  • LOL he got removed because Toddlers did that and were in emergency rooms because of head injurys..

  • WHATS A DIAMOND DOING IN A PIE!

  • I know a man who looks just like the middle singer! Hilarious!

  • Kermit and Don work on his music together. The way Don wrote the music is different from the original. It makes no sense.

  • Both Don Music AND his back-woods background singers RULE.

I didn't realize how well Don Music's singer-songwriter genre could so easily be translated into country!

  • i still think of this version whenever i hear twinkle twinkle little star xD

  • why is kermit on sesame street. i thought muppet show and sesame street where enemies? my worlds are confused..

  • LoL..mI lil SiS lOoK jUs LiKe DoN mUsIc

  • I read that they took Don Music off Sesame Street because they feared kids would imitate his head-banging whenever he gets frusterated. Well it would explain why I'M so messed up. :-)

  • When i was little it used crack me up when don music would slam his head on the piano.

  • "Ill never get it- never!!!" BONG!!!

  • I'd forgotten how much Don Music looked like Keith Olbermann.

  • U guys are right..Don Music is the shit!

  • Kids were SO MUCH FUCKIN SMARTER back then! I actually laughed at sesame street!

  • this character is sesame streets best one! hahahahahaha by the way, i never banged my head on a piano. bring this character back.

  • YES!!!! I loved Don Music!

  • looks like jay leno

  • LMAO! Don Music rules!!!

  • WTF? HAHA

  • who is playing Don Music?

  • He is performed by Richard Hunt, one of Jim Henson's best performers.

    Richard is my idol!

  • Hahah This could be my biggest hit! LOL

  • I used to collapse in laughter watching this guy as a kid. It's just too too funny, even now it cracks me up. Don Music OWNS

  • Well, that doesn't make any sense, I mean stars don't EAT!!!!!! LMAO

  • haha they totally just effed up the twinkle twinkle song. haha

  • Classic.

  • I remember this retarded episode of News Flash.

  • OMG, this is hilarious! SS rocks!

  • I miss reporter Kermit on modern Sesame Street. Don Music looks a little like Guy Smilie, whatever happened to him?

  • Don Music was removed from the show after parents complained their children were imitating him by banging their heads against the wall.

  • I love it because I can hear the kids screaming at the TV screen.

  • HA HA HAAAAAAAA!!!! This is when Sesame Street was Sesame Street. I don't know what the hell it is now.

  • This is timeless and hilarious for all ages.

  • there's Joe Raposo in the photo on the wall by the door.... nice tribute !!

  • The rewrite at the end makes more sense than some of the crappy music today. I miss Don.

  • Can anybody tell me what scale does Don Music write "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" on?

  • D Major

  • D major

  • G Major

  • Fish scale? XD

    Just kidding.

  • I believe it is in D Major, my friend. 'D' like a diamond in a pie.

  • C Chord.

  • sounds like D major to me

  • D Major :)

  • How about Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds? haha

Was Don Music a rip off of anyone popular at the time?

  • I wish he was still on Sesame Street.

He got taken off because the actor died, and because kids were bangin their heads on pianos.

  • Don Music was THE original "head banger." :)

  • it could be an advertisement

  • Don Music would always try to write a song that already exsist. that's why it's funny. "HAM ON RYE"!!!!! I'm 30 and it's funny now!!

  • "It could be an advertisement for something."

    Kermit is quite the deadpan.

  • when i was little this dude use t give me nightmares ha i dky either thedude i yellow

  • that is hilarious ! !

    : D

  • so many of the Sesame Street characters had serious anger issues

  • that's what made them so real to normal situations of life and not only children loved them but adults too! Things like that does not happen with actual characters full of love and compassion 9_9 I think that's laaaame :/ and totally unreal.

  • I agree w/makikuroneko here. There was a lot of differnt personality types on Sesame Street. They all managed to get along just fine. I believe Sesame Street taught children how to deal w/people in certain situations.

