I lived in Roscommon until I was in Jr. High, I watched Deputy Don and Count Zappula all the time. That style of show is an art form, you just don't see scary movies hosted by "characters" anymore. TV 7&4 should really release them on DVD or SOMETHING that stuff has eternal camp value.
I grew up in Alpena, MI and remember how much fun it was to stay up late to watch the Count. I vividly remember the coffin with mag wheels attached to it. Great childhood memories. It would me great to see a DVD of his old shows.
I watched Count Zappula as well..campy show...loved it so much..also his other shows Deputy Don....Don Melvoin was a great personality..I remeber his dog Love? and the dog was renamed Bullet for his Deputy Don show..I would love to have any Deputy Don or Count Zappula again...if there is any footage that still exists, I would buy it. Great performer sorely missed.
I actually remember this guy; I grew up in Michigan and when I was four or five my mom would watch his scary movie show sometimes... scared the crap out of me!! Now I wish there were more video clips around, but since it was before the age of VHS I don't guess there's much footage left, and the Traverse City station probably didn't keep it...
I was actually on the Deputy Don show several times and have all the footage. It's VHS though. Would take some effort to upload it.
My grandpa and Don were war buddies so he was a good friend of the family. Fantastic man.

Yes, he was truly a local legend. I'm sad this is the only thing of him on youtube.

I actually contacted TV 7&4 and all the footage has been destroyed. The only thing they have left is a photo in the lobby, how awful is that?
