Half the things parent's said or did to their children when I was growing up would be called "abusive" today. There are huge differences between true abuse and the Waterworld scene. Some of the most "civilized" people are mental and/or physical abusers. Take an honest look at England's royal family. Who's thought to be more "civilized"? I hope you never see or experience true physical or mental abuse? "Civilized" has nothing to do with it.
