There is so much pride in the boys face and it seems to me that his father is also his hero - as mine was when my dad served in the Air Force. Let's not forget the real reason our troops defend the ideals of democracy. Let's show our troops - past and present - the respect and dignity that is well deserved and long overdue.
In the eyes of a child, mom and dad is their entire world. I missed my kids even as I go to my 9-5 job. I can't imagine having to be away so long.
