  • And yet still my Android tablet is unable to use office and youtube at the same time.

    What the fuck, seriously?

  • See? Apple is claiming Google is ripping iOS off but they seem to deny they are ripping off Android too.

  • This really makes Android Cooler because we can run a lot of apps at the same time.

  • @VondaFononono how many apps would you like to see running and what apps do you want?

  • Can any one tell me how to close apps on google g1??Please help me these apps are using a lot of battery........

  • Apple is (mostly) for elitist morons.

As a geek I can get my PC to do what I want. If I need Ram I buy it. If I want a card reader I install it.

Apple sells "experiences"... yeah, "up yours".

I buy computers and install programs... please talk straight english.

Apple is loved my the same mongoloids that used to call me a nerd.

They hover over their tiny screens whilst I laugh watching them from my 24" ergonomic keyboard, laser mouse, and Intel Core processor with 1Tb DSL.

  • @cgonzalezdelhoyo haha. your a nerd.

  • @cgonzalezdelhoyo Looks like you know nothing about Macs.

You can install any USB peripherals, like keyboards, mice, card readers etc. If drivers are present, you can install it. Apple is not that limiting. "Small screens?" say hello to the 27 inch iMac.

  • Geez the iphone took a long time to catch up with android only now do they have multitasking

  • And other reason people don't fight for the phone they fight about which phone has the best network duhhh so stupid and retarded X$

  • Omg people are very retarded stop fighting about what phone is better I prefer both phone I think they're cool but no I won't buy them iPhones running on a shitty network and droid runs on one more xpensive neither droid nor iPhones

  • my god. stop this discussions about iphone or android. just buy what you like more. both are good and both can do good and bad things

  • Thanks to this video I finally know how to switch running apps without going to the home screen, long-press the home-button.

  • @jonVaillant

    lol me too

  • N900 has the best multitasking

  • @powerkiller1994

    word.

  • this is called "push notification" its not multitasking

  • @gselsidi

They run in the background, thats why the music apps play music in the background.

OR that i dont loose connection to my SSH.

While going into my webbrowser to remember what command i needed, if your rusty :)

  • imho....thats not "real" multitasking...and the OS looks ugly i got a palm pre and i love the cards multutasking feature...much better than androids multitasking...thats of course my opinion

  • Currently testing the verizon droid while being a pre user for the last 4 months. The card multitasking is nifty and the gui is prettier. But the Pre is slow to respond to touch commands, this is probably it's largest disadvantage for me at this time.

The droid on the other hand is very snappy, better browsing and has more apps.

  • very nice!!!!

  • Impressive :3

I might want to get one of these.

  • WTF?! That window doesn't show running applications, it shows last used applications. Also, only shows the last 6 ones. This is miss-information.

  • Yeah, it is the last 6 apps.

Besides that you get kicked back to your homescreen before you even get to choose which app to open.

  • Not when using the long-hold on the home-button.

  • I get kicked back to the homescreen and then the last apps show. I've got a Hero btw.

  • Wow, that is weird. I don't get why they would do that, but as you say, it's not that way on the Dream. Strange design choice. :S

  • It's not miss-information. Android is designed differently from Windows because the memory restrictions of mobile devices. Going into the details of how it works will take too long, but basically, the Android memory management is designed to give the user a feeling that all of their apps are running. The apps could or could not be running on the 6 recent tasks, but that shouldn't matter much.

  • It is misinformation to claim that they are running, since they are not. The program is stored in memory if the memory is not needed for other applications, but it has been terminated or paused. It doesn't matter that they can be quickly started because they are still stored in memory.

  • If the application has nothing to do, it will be stored in memory and "paused".

When a page is loading or an application is doing something, it will run in the background while you do something else with your phone.

    Multitasking, but only if necessary.

  • While that is (kind of) true, that has nothing to do with this. Topic is that he claims that the long-hold-home-button takes you to running applications, which is not the case.

  • This is the way all mobile multitasking works.

If not, they would be terribly slow, constantly.

  • Well, no, even if apps mostly don't "run" in the background on the android they have a "running" state, with an "instancebundle" saved with information required to get the program back up to the previous state in case it needs to be unloaded from memory. The difference between a paused application and a stopped one is small, but still clear for both the developer and the user.

  • Android Rulez!!!!

  • ok guys i have a question i used windows mobile along time ago and had a bad experience with it. for the fact it had multitasking and it never ended task on anything. ok android is google of course and it has multitasking. is it the same as windows mobile? does apps always stay open and makes the phone slow? if so then android is just another windows mobile

  • while, if you have multi processes running in the background, of course its gonna make the cpu slower. But, what android does is that it makes the application to take less of the cpu memory which is not what windows does..windows applications don't do that, they run in big cpu memory and therefore make the computer/mobile device slower...

