I read that they took Don Music off Sesame Street because they feared kids would imitate his head-banging whenever he gets frusterated. Well it would explain why I'M so messed up. :-)
that's what made them so real to normal situations of life and not only children loved them but adults too! Things like that does not happen with actual characters full of love and compassion 9_9 I think that's laaaame :/ and totally unreal.
I agree w/makikuroneko here. There was a lot of differnt personality types on Sesame Street. They all managed to get along just fine. I believe Sesame Street taught children how to deal w/people in certain situations.

D'you know something, I never knew who Don Music was until a few months ago (unfortunately I was mostly subjected to Elmo as a little kid). Four years ago now I created a bespectacled, untidy-haired, semi-neurotic fictional character who plays the electric guitar. Coincidence much, or do I have a subconscious connection with Don Music?
i tried imitating that when i was little--banged my head on the keys and got a nasty bruise on my forehead "oh, I'll nevah get it!Nevah!!(Banging piano!!Bam!)
Of course Don does actually SAY the word 'sky' during the conversation "A cherry pie doesn't hang up in the sky". Kermit's usually smart enough to notice (cf Don writes Yankee Doodle).
WOW!! I thought I was the only one who was scared by that freaking muppet!!! And I was scared of his looks and his yelling. Nice sketch. And I like the Joe Raposo portrait in the background. A nice tribute to a great composer. And if the crumbs are all you want, don't come into our restaurant.
alwaysan80sgal, Don Music WAS put into early retirement (i.e. the character WAS discontinued) AFTER Richard Hunt's death, BECAUSE kids would emulate Don's head banging, and it got certain organizations--i.e. the "soccer mom" ones that ruin quality entertainment--angry and as a result, Mr. Music was canned as a character.

What a shame! The whole reason why I remember this charactor is because he used to moan and bang his head!!! I'm just delighted to see this is all preserved where we can relive out past whenever we want...
The kids hurting themselves by banging their heads on pianos, walls, etc. is most likely nonsense. It's simple. Richard Hunt died. They couldn't find a suitable vocal replacement for Don Music. The baker films were not pulled because they terrified kids. They were pulled because they were dated by the 80s. I wish Sesame Workshop would tell the true stories instead of the nonsense that they put into fluff books like Sesame Unpaved
Does anyone have the one where Don Music was writing "Old MacDonald had a farm e-i-e-i-o, and on that farm he had a frog?" Of course the frog was Kermit, and he didn't seem too pleased about it. Anyone have that one?
You know what I think they should have done? I think they should of had the Gogolala Jubilee Jugband from the first season of the Muppet Show as the singers.
Does anyone have a video where he changed "Mary had a little lamb" to "Mary had a bicycle"? I had a tape with that one, but unfortunately we accidentally threw it away when we moved...
Actually, there's a book called Sesame Street: Unpaved where they wrote about all the characters that only were on for a short time, and that's what they said... that and the guy who laughed histerically got cut because it hurt Jim Henson's voice to laugh like that....

Notice that at one point Mr. Music actually comes up with the right word, but is so caught up in the argument that he fails to catch it.
