  • I kind of like your painting. It's different, and that's cool, but the title is ridiculous. People are generally pretty nice when commenting on painting videos no matter how shitty it is, yet your video has a ton of dislikes, and it's because you referred to yourself as an "Oil Painting Master." It really doesn't mean anything when it's self-applied. All it does is make people want to try and refute it because they're so annoyed you had the audacity to make such a claim, then paint a monkey.

  • Yeap, that's definitely florentine technique. I think what's everyone is babbling about, the negative feedback that is, is that it is hard to associate the technique with the genre of images you picked other than that, they look good. I would make them more painterly, with a bit more texture

  • How does the Flourentine Method work? I've never heard of it before.

  • If this is a self-portrait, who is that guy on the right?

  • how many days?

  • Excellent work! I love this style and your technique is great.

  • The painting and style is very impressive. Some idiots that have commented here are just ignorant. Im pretty sure that not just anyone can paint like this, and above else they should really understand that you cant really paint somthing and 'exepct it to look good' from your head. Savador Dali painted from his head, and the animals he portrayed looked like shit. But if it were me, yes i would use a reference. And yes, i hav seen your website and i am in belief u are a master, well done.

  • Me encanta!!!

  • this was cool. I dug watching it. The music is perfect. thanx for doing this, I love seeing the timeline of how you painted this picture.

  • wow - all this because the title says "master" - you guys are way to hard on people - Jeff's art is incredible, i like the one person who said some names of living artists he thinks are masters - anyways, i'd say Jeff is a Master Oil Panter - but that's just me :)

  • master is a word, discribing the one who posses fully knowledge of a technic that lead as result to art through complex thinking.

    art=τεχνη

    technic=τεχνικη

    translation to greeks,

cant do art without the technic

  • Amazing and outstanding artwork.

  • What is a Master? I do not know. It seems to me that the title is and has alwaays been meaningless and relative. WELCOME TO POSTMODERNISM FUCKTARDS!

  • control, ability to do things most people can't comprehend, or of course having great expertise in some or all areas of painting. Those i'd say maybe master worthy, unlike this painter who's proportions are way off more micro than macro. This guy has been taught well but should have put more time into drawing. The Backbone after all in realism, and a face on the street with even a slight skew would be very noticeable, that transfers over to how the mind reads even if you have a weak eye 4 art.

  • nah, Frank Stella makes beautiful things without having ever really studied realism...its not necessary as long as you know the design basics. And now with the conceptualists even those are going out the window...isnt that exciting?

  • Frank stella's work bores me, I'd rather never look at it. Real beauty comes from nature, and the way nature behaves because we are nature. Yeah, it is, i'm ready for what art has become to die out and let something better take it's place.

  • True nature is in the abstract.

  • Exactly, and true natural abstraction conforms to the laws of nature. Light, perspective, atmosphere, etc. Not just a representation of part of it. Rembrandt is one of the greatest examples of a great abstract painter.

  • yeah but at the end of the day its still a painting of "something." Although there are abstract concepts there I like the idea of removing physical subject matter from an image. I think though that if rembrandt was alive today he would be an abstract expressionist....maybe clyfford still-esque.

  • Its all something and it's all physical subject matter, it's just that some things give a unique vision while others become a thing in themselves; I like those things for decoration. Well people like what they like, most things but archetypes bother me and i'm bothered by 99 percent of what I see as art. I think he wouldn't lower himself, Rembrandt loved illusion and captured souls. He painted a philosophy of seeing the world. Besides, do you really believe pure abstract was unheard of then.

  • far from a master.......open up a book on the louvre's painting. take a look at Jaques louis David, caravaggio, veronese, joseph wright of derby, el greco, rembrant, davinci, Raphael....

and for today's master Jeremy Lipking, Jacob collins are to name a few......

  • Nice, much better than the average "painter" on youtube.

Dunno if master yet, but good anyways.

  • "profound statements" heh.

after viewing his website I can say quite certainly that this is no master.

  • Thanks for taking a look at my website.

  • no prob, man. Actually your site is great, well put together. your work just isn't for me. i think master is a bit generous. keep it up.

  • Wow, just wow.............

  • anal retentive much?

  • Truely amazing, I love the sort of realism mixed with fantasy in paintings. Beautiful work.

  • that is a awesome piece of work, I'm sure it felt great to step back from that when you were finished

  • great work!!

  • people are so rude on youtube, great work

  • Master? look at Mian Situ or Richard Schmid, There masters

  • Firstly...and who are you? Secondly, learn how to spell if you're going to attempt to talk above people. Thirdly, fuck off. And forthly, I'd say this dudes a master.

  • I'm Kris

  • pointless but atleast u do know how to paint

  • plumial von scrodman terrabunter snips crethanns goliphanntny wubblage and

    festularinth makes as much sense

  • How do you prime your canvas ? Oil or Acrylics ? Do you use Zinc White or White Lead ?