  • ok thank you. i was worried about that but overall it looks like android is better then WM which i was hoping it was. thanks man now ill just go ahead and get the mytouch 3g

  • yeah, np

  • Consider me on the Android ship.

    Android-Land, here I come!

  • UREL :L:L

    its URL lol

  • is it for at&t

  • Oh, is it not a list of OPEN apps but RECENT apps?!

  • In Android you never close an application. When you run out of memory, Android will save the state of the oldest, inactive application and close. When reopening the application, you will continue where you left it.

Im not sure whether its open or recent applications, but for you as a user, the only difference would be the time Android use to reopen the application.

Though if anyone that actually own an Android phone could confirm that, that would be great.

  • Thanks for explaining! I did some more research and found task managers on the Android Market so that was helpful!

  • finally i found video aboit multitasking on android :D

  • Yeah, all I wanted to know was if I can switch between open apps, now finally found the video!

  • OMG Android kicks iphones ass...

    1. mulitple apps running

    2. COPY & PASTE

  • Just like Symbian! Now Symbian is open source too!

  • @s5182865 iPhone now has beautiful multitasking UI.

Android has cheap COPY & PASTE compared to iPhone's fab one.

  • @ismaeldeltoro But the New Iphone now can't MULTITASK. It freezes the other app . So if your on Skype and go to the Web Browser. It puts you offline Cause your on another APP. ><

  • @MicroHelper of course it multitasks. the native applications do. and it is great. the third applications from app store are starting to incorporate multitasking on their apps slowly. we will just have to wait for the 200k apps to update to enable multitasking. because iPhone os wont let multitasking the right way.

  • @ismaeldeltoro What? The iPhone one isn't even multitasking, it's just suspending to ram.

  • cool

my ucle is going to send me an unlocked g1 from germany i cant waitt

    i live in dubai

by the way is android market availble on unlocked phones

  • android market is avaliable on unlocked phones

  • powermanager is a life saver!

  • honestly, i cannot stand this function! it would be alright if you could choose to close apps such as the browser, but, because you can't, it slows the phone and drains the battery. there have been days where my phone can't make it through a 7 hour day because maps and browser have been running. also, big apps like the browser use home screen resources, so when you press the home button, you have to wait up to 30 seconds for the home screen to load. this is a HUGE flaw with the g1, but oh well.

  • There are applications in the marketplace to close running processes, though I usually find myself powering the phone off/on several times a day for the exact same thing.

I think having the ability to long press running tasks and close them would be very useful and sensible!

  • Install PowerManager and turn off the features what you dont use. My mobile lasts usually several day (up to a week) with normal use but having all the crap I dont use turned off.

  • Google revolution is coming to town. There is more internet revolution you need to know. Fantastic news here internetrevolutionproject(dot)com.

  • Isnt this just last used app? According to the manual it is..

  • that status bar thing is probably the best innovative idea for a phone i have ever seen :3

  • pardon my ignorance but is there anything new in this ? my N95 8GB does it i browse web, listen to songs , chat in ebuddy where my mobitubia app id downloading a video.

  • is the software of your N95 8GB (yeah thats right, not 2GB... >.> ) opensource? does it has that many developers?

  • It has symbian OS which is a shared source and has a vast community of developers since 10 years and was brain child of companies like Nokia,Erricson,Motorola, panasonic, samsung etc. Adobe is going to develop flash full version for Android as well as Symbian. Minimum of 60% of phone worldwide use Symbian.

  • yeah but ebuddy sucks

  • wow

  • i like

  • I just got mine today (they were only just released in the UK - BOOOOO!!) and it's completely awesome. I'm still learning how to use it but it's so good so far, i've never been so excited about a new toy.

Now I need to find some applications to develop for it and become rich. Anyone fancy going in 50-50, i'm looking for ideas? :)

  • the uk is always light years ahead of canada..we'll probably get it 2020..lol

  • ya im a mediocre programmer, lookin for a good android project to really dive in and learn more about android.

I am still learning but I can pretty much do anything in the examples now... switch screens, basic math calculations and string manipulation... etc. Hit me up --

    infotechsailor @ g m 4! l . c0m

  • Nicely done.

  • I <3 U ANDROID!!!! :3 so cool!

  • IN THE LONG RUN, THE G1 IS GONNA KILL THE iPHONE

  • can't agree more. i am using an iphone now and i can see how much an open source o.s. like android have over iphone

  • Loving the instant message notifications.

