  • Yo Ivan, can You make a tutorial on how to do it yourself fade video or reply back to this comment. I learning to cut my own hair so I don't have to waste parent's money to go to the barber all the time. btw, Sorry I don't have a Andis clipper. I only have a Home product Wahl Clippers - Guards #1-8. Which clipper do I use to fade the sideburns? PLEASE REPLY BACK QUICK!!!!

  • @REDSCOUT3 I do not do a lot of do your own head videos... mostly teaching ppl to do others. Check out self-cut systems... tons of stuff for you there.

    Ivan

  • good video but, what size of a blade are you using and when you put that guard on what size is that guard?

  • @vmawreckingcrew 000 blade ... #1 guard. Ivan

  • You`d crap yourself if I showed you how a real fade is done. That dude looks like hes wearing a hat... fading should be a smooth transition and not bulky.

CON`S SEEN BETTER....PRO`S WHITE BLENDING COMB ON DARK HAIR DOES HELP..

  • "White comb, dark hair". Dat be raysis!

  • nice fade. you should have been my barber when i was in the marine corps.

  • @tactical321 TY! Ivan

  • You are awesome ! i'm a licensed cosmetologist and i want to have more men as clients , but i'm scared to death of fades. Anyhow i'm going to subscribe and practice on a doll head. You're the bomb !

  • @missbish TY Go for it! It is fun and easy. let me know how I can help.

    Ivan

  • I´ve been watching many videos about how to do a fade and this is the most helpful and efficient technique I´d say! tnx!

  • @ytbonbon TY!!! Ivan

  • Why would you let a white guy cut your hair! O__O He made him look like wesley snipes in blade. His friends, family, and girl will be clowning him for a week.

  • Look at the girl with the glasses in the mirror at 2:05

  • i thought it was a great video. he was on point. who cares if Ivan is white..lmao...its the same crap i got in beauty school as the little blonde white girl. funny they ended up my regular clients. hair is hair. as for his flat top who cares if its outdated to you. its clean and hes well groomed and thats what u should look for. thanks again...from a hairdresser

  • Hi, I have never even used a set of clippers before(or cut anything more than my bangs) and I just cut my boyfriends hair- his hair has a bit of curl and is really fine. Also a huge whirl in the back. We were both surprised at how good it turned out. I used this technique with the clippers against a comb for the angle. I was scared to use just the clippers. It was the same technique with just an extra safety guard! He wants me to cut it from now on. Thanks so much for the excellent video!!

  • @tropicaljosiah im trying this cut this weekend with husband. i dont want his to be nearly as short just blended from top to sides. hopefully ours will turn out good too.

  • I wish I had someone to try this technique on! Im scared of trying it on a client at work! Lol

  • @clipperguysays thanks for fucking posting this man. I watched like 4 different videos of hw to cut a fade hair cut. And i ahve to say this strategy is way better thanks

  • @YSKWeXclusive U R welcome!!! Ivan

  • Would you recommend beginners to try this method?

  • wow , what a crapppppy fade !!

  • I'm sorry, I don't understand what you were doing with the shroud. Great video! Thanks

  • HI! Using your tutorial I was able to cut my husband's hair without lines in his head! I've struggle with that before and now it looks pretty good!

I did do his a bit differently: I used 1/8" on the lower half and for the angled blend (which I did first) and then a 1/4" for the top. It came out pretty good!

BTW, the baseball demo was really helpful!

    Thanks a million!

(ps the real test will be when he goes to work tomorrow)

  • @grammarnazi2009 !!! Thank you. Gald you liked it! Ivan

  • @clipperguysays His coworkers said it looked great and he's been admiring it all day. Your tutorial really helped!

    Thanks again! :)

  • I wonder if that was a random customer who volunteered. Great fade xD

  • he black you cant even see the hair line

  • Yes but this wouldnt work nearly as good on European hair types or any other for that matter...

  • @deftonesfan192 ... actually... works great on ANY texture... Ivan

  • I'm a woman, and everytime I go in to do my hair or get my kids' hair cut I always look at the hairdressers own hair... and by looking at your own haircut I can tell you that you wouldn't be giving anyone of my family members a cut... flat top haircuts left long ago lol.

  • That fade looks way way wayyy too blocky. I know that home boy didn't like that cracker cutting his hair... He's gotta have another brotha cut his hair.

  • this shit is informative but the quality is garbage.....hard to see whats goin on...

