I hope you charge the company for that 1 hour of lunch if you are talking about your work. I'm serious. Don't let corporations make you work an hour for lunch if they don't want to charge it. If your company doesn't allow that 1 hour of lunch to be charge, go outside for 1 hour lunch in a restaurant.
@MomoTheBellyDancer Usually, the actual programming is done by employee's in countries such as India. Where for the price of one salary in the UK is the equivalent to 10 in India.
Awesome video. Thanks for sharing. I would love to do something similar to this but my team's bullpen isn't conducive to make the video worth watching. Agile rulz!
In spite of fear of feeding a troll, I'm gonna ask:
Why? I can only imagine your comment implies that you don't feel the team was worth paying for and I'm curious about what you see in the video makes you think that?
@zachgoestoeuro And that's likely why you're not managing or paying teams like these.
Software development is as much about conceptual organization and clarity as it is about pounding out line after line of code. The code gets really sloppy and unmanageable when everyone is working on their own without interaction.
The more productive teams I've been a part of would literally take Ping-Pong breaks to create mental space when tackling overly complex problems.
Hi Why! Thanks for the comment. That particular team worked pretty much without burnout for about 18 months while I was there, and continued to do so after my gig there was done.
Scrum (like any self-reflective, self-correcting process) provides several opportunities for, well, reflection and course correction. As long as a collective team is willing to be honest about the system, including the human elements therein, there's no reason a team should suffer burnout, at least unintentionally.
Ummmm.... if you moved your Daily Stand-Up Meeting to 9 am, you might be able to get people to show up for work BEFORE TEN O'CLOCK IN THE DAMMMM MORNING!!!!! :)
looks like you guys work pretty intensely. I've been trying to introduce scrum at my work... hard to get people interested in the pair programming and collocation. Cool to see it in action though... do you keep that pace the whole iteration? seems pretty intense.
Aye, that team has a great environment and a strong rapport. It makes for pretty intense and productive days. We of course have our down days, but this video is a pretty honest reflection of most days - gotta get the commitment done, after all :-)
As far as introducing scrum to new places, it's important to have strong buy in, especially among at least a core of the developers. Having an expert come in and help is a huge boon, as well. Best of luck, it's a great way to work :-)

Oh gosh, that's so damn distracting. I hate it when someone bleats in my ear while I try to solve a problem. It's extremely inefficient.

The question is how long can people work in the Scrum environment ? Seems to me that it is a sure fire way to burn out most participants.
