I wish I could help you brother. It just has to become a natural reflex type of thing. Rest assured with enough movement of your hand, over time, you will get it and all other strum patterns. I've been playing 10 years. How long you been playing?

Yeah, 7 months isn't long. I've been playing for about 8 years (check out my cover of In the Aeroplane over the sea.) It'll just come natural, kind of hit you one day like, oh that's how you do this? I don't suggest anything over basic chord lessons, if that's a path you're thinking about.