  • holy crap poor guy thats a digusting fade

  • I have never seen any barber use this technique.... thats crazy bro respect... did it fast too w/ quality

  • @SHOOKEDsoul2 ... Thank you!

    Ivan

  • HEY I GOT SOME OSTER 76 CLASSIC HAIR CLIPPERS ON SALE ON EBAY...CHECK MY VIDEO OUT ON MY YOUTUBE PAGE...

  • Oster fast feed vs Classic 76 vs Powerline

which is better and what works the best

    i got money

  • @mediumrarekrew BGRc!!!... MVP... Sonic+!!!

  • stop reapiting the steps pendejo

  • @TheSnake609 I repeat them so you will remember them!

  • They call it the 4 minute fade do they? But this vid is 6:29 WITH editing. Hmmmm

And out of interest Ivan who blended in your hair, because to be honest, its not the greatest.

  • @bigderekkeene More talking than cutting... it is a demo! :)

    Ivan

  • I love this video. I cut my 8 year old son's hair. But my only claim to fame was the #1 all over or "The Obama" as we call it. Cute, tidy, not so creative. Fade was obvious next step for my novice repertoire. Amazingly, I was able to produce a reasonably good fade minutes after watching the video. Excellent instructions. Thanks for making it easy for a novice. He's wanting a mohawk next. Got any tips on cool mohawk strategies using clippers?

  • In South Florida we call that type of hair cut a "Zeek" . No head is in the shape of a baseball, you arent taking creases and shapes into consideration, if you are going to teach something at least show how to do it the right way. Garbage

  • @NovemberBarber hahahaha damn right bruh in broward thts a big ass zeek.. lame ass fade lol

  • dang man i dont know his joint looks horrible! the puffy donald duck head fade looks eat the way he's saying it but i dont know i been getting fades for 16 yrs and i live in 3 different states and so i dont know on that joint dont look like a fade at all just looks like the street fighter guile marine chop

  • Hey Ivan! Much respect to you I've learned almost everything I know from you! I can take a clipper apart and put it back together! All my products are from andis! This is a very great technique but is it possible for you to make a video doing a bald fade with a #2 (1/4). I'm from Chicago and we like our cuts to be tight! Razor blade tight! I even use the andis electric shaver for bald fades leaving the client really smooth. I have my hair cuts pretty much pack down but am eager to learn more!!

  • yo clipper guy what type of clippers are u using.....?

  • Wow! That was a great technique/method to watch. I often wondered how these fades are created. They look scary to do. I always thought they were done with scissor over comb and imagined they'd take forever. I'd worry that I'd taken too much off when the head looks so bald. It must be that the client clearly knows what they want doing. I wonder how they ask for this if their hair is fairly long. I imagine this could be a bit of a shock even to them with such a change. How do you prepare/warn them

  • this guy needs t slow down

  • lol that guy was so happy a black guy went to his barbershop he made a video ahahah

  • elpelon83 was funny!he proberly will go to a black barber lol

  • the costumer is like: next time i´ll go to a black baber ¬¬

  • This is a lot easier to do on afros...especially big afros

  • can u do a video or give some tips on how to trim down a medium sized afro pls respond and let me kno

  • My hair doesn't work like that I have to go with the grain or it makes patches. What do you suspect I'm doing wrong?

  • @Clueless41 Likely nothing you are doing wrong... if your hair is textured... pick it out well... if straight, gel and a blow dryer to get it up and off the head... first...

  • I've used the same method-takes a little common sense + creativity

  • does this work only for bald fades or can you cut sideways with guards on straight hair also

  • @ghjmnpqrt as long as it is short, will not work well above a #2 guard (1/4")

  • he doesn't seem tooo excited

  • How would you use that technique to cut a bald fade with a one on top?

  • Cut the top first.... and down the sides with the #1... The go sideways with the 000 blade.

    TY

    CG

  • Their is really no correct technique to cutting a fade. But in my opinion this way doesn't give you that fully blended look. You can still see the line. Yes it's faster but if you take the time to do it "harder" way as you called it I think you get a better fade.

  • i was in your class today in orlando and i felt like checking out your video... the technique is good but u could still see the line

  • I know the res on the vid is poor... our newer oens are much better...

  • if you look to the right at 4:47...the dude poppin his head through looks like vinny from jersey shore

  • i got the blending part. i usually do bald fades but i have a problem when it comes to step #3 when i have to blend the top. For example if somebody wants a 3 on top and bald on the side what # guards do you use and do you still use the clipper over comb technique?

