You can install any USB peripherals, like keyboards, mice, card readers etc. If drivers are present, you can install it. Apple is not that limiting. "Small screens?" say hello to the 27 inch iMac.
Omg people are very retarded stop fighting about what phone is better I prefer both phone I think they're cool but no I won't buy them iPhones running on a shitty network and droid runs on one more xpensive neither droid nor iPhones
imho....thats not "real" multitasking...and the OS looks ugly i got a palm pre and i love the cards multutasking feature...much better than androids multitasking...thats of course my opinion
Currently testing the verizon droid while being a pre user for the last 4 months. The card multitasking is nifty and the gui is prettier. But the Pre is slow to respond to touch commands, this is probably it's largest disadvantage for me at this time.
The droid on the other hand is very snappy, better browsing and has more apps.
It's not miss-information. Android is designed differently from Windows because the memory restrictions of mobile devices. Going into the details of how it works will take too long, but basically, the Android memory management is designed to give the user a feeling that all of their apps are running. The apps could or could not be running on the 6 recent tasks, but that shouldn't matter much.
It is misinformation to claim that they are running, since they are not. The program is stored in memory if the memory is not needed for other applications, but it has been terminated or paused. It doesn't matter that they can be quickly started because they are still stored in memory.
While that is (kind of) true, that has nothing to do with this. Topic is that he claims that the long-hold-home-button takes you to running applications, which is not the case.
Well, no, even if apps mostly don't "run" in the background on the android they have a "running" state, with an "instancebundle" saved with information required to get the program back up to the previous state in case it needs to be unloaded from memory. The difference between a paused application and a stopped one is small, but still clear for both the developer and the user.
ok guys i have a question i used windows mobile along time ago and had a bad experience with it. for the fact it had multitasking and it never ended task on anything. ok android is google of course and it has multitasking. is it the same as windows mobile? does apps always stay open and makes the phone slow? if so then android is just another windows mobile
while, if you have multi processes running in the background, of course its gonna make the cpu slower. But, what android does is that it makes the application to take less of the cpu memory which is not what windows does..windows applications don't do that, they run in big cpu memory and therefore make the computer/mobile device slower...
ok thank you. i was worried about that but overall it looks like android is better then WM which i was hoping it was. thanks man now ill just go ahead and get the mytouch 3g
In Android you never close an application. When you run out of memory, Android will save the state of the oldest, inactive application and close. When reopening the application, you will continue where you left it.
Im not sure whether its open or recent applications, but for you as a user, the only difference would be the time Android use to reopen the application.
Though if anyone that actually own an Android phone could confirm that, that would be great.
@ismaeldeltoro But the New Iphone now can't MULTITASK. It freezes the other app . So if your on Skype and go to the Web Browser. It puts you offline Cause your on another APP. ><
@MicroHelper of course it multitasks. the native applications do. and it is great. the third applications from app store are starting to incorporate multitasking on their apps slowly. we will just have to wait for the 200k apps to update to enable multitasking. because iPhone os wont let multitasking the right way.
honestly, i cannot stand this function! it would be alright if you could choose to close apps such as the browser, but, because you can't, it slows the phone and drains the battery. there have been days where my phone can't make it through a 7 hour day because maps and browser have been running. also, big apps like the browser use home screen resources, so when you press the home button, you have to wait up to 30 seconds for the home screen to load. this is a HUGE flaw with the g1, but oh well.
There are applications in the marketplace to close running processes, though I usually find myself powering the phone off/on several times a day for the exact same thing.
I think having the ability to long press running tasks and close them would be very useful and sensible!
Install PowerManager and turn off the features what you dont use. My mobile lasts usually several day (up to a week) with normal use but having all the crap I dont use turned off.

Looks nice, but something I noticed that may or not be the case that I don't like is that it looks like some on screen controls were selectable only using the keyboard. For instance, when opening up the copy and paste context menus, he initiated the menu using the touch screen, but selected the menu items using his keyboard. I don't know, I may be wrong and he may have explained it - I viewed this video without audio.
Yes, I stated that I watched this without audio. And I said that I may or may not be right about my assumption. I did not go bashing the phone based on my assumption. So my comment to you is...Please, you knew what I based my comment on...and you decided to bash me?
Come on now, so you are saying that every youtube comment is informed? Give me a break. You posted a comment to try to make me look like the bad guy, informed that I watched the video without audio. I pointed out what I saw, expected a comment that would clarifie what I didn't hear, and I got it from Ganja.
I actually have had my G1 phone since day 1 and still think it's awesome aside from its relatively small internal phone storage. That is its biggest limitation. Aside from that, the phone runs smoothly and has awesome 3g connectivity and signal strength. People say that it's ugly, but I actually get a lot of comments about my phone. So go ahead nex11, continue your "I'm better than you because I heard the audio" rant if it makes you feel that much better about your pathetic life.

Good point. It all depends on the long-press interval i guess. If it isn't too long, it's still a very comfortable option. * and 1 would be totally annoying, especially on devices without a keyboard. A dedicated hardware app-switching button would be cool.
I have WM6 on my T-Mo Wing, they didn't make it any easier. I had to get a third party "switcher" that acts like Alt-Tab on your PC. Then I had to map that program to a hardware button. Essentially the same as here, but the fact that I had to figure it out myself was lame.
And yet still my Android tablet is unable to use office and youtube at the same time.