  • well if it is supossed to be classic technique, it should be primed with gesso, then an imprimatura with oils. once dry the death colors are made with lead white. however this one is missing the layers with burnt umber.

  • I'm painting on linen and it's oil primed. I use oils with lead white in the verdaccio (greenish-gray underpainting) and titanium white in the upper layers.

  • That is awesome. Love the music.

  • It is nothing but a devil dance by this 'so called 'artist.' What is the intention of puting it here? No better busiess Jef Naugubaglor? Thank Gos- we have better dedicated other artists here in this Youtube.

  • he put it up here to show people a time lapse of a painting, why else? it's youtube! you must be pretty thick, no?

  • Great painting

  • FORTE.....!

  • Good job on this paintings. You should check out my roommate's painting. He's a fledgling artist but I'd say he's pretty good. Search "2astronauts". Good video again, peace.

  • so ur central theme is to have a drink with animals just great?

  • very nice

  • your painting are nice original i like the one with the accordian , nice work and good color mixing .

    ciao Alessio

  • Did you seriously just say that? Do you know anything about painting? What does "just technique" mean anyways? Are you saying this painting is void of imagination or creativity which is really what art is? You, sir, are an ignorant critic.

  • Well you got me there. The images I'm holding are what artists refer to as "reference". And because I REALLY COULDN'T find a baboon to model for a few days, holding a martini, I had to create one from my imagination. To get is as accurate to a real baboon as possible, I used reference photos that I found on the web for it. The background and human figure are a combination of reference photos as well. They were all synthesized into one, single painted image.

  • @GoNoRdEaTh Ignorant peice of shit, rofl. Im guessing you've painted crap loads of amazing work without looking at a reference. Lol. Dought it. Your cyber trash.

  • Sir rich here in Iraq ...I seem to thinking of nothing but a painting I would love to have done of my wife and child..Wife as a warrior or angel protecting the child from harm... Do you do commissions?

  • still looking for someone to paint a picture of my wife in a theme set as in a warrior or princess or angel somethint like that i was wondering wht it cost and how long will it take how about quality can anyone point me in the right direction as far a good quality artist.

  • You might as well stay monochromatic and quarter the size of everything. See Mark Tansey.

  • great work!

  • Great talent and work. I agree with koenbp, choose more condusive music.

  • wonderful! 5 stars!

  • paint naked yeaaah!

  • Love the painting, love the idea behind it. Love what I get from it. Nice work Jeff.

  • Are you drawing it and then painting it, how do you do the outline before you fill it in. What im trying to say is if I could paint as good as I can draw, I would quite everything and be a painter.

  • Draw first... I think it's easier that way. Or at least make a rough sketch of the drawing first, then fill it in. It takes practice to understand what is best for you basically.

  • great

  • Brilliant!

    Kind Regards

    Artist: Stuart Ridley

  • Master? Maybe old master. Avant-garde abstract master? Not!!!

  • pearl jam

  • Wow, not only can you paint--you can dance!

  • Masterful ^_~ I wondered how long it took you to do this painting Jeff ?

  • bravo

  • master, los cojones. como Velazquez o Goya. Maestro ...

  • Great vid dude. This is not a dis-a-post, you do not need to copy and paste this into other videos. You will not die.

  • Chocholate-box art... :(

  • Chocolate box? This is real art... So I hope you were just being facetious. I don't think Cadburys etc would commision this for a chocolate box!

Wish i could paint like that.

  • Pretty Good'' :D

  • That is so damn cool.

  • Awesome. I appreciate the answer very much. One more thing (sorry if I'm asking too many questions), Is this linen or cotton duck your painting on? what painting medium do you use? from here it seems like liquin stand and turp. And since I'm kinda knew at this, I'm curious as to what the pro's and cons were between sable, bristle and synthetic brushes are. Thankyou very much for answering my previous questions. I don't have to suggest u keep up with what ur doing bro! ;-)

    Peace

  • I always use linen because I like the feel and strength. I use liquin in the underpainting and some parts of the overpainting. I also use a medium mixed with linseed (stand oil), turp and a tiny bit of venitian turp. I never use synthetic brushes because I don't like they way the feel or handle paint. I use the bristle brushes first to lay the foundation, then use sable brushes for details and glazing. Hope that helps!

  • Was the underpainting chroma mars black, or grey. I can't see clearly enough to discern it. Nevertheless, pretty cool.

  • Sorry about the video quality - there's a much better copy on my website. The underpainting is a mix of chromium oxide green and mars black - both of which have a low oil load. It's mixed with lead white to create the upper values and mars black for the lower. The green foundation is important (as renassaince painters discovered) because the fleshtones can then have "soft areas" where the green shows through. Thanks for stopping by and checking it out.

  • fucking awesome

  • good job

    keep it up brother!

    :-)