  • i have two toddlers who watch the modern Sesame Street :P ugh... they like it some of the time but for the most part they ignore it. naturally they like Elmo..but it all drives me up the wall. i remember old school Sesame Street and thank GOD i can buy it on DVD! which is what i'm going to do REALLY soon because i hate Abby Kadabby, and Tellie with Triangle fetish :P

  • You said it.............Tellie monster drives me nuts!! Pathetic whimpering little worm!! Cookie monster would eat him for breakfast!

  • D'you know something, I never knew who Don Music was until a few months ago (unfortunately I was mostly subjected to Elmo as a little kid). Four years ago now I created a bespectacled, untidy-haired, semi-neurotic fictional character who plays the electric guitar. Coincidence much, or do I have a subconscious connection with Don Music?

  • i tried imitating that when i was little--banged my head on the keys and got a nasty bruise on my forehead "oh, I'll nevah get it!Nevah!!(Banging piano!!Bam!)

  • I heard that's why they phased Don M out; too many parents were complaining that kids were emulating his (no pun intended) "head banging".

  • "I want a co-lyricist credit, here."

    Hahaha.

  • Of course Don does actually SAY the word 'sky' during the conversation "A cherry pie doesn't hang up in the sky". Kermit's usually smart enough to notice (cf Don writes Yankee Doodle).

  • thank you for posting this! It was a trip down memory lane :)

  • WOW!! I thought I was the only one who was scared by that freaking muppet!!! And I was scared of his looks and his yelling. I think it gives a big impression to little kids, I used to hide under the bed when I saw him, he was horrible LOL And I remember it too because of his moaning and his weird songs LOL

  • Don Music looks like Jarvis Cocker.

  • This guy scared the crap out of me as a kid, not so much the yelling, more so his funny looks...

  • How come Don didn't sing with the trio at the end? He usually does.

  • "How come Don didn't sing with the trio at the end? He usually does."

Garretk41 you haven't watched this because if you had you'd know he DOES sing with a trio at the end. Go back to sleep.

  • No, 80sgal. He has his mouth open, he's moving to the beat, but he is NOT singing along. Look more carefully.

  • Love how the background singers are always available.....

  • Don Music was my favorite Sesame Street character.

  • This classic Sesame Street stuff is very clever from an adult standpoint

  • hahahaha...love the ham on rye line!!!

  • I always loved Don Music!!! This is a classic!!

  • Brilliant!

  • SKY........ lol !!

  • Warrant-Cherry Pie

  • She's my cherry pie... taste's so good make a grown man cry, sweet cherry pie.

  • Only Don Music skit I remember. Almost exactly how I remember.

  • I love how it becomes a totally different song by the end - Brilliant!

  • Kermit: I want a co-lyricist credit.

    LOL

  • wasn't sesame street just the most brilliant piece of work ever.

  • Ooooooooo...the memories...I was an abused child..sniff sniff...

  • I didn't know Don Music wrote country music. With all the head-banging he did, I thought he'd be better suited writing metal songs.

  • Notice that at one point Mr. Music actually comes up with the right word, but is so caught up in the argument that he fails to catch it.

"What's a cherry pie doing up in the *sky*?!!"

If that was deliberate, than it's an example of utter genius from the writers and/or Richard Hunt.

  • Great observation!!

  • Now that's great writing. How clever. I remember watching this with my girls yr.s ago.

  • Please excuse while I go bang my head against a piano keyboard!

  • Ture True!....i agree with the frog thing....

"whats a diamond doing in a pie!"

  • Does Don Music remind anyone else of Ben Folds? Hahahaha I love this.

  • LMAO "like a diamond in a pie" ha ha ha" that doesnt make much sense..what is a diamond doing in a pie?"

  • hahaha!

  • hey I watched this when I was ahm younger .. great ^^

Morgen kommt der Weihnachtsmann, kommt mit seinen Gaben xD

  • I remember watching this when I was a kid. 'Mary Had a Bicycle' is tied with this as my favorite. I still sing 'like a cherry in a pie' when I hear this.

  • hahah i loved this!

  • I remember this so well. I love Don Music. He rocks. I love the bit when he says I'll never get it never, never, never, never then bangs his head on the piano. That's the bit that cracks me up and has me in stitches.

