I sort of just discovered that band, and was super excited and bought their cd. Must have listened to it 10 times in a row. I was excited and showed my family who usually has pretty good taste in music. Put on this song and a minute or two in my mom said she hated Marcus's voice. Felt like I was punched in the stomach, guess you can't win them all. But thanks Mumford and Sons, I am forever grateful for your music.
Many of us have moments, as we grow older, where we go from thinking "if my parents say it, it must be true" to "I've just realised my parents are idiots!" I know I've had mine... that's all I'm saying.
Okay I'm confused. In the recordings of Sigh no More I hear "Love will not betray you, dismay, or enslave you" but here I hear "Love it will not betray..." and on all of the lyric sites it's either, "Love will not betray..." "Love that will not betray..." or "Love it will not betray you..."
What the fuck. I engraved on my iPod "Love will not betray, dismay, or enslave you." Anything else wouldn't fit with or without the "it" or "you" so whatever lol But I'm still confused on these lyrics...
I pride my self in not having many regrets in my life. One of my biggest however is having the opportunity to see them before they were to big here in the US and letting it slip through my hands. now there sold out by the time I hear there coming to town. regardless this is my favorite song of your album, you guys freakin rock!
I am so infatuated with this band! I have never been really into music specifically (except for Elvis, can't resist him), never gone to gigs, festivals or what not. Think tickets cost way too much, live performances not being worth it.
But oh my, what I wouldn't give to see these guys live! They reach straight into my very being, their songs mesmerise me. Never would have thought music could do that to me.
@MLynnJo Great, another Elvis fan :D I wish M&S would add belt buckles to their online shop, so I could give my Elvis one a rest once in a while and wear theirs :)
wow i love Marcus. and Ben's voice is pretty amazing too. i love how close you are to him. i would die to have been there. they are all so talented and awesome. M&S you have my heart!
I would give my anthing and everything to see these boys live. Mister Banjo player needs to have a few babes and teach them a thing or two about the sstrings. Im sure I could assist him with that :)
These guys are great but to say they're the greatest is a lil far fetched. The avett brothers destroy these guys and as a matter of fact the avetts are prob a big influence to these guys. Just sayin
@toboein Maybe you're confusing acoustic with acapella... the fact that acoustic instruments are amplified by the microphones doesn't mean the performance is no longer acoustic (and that's an acoustic guitar, not an electric one).
ok so I have kind of a strange concept for you all.... they are most amazing singers/performers w/out the need for any electronic devices (BURN IN HELL AUTOTUNE) or taped music....that is PURE 100% TALENT!!!!!!!! Which makes them just the best.. Ever. Period.
Thank you Mumford and Sons. Simply my favourite song. Perfectly structured and always performed with a passion that cannot be matched. Oh and of course the best line ever written, Man is a giddy thing.
Just saw them in NYC and it was amazing. So weird knowing I was literally able to grab his leg if I wanted to. HAHA! Also funny that theyre using the same instruments. So good!
When they begin the build in the lyric "Love that will not betray you, dismay or enslave you it will set you free.." I have this huge desire to dance. People must think I'm loco when they see me in my car, but I can't help it. It is so good!
i live in sweden so it took a little longer time for them to come here but when i first heard them it was like "This is it! This is the music I've been wating for my whole life" ;-)

...could someone please explain the song's meaning to me as I'm still clueless. Judging by the comments, it means a lot to people so I would appreciate it.
To those who replied to my comment: What I wrote was merely my view of the song and was not intended to offend anyone so sincere apologies if I did. Yes, you are right that I am ignorant in not knowing that the words are from Shakespeare's Much Ado about Nothing but coming from a family of musicians and being a lover of classical, choral and many other types of music, I'm not sure that I can be classed as not being able to understand good music (and reporting it as spam seemed a little OTT).
Don't worry, you don't appear rude, just ignorant. "Man is a giddy thing" is from Shakespeare (an English poet and playwright). I happen to think this song is awesome, but I imagine the songs you write must be a lot better.
@TheNannylauren your knowledge for good music with heart and passion is quite dismal. you dont understand it because YOU cant. learn to appreciate good music.
@TheNannylauren I find that opinion confusing. You speak of man as a creation, which implies that you believe there is a Creator--something you and I have in common. What confuses me is that this song is packed with truth and you think it's boring and senseless. Man IS a giddy thing. Think about what "giddy" means. Also, seeing "the beauty of love as it was made to be" is probably THE key idea in Christianity, a creationist worldview. That line is sung with dynamics for emphasis. Not tunelessly.
I absolutely love this band, album and song! I agree with the comments, this is one of the best albums I have bought in a long time. I am sooooo choked I missed them in Vancouver and not seeing them in europe this summer. LOVE Mumford & Sons.
There's a certain breed of musician that don't come around very often, but when they do, they go on to be so amazing. They don't make the mainstream charts, but their music is so much better. Mumford and Sons are one of these types. They fit together perfectly and show emotion in their music through their harmonies.
Every once in a while, there comes a song that for whatever reason strikes you and resonates with you, that you end up listening to on repeat for days on end.
I am a prisoner of their music! What an incredibly gifted band! Can't get enough of them. They just lift my spirits like no other music - what a blast.
I just watched the movie adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing...had to look this up. :) brilliant.

There's a certain breed of musician that don't come around very often, but when they do, they go on to be so amazing. They don't make the mainstream charts, but their music is so much better. Mumford and Sons are one of these types. They fit together perfectly and show emotion in their music through their harmonies.

This is so fucking fantastic.
Every once in a while, there comes a song that for whatever reason strikes you and resonates with you, that you end up listening to on repeat for days on end.
This is one of those songs.
