  • I broke mine right under my knuckle august 2 playing football , i had it in a splint for about a month , now I think I just re-broke it or jammed it really bad today playing basketball

  • happened me 1½ years ago. still damn sore...

  • this happened to me today

  • Thanks for posting this video Sir, maybe you can help me out, I got the mallet finger too, and I had to undergo surgery and got a safety pin placed in, however, I just had it removed after 6 weeks of using it, and the thing that worries me is that my finger is really swollen and red, and it is increasingly swelling, the doctor tells me it is all right and normal to have the finger swollen for several days, but it feels really painful and growing? what do I do? I really appreciate your comments

  • @rfd73 That never happened to my finger after they took out the pins. it was tender and looked a bit deformed but no pain and increased swelling...bone healed ALMOST perfect. I remember I did therapy once a week. That helped me get power back in my grip and the more I did it the less deformed the finger looked. Good Luck!

  • 00:6 wow

  • this injury has nothing to do with the bone unless the tendon ripped a piece of your bone with it.... else it just takes time for the tendon to grow again and attach itself to your bone, so it needs to stay in 1 position for a long time (8 weeks) no bending that finger at all... just put it in a splint and leave it be for 8 weeks, always keep it straight...

  • Hi I got my mallet finger in rugby its has been 3 weeks now so what did you do think I must do splinting for 6-8 WEEKS or surgery ??? sorry man i know you are not a docter but i want to ask somebody that had a mallet finger .. what did you do surgery or splinting ?? and was it helpfull ?? and can you now stil bend your finger ?? please reply .

  • what should i do if i had this mallet finger for 3 years already? should i just leave it be since it might be useless to fix or shoulc i get surgery later on

  • @garljr Well ask your Doctor. But Im not a big fan of surgery and going under anesthesia. So if you're ok with it after 3 years meaning, the bone healed on its on in a slightly deformed manner but you have adapted to it, then in my opinion, leave it be.

  • @garljr i hear yah i have a mallet finger its on my thimb and its been 2 years alost 3 for mei have tryed splinting it but nothing happend so i might get surgery D:

  • @garljr it won't heal anymore, injury is too old, you need surgery to fix now

  • 2 years ago, I injured my index finger when I drove it down on the pavement floor going for a loose ball while playing basketball. I don't remember if I hyper extended it or not, or what the finger looked like after.

It's healed now though, but the doctor didn't told me what was the name of the injury or whatever.

I know that you are not a doctor, but what chance would you give that I had a mallet finger injury?

  • @DwyaneWadeCounty If the finger bent in toward your palm at the time of the hit then probably mallet finger. Just look at it from the side and see if it hangs like a goose neck (thats mallet finger break) easy to tell if you compare with your healthy finger on your other hand. You can see in my vid how the tipo of my finger hand down also to get an idea what I mean.

  • @DwyaneWadeCounty same kinda thing happend to me but a football landed and smashed my thumb its been 2 years for me and im going back tot he doctors cuzz the splint didint work last year so i might get surgery on it this summer D: im not a doctor but the way u discribed how u smashed it is kinda like mine its probaly a mallet finger.

  • Hi, can i ask what your finger is like now? after what im guessing is over a year passed the initial injury?

  • @polypropz Arthritis the first 3 months and then it gets betters as time passes and continued use and therapy at home. Today it is just a little bit sore in the morning. Nothing major but I do not get full flexion yet.

  • im prob gunna have the same thing, except it was fronm basketball, it was from using a table saw it cutt my finger in two :s

  • Hey man I had the same thing happen to me tonight, how did it turn out for you? Require surgery? I went got xrays and stuff, its in a splint straight.

  • @TYRELGREGG Xrays showed I broke my finger. I had to go to a hand specialist. They had to put 2 pins to secure it back in place for 6 weeks. My finger is still a little bent but it has almost full range of motion and I can still play ball.

  • @suprasiix wow this happened to me to when i was playing ball and the ball smacked into my finger tip, and now its been bent for over a year.. so can i still just use a splint or do i have to get surgery? also did it hurt that they stick needles/wires through your body? i really dont want surgery

  • @llHyRaXll Honestly go get it xray'd. Now if its been broke that long they will probably say to "fuse it." or just leave it be. My Doc told me these type of mallet breaks need to be fixed with in 3-4 weeks before the bone starts to heal it self in a deformed manor causing major arthritis in the future. BTW the pins didnt hurt because I was knocked out from anesthesia. Taking them out hurt a bit. Hopefully ur ok. Good Luck.

  • @suprasiix alrght thats sucks that the docs tells us to leave it how it is, cuz i prefer to have my finger be striaght, not crooked... yeah il get it xrayed then.. thank you!