  • Don reminds me of a professor I once had, lol.

  • Not again...first 'Little Lamb', now it's 'Little Star'! These are very funny!

  • hahaha. dang this brings back so much memories.

  • They discontinued Don Music because kids were immitating the way he hits his head on the piano.

  • Another crushing blow for natural selection. ;)

  • OMG! I forgot about Don Music! Now, I remember I loved him because it was funny to watch him slam his face into the piano, plus I was a piano player too. Oh, this is wonderful! I'm remembering! Thanks so much!

  • don music rules

  • I've always been in love with Don Music T.T

  • I've Done it Again. Nope i think kermit helped him. and how can birds eat ham and cheese. they don't hace teeth.

  • I'll never get it!!! Never, never, never, never!!!!

    (piano crash)

    Love it!

  • don always scared me because he beat himself

  • I prefer Flutter Flutter Little Bat.

  • Stars don't eat!

  • Nice sketch. And I like the Joe Raposo portrait in the background. A nice tribute to a great composer. And if the crumbs are all you want, don't come into our restaurant.

    ~Ra'akone

  • Don Music horrified me when I was little. like, horrified to the point of screaming bloody-murder and shaking.

  • Did you know this character was banned because he kept on hitting his head againist the piano it's true! I saw it on Sesame Street Trivia IMDb

  • he wasn't i worked for ctw then

  • i love don music he was halerious lol i think he's bi polar tho? hehe

  • I remember this! I also recall that this dude used to make me laugh but he also scared me a little lol

  • I haven't seen this since the 70's. I used to love this guy as a kid! Now I'm an artist, and I feel like him all the time.

  • I just LOVE Kermit's side comments at the beginning.

    LOLOLOLOLOL.

  • My Fav Muppet!!

  • his character was banned cause people thought he was self abusive. It's a shame.

  • he wasn't banned

  • I ment that they stopped using him

  • he was not banned they used him in several cartoons but you wouldn't know that idiot

  • alwaysan80sgal, Don Music WAS put into early retirement (i.e. the character WAS discontinued) AFTER Richard Hunt's death, BECAUSE kids would emulate Don's head banging, and it got certain organizations--i.e. the "soccer mom" ones that ruin quality entertainment--angry and as a result, Mr. Music was canned as a character.

  • TherealRNO why do you pick on a poster that isn't even here? Check it out this alwaysan80sgal you speak of has no page anymore. Yours is a sign of true idiocy for all any of us know you could have been this alwaysan80sgal. Have you nothing better to do than pic on others?????????? You need a life.

  • What a shame! The whole reason why I remember this charactor is because he used to moan and bang his head!!! I'm just delighted to see this is all preserved where we can relive out past whenever we want...

  • I read that The CTW got rid of Don Music because they didn't want kids to bang their heads like Don did.

  • The kids hurting themselves by banging their heads on pianos, walls, etc. is most likely nonsense. It's simple. Richard Hunt died. They couldn't find a suitable vocal replacement for Don Music. The baker films were not pulled because they terrified kids. They were pulled because they were dated by the 80s. I wish Sesame Workshop would tell the true stories instead of the nonsense that they put into fluff books like Sesame Unpaved

  • correction i mean they used him in several skits but you wouldn't know that would you?

  • Does anyone have the one where Don Music was writing "Old MacDonald had a farm e-i-e-i-o, and on that farm he had a frog?" Of course the frog was Kermit, and he didn't seem too pleased about it. Anyone have that one?

  • You know what I think they should have done? I think they should of had the Gogolala Jubilee Jugband from the first season of the Muppet Show as the singers.

  • Kermit needs credit for his help!!!

  • Does anyone have a video where he changed "Mary had a little lamb" to "Mary had a bicycle"? I had a tape with that one, but unfortunately we accidentally threw it away when we moved...

  • Hey Don, ever here the expression, "pie in the sky"?

  • BRAVA!! i luv kermet..its a classic

  • This is ONE of my favorite characters from this show! Awesome!!!!

