It's a pity some of the earlier characters like waku and kako were not developed as much. You can see the remaining characters change little by little affected by each comrade's passing. Some of the children grew up really fast and some cracked under the strain. Some like Daiichi were already adults.
Actually this is fairly typical of what i call the sakura-ga-chiriyuku type stories.
(Don't know what they actually call it).
They show you the end so you can get it out of your system, they want you to enjoy the bloom of each flower knowing that each flower's end is inevitable.
I did not really like the end of the anime. Not much twist after all, it was to expect they all win in the end. (and die)
In the middel, when they were in another world the first time and found out they delete other worlds, that was pretty cool. could have done more of that.
@nuneq The whole idea was the journey not the end. Considering the protagonists (and I assume the readers of the manga) are all middle schoolers, I wonder if 13 - 15 year olds can understand some of the rather complex issues dealt with here...
@janinenunez123456 Watched this entire thing over the weekend, shead not a single tear. I'm not heartless either, just kind of immune to stuff like this.
ehh fafner in the azure wasnt bad..but it reminded me too much of evangelion so i didnt really react taht much...very nice series but i think it could have been a more amazing ending
I cried more in this anime then I did when I watched Fafner in the Azure which is very similar to this. Kids fighting in robots to save the Earth, the kids dyeing because they fought, and the world being destroyed if they lose, but this made you love almost everyone with backstory and character personalities.
@vaaam9 He's complaining about this ending, as I feel like doing. It would have been better if it had been a real game, and at the end you wake up to Kokopeli in your face saying you've been had with this very realistic game. Then, letting Kokopeli busy himself with finding out how to pull the contract platform out of his butthole, they all head out of the cave towards the horizon kicking machi down the street for wetting the fire crackers. The end! what a waste of story. もったいないね~?
I personally didn't like the anime as much as the manga. I heard the director of the anime didn't like the original manga... so why did he make the anime? I think they just should have stuck with the original storyline... Anyways, the anime is still good, it evoked emotion and had some good parts, but for those who just watched the anime, I recommend the manga for ya. The characters seem a little bit more developed and its more psychological.
Every single episode got me to tear after the first battle. I love Kana for telling Daichi's younger siblings the real story. So surprised to see them there lol.

Man, how depressing. Since the episode where the kids learned that they were killing other humans I started to cry while watching the episodes after that. This is an amazing anime, I'm so sad it's over and that Jun had to die.
