  • What else can one say, but IMPECCABLE, BAR-NONE.

  • Smokin

  • So effing good dude. I love SD.

  • Like the arrangement of the background vocals, slightly offset...

    pretty cool

  • listen to this and not rock your foot - no way!

  • Is that Skunk Baxter playing lead? I know he did on many of the studio tracks.

  • LOVE it!!! Thanks for the post, russha717.

  • Happy Birthday Sir Donald!

  • Oh yeah...and gas was about 65 cents a gallon...forgot to mention that, lol.

  • @deadkrow Lol, before my time. I was born in '92

  • Wow, this brings back the memories. Waxing my old '70 Chevelle, soakin down pony Millers with Steely Dan playin on the cassette. Damn, those were the days.

  • I was fortunate enough to be at the Two Against Nature tour stop in Toronto. It was a great night of fabulous music on the shores of Lake Ontario.

  • to think they got their band name from a dildo

  • I could listen to this song every day!

  • Fab. Wish I had been there. Wish I could play like these guys.

  • What an incredible performance.

  • "Sound just like a record on the phonograph" Only better!

  • SD= The bomb of all bombs!

  • I'd camp out overnight for this.

  • Simply the best.

Thank you for putting this up - lots.

And I thought their young version was good, woah

  • Methinks this is about a Wall St "Black Friday," (when the market crashes) not a "Main Street," Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving)...but who cares, it's an awesome song, like all of their music!

  • If you're a musician, you hope to one day be this good, but to expect it is a recipe for disappointment and failure. The live stuff is testament to just how incredible they really are.

  • Dear Santa,

I've been a very good boy. I don't listen to Justin Bieber or Rebecca Black. I just gotta have this DVD! Cookies & Ovaltine will be waiting for you...

  • A memory of a much better time, a great era where we had NO political correctness and idiotic political bickering constantly, especially the blame and finger pointing! Oh to be back in the 70's!

  • Adore this clip !

  • The scene is 1977 and I have my very first car. A 1974 Volkswagon Beetle in mint condition. Of course, I have a killer tape deck in my new car and my hippie hair is flashing out the window as I proudly cruise my home town. And I ain't never going back to my old school.

  • "white" ray Charles ?

  • @jerseyn He wishes ;)

  • the blind "seem" to hear beyond the sighted

  • AND Love the Sawdowski becker plays...

  • love Jon Herington's tele playing.

  • Truly a pleasure to see John Harrington to play!!! an amazing guitar player

  • Don't hold this against me, but I think they will have better success in 1977; Just a hunch. Nice tune,by the way.

  • What a great show this was. I saw it from 12 rows back from the stage at Molson Ampitheatre in Toronto.

  • I never get tired of these guys, they are like brother Leon, masters of time and space, Timeless.......one of a kind.

  • As ABC Records Label Manager for NZ distributors RCA back in the early days ,it was my job to get the Dan out there and on the airwaves....and onto the record Stores shelves. A great thrill to be even a small part of this iconic musical experience.Working personally with the truly great, from Abba to Zappa ,I still have yet to meet Becker and Fagen, or see them perform live.Tomorrow, Friday Nov 4 I shall see them at the Auckland NZ gig and maybe get to 'meet and greet'....if the promoter reme

  • @44RoganAve So, what you're saying is you can't buy a thrill ;) I hope the show awesome.

  • So, what you're saying is you wanted in for free because you "can't buy a thrill?" JK ;) I hope you caught them hook or crook. The Dan's on my bucket list. I chose to not see them 10 years ago and bought 2 tickets for the price of their 1 at Colorado's Red Rocks ampitheater. Dumb dumb dumb.

  • @TuckGoodefellow I was at that Red Rocks show. It was indeed epic. Don't worry, they are still touring!

  • Sweet!

  • I saw them in Sydney 2 nights ago. I have NEVER heard a better live sound from a band & what dazzling virtuosity, this band possesses. The best 4 piece horn section I have heard & Jon Herrington's fretwork was peerless. Reminiscent of Larry Carlton but with a harder edge, which I prefer. Fagan's vocals were gold & the 3 backup vocalists put out a sound like 6 singers. These guys are amongst the best musicians on this planet.

  • I got to work on sound crew once for Steely Dan. What a privilege it was after admiring this band for so many years, to be able to work on the same stage, while they are still around. It was one of the best shows I ever worked on, in more than 30 years. One of the few backstage passes that truly deserve a place of honor in my scrapbook.

  • I consistently loved this band since I was 18. Now 49, I've worn out multiple copies of of the same album in album, 8-track and cassette tape formats. Only band I never get tired of hearing. Probably cause radio never figured it out and overplayed them like they did everyone else. To my benefit.

  • This fine band took the cue for their name from "Playboy" mag's ad for "Steely Dan", a chrome vibrator. lol Whatever, Dan's the best!

  • I love those awesome chords they use over eachother in the chorus. the F#/D# into the A/D and then A/B just sounds too epic!

  • It's time to get down on Black Friday!

  • Black Friday is coming soon to a local town near YOU!

  • I have tix for Boston Saturday night!!! Can't wait!!

  • economic collapse?...

  • This Sat. at the Beacon baby! Got my tix.

  • saw them tonight at the tower theatre pa, f in awe sum, pa in pa

  • This is the tightest band ever. Listen to this llive and I would prob have an OOBE, right. A gem a jewel. I love this better than fat kids live cake.

