  • This car is almost redlining. My 4 cyl 2004 Malibu only revs up to 3000 rpms on hard acceleration.

  • everyone should stop being wankers and buy cars with manual transmissions. More fuel efficient, safer in slippery conditions and saves you loads of money on the brakes you'll be slamming to slow down a car with an auto transmission. Don't be shy.

  • @tdub01 Manual transmissions are not ALWAYS more fuel efficient. And in the hands of a good driver, any car can be deadly, or safe, it just depends on how you drive. And it's cheaper to replace breaks than to replace or fix a transmission from engine braking. Plus, if you don't drive like a maniac, you won't be "slamming" on your brakes.

  • @CarbineGuy Fusion SE 6spd manual is rated 22-29 and the SE 6spd auto is rated 23-33 MPG. So that kinda proves your case.

  • I forgot to mention that on my mothers fusion, her transmission seems to pull back some in 1st and 2nd gear. Does yours do that? Like it shifts with a jerk. It's fine in the other gears and the dealer just re programed it it make it better, guess there were customer complaints with the 6 speed auto and 4cyl. :)

  • Well the 6spd auto in general, the issues lied in the 6spd I4 and V6. I know that feeling your talking about, our car does ANYTIME the car has sat overnight and cooled off, is that when your mom's does it too?

  • @gusherb94 It does it when it's cool or hot. It's pretty much smooth and drives normaly. Just noticed it when she first bought the car and re-programing it didn't make much of a difference. Probably just the way it was made. My 99 Escort has issues with it's tranny, with overheating fluid. I noticed the Fusion has grey fluid, compared to the escorts red fluid.

  • Really it does it when it's hot too, does the shifting feel slow when it's hot? and can you sorta feel the changes?

  • @gusherb94 Yes, and you can feel the first 3 gears change. The fluid is dark grey with black in it. A ford tech. said that the new fluid they're using is having in issue with going bad. There's also been issues were the car won't start. It tries, but you have to turn the key back off, then start it again it it's fine

  • @giannial1985 Yeah I got the starter fixed or some part of the start was replaced and then they added a new part to it. Also my gears would kind of stutter but they also fixed that after I got a recall letter

  • @gusherb94 Is there any fix to the auto trans problems? my 2010 ford fusion se does the same thing. A rough 1-2 shift when cold, but after i drive around for a bit it smoothes out. I really dont wanna have to trade away my fusion and buy an Impreza, but if the dealer refuses to acknowledge the problem then i will be forced to. Will they fix it if I bring it in? or have they even been able to successfully fix the problem? any feedback is much appreciated =)

  • @AK907ALASKA If it's just a rough 1-2 shift when it's cold, as in that's your ONLY issue, then I don't think there's anything you could do about it and it causes no harm anyway. When you start hearing things like slips between gears and lose power to the wheels when you step on it, THEN you know you got an issue.

  • @AK907ALASKA Its probably just because the transmission is cold. its stiff in the cold. Just dont drive it hard or accelerate fast. Driving easy while the engine is still cold will also prolong the life of the car.

  • @giannial1985 My grandpa's does that too.

  • @giannial1985 My 2006 ford fusion v6 does that to.

  • Wow, that engine is really working hard to make the power though. The RPMs are always hitting the red line.

Does it feel like it's struggling? Do you ever have a fully loaded trunk and if so, how does the power feel then?

  • It doesn't feel like it's struggling at all, it feels adequately powerful but it just has to rev high to make that power - inherent with all I4's.

  • Just test drove Se 4cyl. auto. Very nice ride. Seems just as powerful as my current V6 car.

  • What kind of car is your current V6 car?

  • An '01 Mercury Sable with the Duratec

  • The Duratec with the 4spd is still a bit faster than the I4 2010 Fusion. With the 2010 Fusion I4 6spd auto it definitely would feel about the same as what you currently have. You might also want to test drive the 3.0 V6 Fusion, the 3.0 Duratec has come a long way since your Sable, the 6spd auto makes it a dream to drive. Also you might desire the V6 if you like or are used to always having low end power, or do a fair amount of highway driving.

  • The 4cyl is actually pretty quick. It takes off on me when I drive my mom's, lol

  • It's the 2nd quickest 4cyl I've ever driven, it's only behind a 2009 VW Jetta Wolfsburg for me. Those have 200 HP and 207 Ib Ft.

  • @gusherb94 That's true and Consumer reports and consumer guide think the fusion's 4cyl is noisy. But I feel the engine noise levels are the same as the camry and accord. I think the fusions sounds sporty :). If they want a noisy 4cyl, try my 99 escort, lol

  • When it comes to noise and refinement level's then it starts becoming subjective to each individual... I know what a REALLY quiet car is and I still think our Fusion is pretty quiet overall, the 3.0 V6 is for the most part quiet enough from the inside. If you've ever heard a 2010 Fusion V6 they tend to have pretty loud exhausts for stock. The I4 Fusion I drove wasn't that loud and it was very quiet at low RPM's, it was alot smoother than it's predecessor as well the 2.3 I4.

  • Nice Car! I ordered an SE Monochrome package with the 6spd manual black on black. Cant wait to get it!
