If you're a musician, you hope to one day be this good, but to expect it is a recipe for disappointment and failure. The live stuff is testament to just how incredible they really are.

A memory of a much better time, a great era where we had NO political correctness and idiotic political bickering constantly, especially the blame and finger pointing! Oh to be back in the 70's!
The scene is 1977 and I have my very first car. A 1974 Volkswagon Beetle in mint condition. Of course, I have a killer tape deck in my new car and my hippie hair is flashing out the window as I proudly cruise my home town. And I ain't never going back to my old school.

So, what you're saying is you wanted in for free because you "can't buy a thrill?" JK ;) I hope you caught them hook or crook. The Dan's on my bucket list. I chose to not see them 10 years ago and bought 2 tickets for the price of their 1 at Colorado's Red Rocks ampitheater. Dumb dumb dumb.
I saw them in Sydney 2 nights ago. I have NEVER heard a better live sound from a band & what dazzling virtuosity, this band possesses. The best 4 piece horn section I have heard & Jon Herrington's fretwork was peerless. Reminiscent of Larry Carlton but with a harder edge, which I prefer. Fagan's vocals were gold & the 3 backup vocalists put out a sound like 6 singers. These guys are amongst the best musicians on this planet.
I got to work on sound crew once for Steely Dan. What a privilege it was after admiring this band for so many years, to be able to work on the same stage, while they are still around. It was one of the best shows I ever worked on, in more than 30 years. One of the few backstage passes that truly deserve a place of honor in my scrapbook.
I consistently loved this band since I was 18. Now 49, I've worn out multiple copies of of the same album in album, 8-track and cassette tape formats. Only band I never get tired of hearing. Probably cause radio never figured it out and overplayed them like they did everyone else. To my benefit.

an unmatched talent to be treasured, thank you Steely Dan for bringing back memories. The sound is amazing, Donald still sounds like he did 35 years ago and the band is still as tight as ever!
It was not about the crash of 1929, it was about the crash of 1974, which is the 7th worst crash in history. There were lotz of other things happening in 1974. NYC was not the yuppie city of today. It was falling asunder, in fact. The end of the war...
Could a USA person help me out here please? What does "Black Friday" mean? We don't have that term in the UK. Always wondered what this song was referring to. Thanks!
@Gary190tube Here in the states, the term Black Friday has two meanings. The original refers to a U.S. financial crisis in 1869 and 1929. It is also the day after Thanksgiving, celebrated on the last Thursday of November. the unofficial start of the Christmas shopping season. The song sounds like it is referring to something bad, like the stock market crash of 1929, when people really did jump out of windows after losing everything.
I'm just blown away by Steely Dan. They're the best in the business! No one makes quality music like that anymore. They just keep getting better too. They have an incredible band. All those musicians are top-notch! I miss Cornelius Bumpus though. His saxophone made the tunes even better. A lot of their live performances surpass the album version. It's stuff like that that makes life worth living! Hoping to be able to catch them at the Minnesota State fair this summer.

I wonder why Donald bent those notes on the end of the phrases (unlike the record), it doesn't do the dynamics of the song any favors. Great stuff though...

If you're a musician, you hope to one day be this good, but to expect it is a recipe for disappointment and failure. The live stuff is testament to just how incredible they really are.

Dear Santa,
I've been a very good boy. I don't listen to Justin Bieber or Rebecca Black. I just gotta have this DVD! Cookies & Ovaltine will be waiting for you...

Don't hold this against me, but I think they will have better success in 1977; Just a hunch. Nice tune,by the way.

What a great show this was. I saw it from 12 rows back from the stage at Molson Ampitheatre in Toronto.

As ABC Records Label Manager for NZ distributors RCA back in the early days ,it was my job to get the Dan out there and on the airwaves....and onto the record Stores shelves. A great thrill to be even a small part of this iconic musical experience.Working personally with the truly great, from Abba to Zappa ,I still have yet to meet Becker and Fagen, or see them perform live.Tomorrow, Friday Nov 4 I shall see them at the Auckland NZ gig and maybe get to 'meet and greet'....if the promoter reme

@44RoganAve So, what you're saying is you can't buy a thrill ;) I hope the show awesome.

@TuckGoodefellow I was at that Red Rocks show. It was indeed epic. Don't worry, they are still touring!

This fine band took the cue for their name from "Playboy" mag's ad for "Steely Dan", a chrome vibrator. lol Whatever, Dan's the best!

I love those awesome chords they use over eachother in the chorus. the F#/D# into the A/D and then A/B just sounds too epic!
