  • so i left my computer on all night like usual. but this time there was a black screen saying

"Remove disks or other media.Press any key to restart."

every time i restart it says the same thing

do i need to re-install windows?

  • HI TEKANY!

I have dell gx270 i had lost my windows xp cd but i have original keys and will u help me how can i get it again my pc window is showing problems i want to change it but i lost my cd :( plz help me.......

  • @01sean you could but there will be Dell files. And you would also need a product key witch you probably have.

  • last night when i install windowns xp pro on my laptop now everything is too big.

  • @Booboo201999a Install the video drivers and then right click on the desktop to set the dimensions. The video drivers are either on discs you received from Dell or on their website (search for drivers using your computer version or the Service Tag).

  • i reformat my husband's dell laptop after all the procedure has done and the windows xp appear i checked the network connections but LAN does not appear.what will i do pleasehelp me i cant browse to the internet .

  • @rosspaz1999 You need to add the driver for the LAN manually. If you have your original drivers disc, just install the drivers it knows work on that machine. If you don't, you'll need to go online and download the LAN drivers for that device.

Dell => Drivers and Suppoer => Choose your computer make/model or Service ID.

  • hello can you please help i have come to the part where you need to install the drivers to go on the internet.

I have tried to install the wi-fi option but when i unzip it it comes up with all these files and i click on one of them and it says "//??????????????????????????xp????????????"

please help overwize i wont be able to go on the internet.

  • You Must Be Administrator :) Make sure you are before you start trying to install stuff. If it's XP you were asked to create an administrator password when you reinstalled and you'll need that password and log in as administrator.

@TutorialGuyOfficial OK, so you need to make sure you've got the "official driver" and if that means you're going to get the Dell drivers then get them and uncompress them. You'll need a zip tool most likely. Sometimes they're self-extracting executables.

  • @tekany i am the administrator. i think i have solved the problem in that i need a wireless nework card to place into my computer.

this computer never has being wireless so i think that is all it needs . am i correct?

  • @TutorialGuyOfficial I sure hope you got this handled without me :) Anyway, If I understand correctly you needed to install the driver and a third party was likely involved - so their website or a quick google search for the driver should have resolved your problem.

Sorry I took so long to come back around.

  • my driver wont install corectly

  • please help me it sayys that i can not copy file :wmiprop.dll

  • ok...so I finally got my comp to get to the blue screen where it says Windows Setup, then on the bottom it says ...Setup is loading files (Windows Executive).... and it's been like this for quite a while. I know u said it takes long hopefully it will work...ps I don't hear the cd running anymore is it stuck or it's doing it's job loading the files? ugghh I tried all day yesterday and it didn't work seemed that it froze on me or something.

  • It's possible it's stuck.

If you give it more than an hour w/ no activity, there's something wrong. It may be an error it's just now sharing. XP install isn't the most verbose.

  • Hey if I want to re-install XP because of a virus do I have to backup all my saved files and documents or do they stay on the hard drive if I re-install it? and is there any way to get rid of a virus other than using avast? Avast told me it was a boot sector visur and when i tried to delete it it says "an error occured while trying to delete" so i don't know what to do, but I have a lot of music so I don't wanna have to back it all up

  • I don't remember answering - and if not, sorry. No, Windows screws that stuff up on a reinstall. Sure, makes sense they'd leave well enough alone. But, they don't.

And, while we're at it, the way infections work you wouldn't want to leave data laying around on the drive. Obviously your antivirus can't detect what's good and bad. Your best option is to just format the drive, scan the data files you back up from a clean functional system, and hope none of them are the problem.

    Good luck :)

  • thanks dude it helps a lot

  • you are a good friend!!

  • umm hey i need help i want to install windows right i know how to but i computer is intel................i took my old hardrive of 250gb and iserted it in and i teried to install windows but i dont know how to start the set up i mean nothing shows upjust dell thing

  • Look for a boot menu option.

If it's a Dell, what version of a Dell is it?

  • when it restarts do i take the disk out or leave it and also when i delete the partions and the unpartion one is left can i just hit enter to format or do I have to push c first

  • thanks man...this really helped a lot...appreciate it :)

  • Can i use this dell xp pro sp3 cd on a DIY pc ?

  • Should be able to use pretty much any XP Pro CD on any PC, so long as it's a full blown install CD and not an image for a given branded PC.

  • dude i don't have f6

  • Hit whatever key the computer tells you is required.

  • there is no key for that

  • What language is your keyboard?

  • english only f3 enter and esc appear only 3 things

  • if i want to use install then r to repair instead of fresh copy do i need the drivers

  • You need to gather your drivers before you get started. It is possible that you won't need them. Sometimes you will need them. Plan for that eventuality.

  • hey were can i get the third party stuff for the reinstallation because i do the restallation and everything but when i have to choose something cant move mouse or use keyboard

  • mrspittmon..... i need a bit more information ....... does the installation have issues or booting windows xp pro?

(sorry for bad enlish, i'm dutch) :)

  • Every OS needs drivers for the equipment you're running. If you run the OS that came with the system, or one they sell with the system, I've never had problems reloading a consumer PC.

Their PowerEdge servers are a completely different issue altogether.

  • I am trying to upgrade my computer from XP Home to XP Pro. I get about

halfway through the installation and then the following error message pops

up. "The file VIAAGP1.SYS on VIA AGP Filter Driver Disk is needed" There is

an option to browse for the file but I can't select this becuase my keyboard

and mouse will not work. I am basically stuck. All I can do is turn on my computer to have it

freeze during installation. I really need some help!

  • Thanks for posting this. Can not see much of what is on screen but you seem to cover it well and gave me something new to try that I have not yet.