  • lol I can just imagine what those pics will really will look like, Android should have some sort of 18+year safe gaurd for pics

  • FINALLY... Now kick on the nuts of the ASSHOLES at apple :-D...

.. those bastards were acting tough not giving us the most basic "COPY-PASTE".. and now Google has just BITCH-SLAPPED them :-D..

ooohh.. I can see apple fan "boys" weeping :-D..

  • they didn't say it was effortless to teach you how to use it

  • Seems straightforward to me.

At least Android actually has a clipboard haha.

  • Will it be possible to port Android on an x86-based platform such as a mobile-ITX or the COM Express boards?I want to build my own phone for some specialized purposes.

  • Android already runs natively on x86 through the SDK, *and* it's open source, so you should at least be able to port it on your own.

  • OK.Will try out.

  • OMG I am offended by the corp. misuse of the word "ping" me on IM.

  • woooow that was easy....

I hope this platform support multiple languages such as Arabic..

I'm planning to get one when it released...

thank you very much for those interesting videos

  • Sony erricson eh..

  • Looks good, but I'll wait till an android phone has a real headphone port...

  • Looks nice, but something I noticed that may or not be the case that I don't like is that it looks like some on screen controls were selectable only using the keyboard. For instance, when opening up the copy and paste context menus, he initiated the menu using the touch screen, but selected the menu items using his keyboard. I don't know, I may be wrong and he may have explained it - I viewed this video without audio.

  • All actions, with the exception of switching between apps, can be done from the keyboard and the touch screen.

  • Please, you watched this without audio... and you commented?

  • Yes, I stated that I watched this without audio. And I said that I may or may not be right about my assumption. I did not go bashing the phone based on my assumption. So my comment to you is...Please, you knew what I based my comment on...and you decided to bash me?

  • Absolutely.

  • You are absolutely an idiot then.

  • I would disagree.

One can not make an informed comment about a video without hearing it. You commented without hearing it. You made an uninformed comment.

  • Come on now, so you are saying that every youtube comment is informed? Give me a break. You posted a comment to try to make me look like the bad guy, informed that I watched the video without audio. You deserve a cookie. I'll let your mom know. I made a comment based on what I saw visually, pointing out that I may have been wrong. I never said bashed the phone or said that phone sucks. I pointed out what I saw, expected a comment that would clarifie what I didn't hear, and I got it from Ganja.

  • I actually have had my G1 phone since day 1 and still think it's awesome aside from its relatively small internal phone storage. That is its biggest limitation. Aside from that, the phone runs smoothly and has awesome 3g connectivity and signal strength. People say that it's ugly, but I actually get a lot of comments about my phone. So go ahead nex11, continue your "I'm better than you because I heard the audio" rant if it makes you feel that much better about your pathetic life.

  • Could you at least explain why you watched it without audio? Maybe that would help with clarifying why you came across as an idiot.

  • Because your sister was riding my cock, so I had to take off my headphones.

Seriously dumb ass, this BS is so old. I don't know why you had to put your two cents in to make yourself feel that much better and smarter. Congratulations, you have earned the "I want attention" award. Your parents would want to hear about such a wonderful news.

One last thing. Could you at least explain why you responded to such an old comment? Maybe that would help with clarifying why you came across as an idiot.

  • Actually, I agree with amphonev. The idiot looks like you Abdiso, for resurrecting a clearly ended conversation.

What he did was he asked a question in which he received a valid response. Yes, he clearly did not listen to the video's audio, but he stated it. He did nothing to bash the phone, so get off your not-so-high horse already. Geez. It feels like only kids like you try to pick fights over nothing.

And quit trolling around and get a life.

  • Lol , did I state my argument over the bashing on the phone? Nope, so GTFO. He posted a retarded post simple as, spin it how you want.

I'm sorry Amp, I was compelled to flame a idiotic post, couldn't help myself. :/

  • I'm not sure about the long-pressing, it would be nice to swap between apps like you do on most OS, Alt-Tab. Maybe this could be implemented using * and 1 for example?

For devices with an Alt and a Tab, this would be much better.

  • Good point. It all depends on the long-press interval i guess. If it isn't too long, it's still a very comfortable option. * and 1 would be totally annoying, especially on devices without a keyboard. A dedicated hardware app-switching button would be cool.

  • Very good point.

  • sweet. Doing things like that in WM 5 was an awful pain. I don't know about WM 6, but this one looks awesum.

  • I have WM6 on my T-Mo Wing, they didn't make it any easier. I had to get a third party "switcher" that acts like Alt-Tab on your PC. Then I had to map that program to a hardware button. Essentially the same as here, but the fact that I had to figure it out myself was lame.

  • nice
