New Orleans IS a great city..However.. when you have million dollar homes within blocks of crack houses you have serious problems that are just waiting to happen. Lived in the city all my life and uptown and the garden district is amazing... but turn the block at dark and some of the cities wonderful "youth" ride up on a bike and stick a gun in your wifes face and then what? It happens all the time. Sadly... it is a jewel surrounded a virus.
i'm not from upt but my family from there and use ta go over n that area to the candy lady i love new orleans the whole westbank and east i grew up in algiers and it taught me the real world as a young age but it also was one of the best place i ever lived it was fun i can't wait till i go back to new orleans
new orleans is great city to VISIT ...but not to live or grow up in.L.a is one of the best place to raise a child educatin is great very diverse and better opportunities.its gangs but its easy to stay away from that in new orleans its no jobs bad education drugs everywhere and its small.... which will lead too very high crime rates.
@DNIGG23 Are you kidding me? L.A. would not be a great place to raise a child! I lived there and many people leave the city prior to having kids! I would much rather raise kids in NOLA than L.A. - much more culture.
@riverchick23 where? not in my old neighborhood probably in a white neighborhood, i live in l.a it's way more opportunities, better education fuck the culture if you black thats not your culture besides the voodoo that come from Africa.
This is true i also went to France to surf and NO really looks like France and "feels" like France, at least from the videos i've seen.I'd love to live in NO, if there were waves in New Orleans it would be like heaven to me..i think i'll take my guitar when i will come :)
Check out the city of Capbreton and all the acquitanie region..
I lived in New Orleans for 38 years of my life. I wanted to leave it by the time I was 28. I couldn't figure out why. Still haven't. Katrina ran me out. I've lived in Fayetteville AR and now, Tulsa Ok. I can tell you New Orleans has more character than either. I miss the food and the people. I'm planning a trip there this spring. I can hardly wait for a Domilise Po - Boy!
New Orleans is beautiful. We moved here after the Storm and will never leave. Spoils you to everywhere else. We're raising two small children here and they love it too.

I have a love/hate relationship with New Orleans. It does have its beautiful parts, but too many ugly parts. And when it comes down to it NOLA is just not a good place to raise children. Pathetic schools, I have to pay a fortune just to give my daughter a decent private education. We are looking to get out of here and FAST. And its ashame since my husband is a very smart professional who could give alot to the city, but again its not worth the sacrifices. The crime is also driving us out.
Yes you are right. Funny thing happened, I was coming into town after vacation and saw a beautiful view of the city and after 4 yrs of living here for the 1st time I felt it was My city. Almost as if it needed me. Sounds crazy but made me really appreciate it. I now have a new love for NOLA and actually feel like I have roots here. I almost feel sad for bad mouthing New Orleans. I think I want to stay. It feels like home now.
i thought uptown was hood the way lil wayne and baby always talk about it lol

Only two blighted properties visible... and BOTH are owned by Orleans Parish School District! :-(
The rest of the neighborhood looks prosperous. :)

i'm 14, i live in new orleans, and i think its an amazing place to grow up.
theres crime everywhere you go, especially in big cities.
i think you need to suck it up, its the world not some protected little suburb.
i lived in a suburb for about 4 months of my life and everyone wanted to commit suicide because its so depressing.
