I think you'd get the same result for this test if you used copper; most of the energy is being transferred through the ring into the relatively soft wood. Try this on a steel block and I bet you get a different result.
I have a tungsten wedding band, and it's awsome, just be aware that there's no reason to pay more than $10 - $20 for one. Look on Amazon, they're really cheap. Most jewlers mark these things up to 10x or 20x their true price!
tungsten is harder then titanium btw ... titanium is regarded as one of the hardest " LIGHTEST " metals ever created tungsten is just to heavy but it density shows that not only is it heavy but extremely well .. i think u got the point in this video
You know, I would imagine that hitting your ring with a sledgehammer voids the warranty....
Improper use of anything voids a warranty, they only apply when you use it properly. If I get a 3 year warranty on an XBox and smash it with a pickaxe, I'm not getting a replacement because that isn't the intended use.
My point: put it on something solid and standing on the outside and smash it with the sledgehammer. If it breaks, its probably too bad :3.
You set the wood on grass, which absorbs the shock.
If you want to break the ring, it's pretty easy. Stand it up sideways on a solid foundation like concrete, and then return to Mr. Sledgehammer. It'll shatter into pieces rather than bend.
@supruzr Yeah, its like the strongest metal, but its not very flexible. I think they make amputation equipments with it cause it can easily cut through bone.
Well, first of all, I'm sure this is a promo for that website..because you don't need to go there for tungsten rings (and he keeps repeating the url)...but secondly, obviously it won't break as it's on grass. Tungsten is very strong...so hard that it's actually brittle. If there is any line on the tungsten (like a design or bezel), and you hit it with a hammer, it will shatter.
You don't necessarily need more powerful tools , just a more solid foundation. The wood absourbs the shock. Just for shits and giggles I took one of my tungsten rings and placed it on a anvil. Just a few effortless wacks with a regular carpenters hammer and the ring shattered into a million pieces. But then again to agree with you , most of the tests they put them through is to simulate normal wear. What wouldn't get damaged between a hammer and an anvil LOL.
Like others said, placing the ring on a piece of wood and hitting it with a sledgehammer is the same thing as putting it on a sledgehammer and hitting it with a piece of wood. This isn't "tungsten ring vs. sledgehammer", it's "tungsten ring vs. wood."
Nothing is indestructable, it may be hard, but it is brittle, one hit between two hard objects and it will shatter. Or use a file with a hardness above 8 and it will scratch it.
hows about puttin it on say, a cast iron surface. Instead of a soft surface, like wood, that gives way to the metal. You coulda done that with a titanium or possibly a silver ring with the same outcome. Gold woulda been destroyed tho. Tungsten is very strong, but not indestructable.
yeah that wood really doesnt absorb the impact.. how bout you turn the ring sideways and hammer it on concrete... tungsten is tough and like concrete its not flexible... a small hammer would be suffice to do the job
If you want to break it, stand it at 90º to how it was in this vid and hit it again, the thing will shatter easily. Like glass - very VERY hard, yet also extremely brittle.
HAHA OK the first thing that came up was the UNcyclopedia, and if you read it all they make up a bunch of crap. AND thats the only website i saw that said diamond is a metal.
Is this real?? If it is, i'm definitely getting it. So it doesn't make any kind of scratches? I recently bought a ring for my bf, but the color is already fading out.
Use an anvil and then show us. There's too much give between the soft wood, grass, and ground. It's like a vehicle suspention.

You should have used an anvil.

lay it on end and put it on concrete then we might see some action
bluehazzy 6 months ago
cute, but try that again and place the ring up on it's end and put the board on pavement, not soil that will absorb the shock.

Try dropping it on a hard surface......BREAK! Tungsten is VERY BRITTLE and can easily break from a hammer.....on a hard surface!

take it off the wood and put the ring on a harder surface

This seems like an add tungsten rings break easy if ur trying to break it...
Bestel1090 9 months ago
tungsten is really tough but if you hit it hard enough it will break....your ring would have broke it you placed it upright as opposed to flat.
BastermaBreath420 10 months ago
try putting it between the sledgehammer and a harder surface than wood like steel or rock. and hit more than once
0001Stealth 10 months ago
Yup!, gee I wonder if this is an add!, you want to impress, use an anvil under it!

might as well put it on a metal board and hit it with a wooden hammer, thats all you did here

Use something hard like concrete or metal instead of wood and see if it damages it or not.

Reasons why it didn't break:
You set it flat.
You set it on wood, which absorbs the shock.
You set the wood on grass, which absorbs the shock.

you can break a tungsten ring by taking a vice grip and placing pressure on it.
You apply the pressure in a "closing" direction, as if you wanted to shape the inner circle into an oval.
If these guys had placed the ring sitting up right , they could have broken it.