  • Don Music reminds me of Windslow Leach from "Phantom of the Paradise".

Though he never banged his head on the piano in that film...

  • Dude, did anyone else hear about how they quit running Don Music sketches because kids started banging their heads on pianos and the parents sued???

  • Nah, I think that's an urban legend :) Isn't the guy who voiced Don Music the same guy who voiced that cow that used to think it was a dog, etc. ?

  • Actually, there's a book called Sesame Street: Unpaved where they wrote about all the characters that only were on for a short time, and that's what they said... that and the guy who laughed histerically got cut because it hurt Jim Henson's voice to laugh like that....

  • That was Harvey Kneeslapper and Frank Oz provided his voice.

  • Richard Hunt performed Don Music and Gladys the Cow.

  • That's the only fun my sister and I had with the piano in our house...

  • I always thought Don Music looked like Guy Smiley on a bad hair day.

  • LOL...Don Music used to crack me up esp when he'd hit his head on the piano "Oh I'll NEVER NEVER get it!!!"...he had Jim Henson hair.

  • Bravo Don Music.

  • Awesome :D:D:D i luv it

  • Oh I love Don Music, he's a ARTIST!!! But that head hitting is painful.

  • Did anyone else notice Don say "What's a cherry pie doing up above in the Sky?" at 1.54? ;)

  • yeah, i think every1 did lol

  • he also said "that doesn't make any sense stars don't eat" lol

  • sadly - i still deal with my frustrations in life the exact same way as Don :-(

  • My sister and dad talked about this one for years and I had never seen it. Of course, it's much better than any version they sang! LOL

  • Listen carefully to the dialogue: Don Music comes up with the closing line "If those crumbs are all you want, don't come to my restaurant", yet when the singers perform the song, the line mysteriously changes to "If those crumbs are all you want, don't come *in* my restaurant".

One can only assume that the singers simply misheard the line while they were hiding behind the piano waiting for Mr. Music's cue...

  • There are actually several differences:

Don comes up with "AND if THE crumbs are all you want, THEN don't come TO my restaurant."

The singers change it to "___ if THOSE crumbs are all you want, ____ don't come IN my restaurant." ;-)

  • Thanks for pointing those differences out, 1977JAGuar; I hadn't noticed them at all! I guess I'll have to listen more carefully next time...

  • Oh I'll never get it right! NEVER NEVER NEVER!!!!

  • LMFAO! I cannot believe how funny this is to me now. Totally missed it when I was wee.

  • When I first saw this, I believed those cowboy Muppets sang about peanut-butter crackers, and how it helped to shape Earth (this is only a dream).

  • That's cool, sir.

  • This is so much more funny nowadays as it was for me 20 years ago !!!

  • LMAO

  • I can't believe I have never thought of this before, but I am amazed and shocked at how simiar Don Music's voice is to Stewie Griffin's!

  • Don Music reminds me of the keyboard player with the Doors

  • Ray Manzarek?

But Ray didn't have the crazy hair or the Bipolar issues. :)

Nevertheless, I've decided Don is my fav old school character.

  • Let's listen. Shall we, yes? What the heck kinda wording is that? As much as I love S.S., that didn't make much sense to me.

  • The more gramatical version of that, if you will, would be more like... "Let's listen shall we? Yes."

  • This is awesome I was actually looking for this one!!

Does anyone have the one where he re-writes the Sesame Street theme???? It goes sort of like:

"Stormy Night, not even a star in sight.

On my way to where the sky is dark...

Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Yellowstone Park!?!"

  • oh man, i love that song, but i'd forgotten till just now, haha. i hope somebody finds it and uploads it.

  • BTW, in case you don't know. That's already re-uploaded by tpriman1982.

So in that case, I'd be happy to share it with you.

  • he was cut because kids were imitating his head-banging.

  • Yeah...one of the main producers of the show got letters and complaints about him. Rumor has it that Jim Henson was told about it and he had to cut him because of kids hitting their heads on pianos.

  • Yay, another Don Music clip!

  • I dedicate this one to the late Richard Hunt.

  • thats nice
