hdds just mess my PC... This is a great alternative! :)

  • Why a need for an Enclosure since there are more than one sata connectors on mb

    ?

  • @lockergnome you did this video on my birthday :)

  • How is that not an enclosure? I just took the case off my enclosure and I can use the same component to make an external DVD drive.

  • hard drive toaster lol.

  • Enclosure is cheaper than a HD dock. 1/2 the price.

Benifit of the dock is some you can use 2.5" HD's as well, plus it's got quick plug and play if you're often swapping Hard Drive's.

  • I fabricated a bracket and turned an unused dvd bay into an enclosure that can hold 2 drives.

  • I put my sata drive into a toaster and turned it on. It wont work. It will only turn black. Help.

  • Who coughed? xD

  • Dude ur like Awesome! Ur like computer wizard?

  • how much was it?

  • i bought that, never worked...

  • that's cool. it's kinda like an 8-track player, lol.

  • lol. he is using microsoft. not a mac .

  • Idiot... he said he is using VNWare...

You can run different OS while in another..

  • He said VMFusion,

  • lol, one year today,

    YOU THINK IT*S FATE?!

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah SATA toaster but this should have been a rack, to mount 4 drives or something, quad storage sounds nice...

  • Hello bent IDE pins.....

  • Haha, I was thinking the same thing.

  • ur a tool.......................

  • thinkgeekdotcom for like $40

  • I just use 7200rpm 2.5 inch drives and run from the USB only. Another choice if you have multiple 3.5 inch drives laying around, just buy a cheap external adapter and take it apart and just slide the harddrives in and out as you please.

  • 1TB USB Drive is now here lol.

  • @Simonraical two years later and now it's 3 TB lol

  • My side of my case comes off after flipping up 2 tabs

Its just the glass panel that locks in place

And its got this on the inside because you slide it in and it plugs itself in and locks itself in place

So no need for this ^_^

  • Wait..

    How much did this cost??

  • This is like the coolest thing ever.

  • i rather spent 10 dollars to buy the sata to usb adapter on ebay which is chipper...and less space..

  • hard drive toaster to wipe the hard drive turn toaster to high

  • More like a Super NES lol remember the eject button?

  • I see a couple a recommendations for the Thermaltake one on the front page so I'll check it out cause I could use one these.

  • CHRIS!!! Any real tech geek would have shown us the computer screen. Come on you are reviewing a product and you provided no screen shots. I love your videos stream but there are a few basic things that you dont do that drive me nuts like this.

  • the termaltake one is better

  • very cool device.

  • ooops - one ebay type- ide to sata

it is like a case without the case

  • go to ebay type in external hard drive - you will see the hard drive case - you will also see a little thingy that plugs into an ide and sata - you should not have to pay much more than $12.00 - i have one for ide and am pretty sure they come for sata - it is about 3 inches by one inch - very, very clunky but if you need to get something off a hard drive and you don't want to have to slave it and open your case - by tilting it i got data off a dead drive that started spinning

  • Ok, that might as well be an enclosure...just put a lid on it...

  • DONT GET THIS

    get the Thermaltake one!

    so much better

  • watching chris is like watching a shoping channel now :(

  • lol ya

    but its cuz he's rich

  • he pronounces SATA sat-dah but pronounces DATA date-dah instead of dat-dah

  • do they come in Firewire for my Mac Pro?

  • How genius in that thing? I want one, but im not in the us and we have different voltages and so on.. Aaaargh.. I want it!

  • dont like how chris does his videos now. it seems to me that all he does it advertise for products and thinkgeek.

chris, i miss your old youtubing style..

  • Yeah, chris' videos are a little poor now........

  • All of these were shot around GnomeDex, check the video date. He bought allot of stuff for the conference, it seems. Which is why he's reviewing stuff right now.

  • cool, i HAVE to get one. Great find chris

  • that nature vs. nurture debate is really interesting. There is no definite answer if you are made who you are today by nature or by nurture. It's a 50/50 thing; well that's what I hear some experts say.

  • this one is called NexStar Hard Drive Dock

  • My PC has a SATA connector in the back so I don't need this machine! Just plug the HDD directly to the PC and Voila! :)

  • These things have been on a market some time now. I see no practical use for that other then using it for mass shredding of old SATA drives.Other then that I think its not that smart having bunch of internal drives on your desktop (static electricity)

  • does it have a fan?

  • I don't think so.
