Finally a tube amp on here engineered with some common sense, normal relatively inexpensive tubes, off the shelf transformers, solid state rectifiers. Why would anyone use tube rectifiers in a newly built amplifier I will never know, especially mercury vapor units like an 866.

@helicoptered No it wouldn't be 8 watts, the tube manual rates a 6V6 at about 5 or 6 watts max single ended, up to maybe 4 without distortion, that's if you drive it hard with about 400 volts on the plate and screen grids. To get 8 watts or better you would have to go to push pull.

@helicoptered Sometimes it can double or more then double the output power, depending on the circuit and voltages used, but mostly it's to counteract and reduce the level of distortion. There are websites and books out there that explain the engineering principles much better then I ever could, one of the first places that you can look is either a tube manual or an older ARRL manual, but be warned as there are a lot of audiophool websites that contain a lot of unsubstantiated crap.

How's the bass delivery??? Tubes give a nice crystal sound but don't really have the power for a heavy bass.... These amps are perfect but I'm a more modern music guy.... :-(