  • an unmatched talent to be treasured, thank you Steely Dan for bringing back memories. The sound is amazing, Donald still sounds like he did 35 years ago and the band is still as tight as ever!

  • Love that JH solo...oh, yes!!

  • Jon Herington is a realy great mechanic. Precision craftsmanship coming from another talented Jersey player.

  • Steely Dan=Awsome

  • All other band inspire to be as good as this one! This is music!

  • awesome!!! Steely Dan. rolling BLAZZ, dat ber blues and jazz.

  • Steely Dan Retroactively making fun of Rebecca Black's Friday

  • Piece de Resistance. Steely Dan is when art meets music.

  • great music never ever gets old!!

  • just took a toke and leaning back just soaking this song in awsome

  • still one of the best bands ever

  • Yea you better watch out!!! With this economy you may be jumping!!!!

  • just....wonderful!

  • one of the masterpieces of SD

  • donald fagen incorpora ray charles!

  • @robsonluizmusico

saró blasfemo, ma per me era Ray a incorprorare Donald

    Musicalmente Donald gli é superiore

(per il semplice motivo che Donald é superiore a tutti),

    con tutto il dovuto rispetto

per il buon vecchio Ray, of course :-)

  • Great band! Thanks for keeping your original sounds we have all come to know and love!

  • Amazing song. I grew up with this thanks to my dad (I'm 28) I love fagons cynical sounding voice. He puts together a hell of a band as well.

  • This is so perfect, sounds like their miming to the original record, incredible band.

  • I love this band they were totally original. Fantastic musicians and unique songs.

  • NICE! I just gotta say, The TV show the sopranos made me find this amazing music!

  • 22 people went diving from the 14th floor with the gray men.

  • This song is referring to Black Friday during the market crash of 1929. We are heading for another "Black Friday".

  • @deckeran The market crashed on "Black Tuesday" Oct 24 1929 !!!

  • Black Friday - October 25, 1929 - was when the stock market crash of '29 hit Europe and started crashing their markets as well.

Like now, a time to try to start again.

  • Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, which is always Friday, and the beginning of Christmas Shopping Sales.

    Great Song, Great Job russha.

  • Could a USA person help me out here please? What does "Black Friday" mean? We don't have that term in the UK. Always wondered what this song was referring to. Thanks!

  • @Gary190tube Here in the states, the term Black Friday has two meanings. The original refers to a U.S. financial crisis in 1869 and 1929. It is also the day after Thanksgiving, celebrated on the last Thursday of November. the unofficial start of the Christmas shopping season. The song sounds like it is referring to something bad, like the stock market crash of 1929, when people really did jump out of windows after losing everything.

  • @cutlass71469 Thanks :-)

  • Rock on saw em twice in Chi town years ago They were awesome

  • I'm just blown away by Steely Dan. They're the best in the business! No one makes quality music like that anymore. They just keep getting better too. They have an incredible band. All those musicians are top-notch! I miss Cornelius Bumpus though. His saxophone made the tunes even better. A lot of their live performances surpass the album version. It's stuff like that that makes life worth living! Hoping to be able to catch them at the Minnesota State fair this summer.

  • I'm a presbyterian and I liked it. I'm a quantum presbyterian tho....

  • OMG! shut the fuck up about Rebecca fucking Black, enjoy SD

  • I know that one of the guys who disliked this dived from the 14th floor and nobody caught him.

  • @rocnrolldr I picked him / her up with a mop !!!

  • so true alrozz...

    Raphaela

  • I go to College and play in a band when I'm not in school trying to make some money and find out I'm making more money then what this College is doing so I drop out of College and pursue my music and that is exactly what Steely Dan did, done and the rest is History.

  • Guitar player is a good. Ive heard the original so many times his playing just sounds a little stiff by comparison.

  • yea. It makes me want to grab my guitar and play along.

  • I wonder why Donald bent those notes on the end of the phrases (unlike the record), it doesn't do the dynamics of the song any favors. Great stuff though...

  • Beg pardon Rocco, but I'ma hillbilly and I LOVE the Dan! :)

  • I imagine the dislikes were primarily Wall street bankers, maybe even Ben Shalom Bernanke ;-)

  • Hey brother... Presbyterians ARE on board with this. We use this hot little number for Good Friday. Commmmmon! And we don't hang with Orrin or them other cats... well maybe a coupl'a blue grass hillbillies.

  • Hey brother... Presbyterians ARE on board with this. We use this hot little number for Good Friday. Commmmmon!

  • I think I've listened overall, from the late 70's to mid80's more of Steely Dan than any other fucking band on the PLANET. tight, ultra cool witt smart mean machines of creation ...

  • How many times does the aforementioned day have to 'come'?

  • as much as i hate these comments,i i couldnt resist. 2 people thought this was rebecca bllcks friday

  • I won't click dislike, but it's definitely not one of their better songs in my opinion!

  • que grosos !!XD!!!

  • This band is amazing. Have been a fan since the beginning of Steely Dan. Thanks for sharing.

  • Wow the sound and song is top quality!!! :)

  • The groove on this is intoxicating!!

  • Thank God for an older brother... been listening to Steely Dan since '72 when my big brother came home from UNI and lent me Can't Buy A Thrill while he went off to Poland, been listening ever since, I'm 54 now!