  • use a #2 and a #1, and a #0 and the adj lever on the clipper...

  • what if thier head is square?dduurr

  • Some heads are... just modify your technique...

  • Not funny... I have seen square ones... not easy!

    :)

  • boi yo shit is fucked UP playa in AUSTIN WE CALL DAT A CHILIBOWL WE STILL SEE THE LINE... THE HAIR ON TOP TOO LONG NEED TO TAKE IT DOWN A LIL BIT NUM TALKIN BOUT!!!

  • Please post all comments in English.

    TY

    CG

  • lol

  • nah its a high top fool

  • @wutitdewtexas its a chilli in columbus too

  • I am a professional barber and I think this technique works great, mainly because I have used it before. So stop giving CG a hard time!

  • TY CG

  • you should mention that this technique only works on a fade with a long level on top. i myself have never tried this technique before but it does look pretty helpful, one thing i did notice is that you got rid of the bottom section with a clipper instead of a trimmer so im guessing there was still some short but visible hair on the sides, that could have been lined up as well.

  • ...actually this technique works with any length... and frankly works best at SHORTER lengths on top. This is not presented as a bald fade, so, yes, there is still some visible length on the bottom. No, just beacuse there is some length does NOT mean a line-up is REQUIRED... fading in the edges without a line is a legitimate "style option". Not every haircut is to be created the same. Avoid cookie cutter work...

    Thank you for your input.

  • Hmm I would be very impressed to see a video of you applying such technique on a fade with a wavy level 1 on top. I know not every haircut needs to look the same but in no moment I heard you u say that you would fade the edges, which in fact is a style I love doing on my customers my self..I just find your tutorial is awsome but for a home made cut..by this in no way Im trying to call you an amateur, I'm refering to the tutorial only

  • Hey, we cool. I appreciate all comments and alterante perspectives. I do not put this or any technique out there as the best or only way... just an approach... I do believe that this sideways strike is a very good way to lesses the need for heavy blending work and make the entire process easier for many cutters.Limits on quality and time... I can not show everything... but we try. More to come to be sure. BTW, like your screen name...

  • Love the sarcasm on your comment about my screen name. No, I don't get high on aerosol if that's what you are thinking. Guess what, I'm not only a barber I'm also a graffiti artist that should explain my nickname hope u make the relation..

  • Dude, no sarcasm. I thought it a reference to hair spray as you are in the hair biz... really thought it cool... but w/ the grafitti, I get that too.

    peace.

    Ivan

  • oh haha my bad..never thought of the name from that perspective..i guess i have 2 meanings for it now. thx!

  • it always baffled me on how to do an afro taper, this video helped me out alot. Now i just need some1 to practice on thanks!

  • The instruction is great. The video quality is very poor.... Which cam are you using? The lighting also needs some work....

  • Shouldn't you ask the customer where he wants his fade point?

  • of course you should. That is part of the consultation. When I say, pick your fade point I do not mean to imply that the haircutter makes this decision w/o input from the customer. Sorry if that was not clear.

    CG

  • I have never cut hair before in my entire life. Today my fiance was trimming his beard and asked me to outline around the nape and the sides.. Then he proposed that I cut his hair so I came online and watched this video than cut his hair, for the first time in my life! It was a success and he is SO enthused that his girl knows how to cut hair now and that he doesn't have to go pay a barber anymore. THANKS FOR THE VID, IT TOTALLY HELPED!

  • Kool!!! Thank you for sharing your success with us!

    CG

  • THAT SHIT IS FUCKING CLEAN

  • good video

  • its pretty fast but you still need to blend a little more. its not perfect yet. remember its not about spend its about perfection. No real barber cut this way.

  • Many of us cut this way all the time... many use other techniques... that is what it is all about!TY

    Ivan

  • I'm wondering do these rules apply to white people hair?

  • thank u ....that fade wus not finished

  • Even though I am the king of speed (see page 89, 2010 Guinness Book of World records). I do realize that quality reigns supreme... Do not cut it fast if you can not cut it right!

    CG

  • lol do you know how fucking much time that knocks off ya cut lmao thanks ivan you deserve 1000x "at-a-boy"

  • nice trick...i was going to do the whole line thing, but since i saw this video i guess there is no need for that...nice technique.

  • which clipper you recomend

  • i have a fade master but its too heavy.

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks this helped me do my husbands and sons hair!!!!!

  • Hey Ivan loe your videos I just bought an andis master and an andis T outliner and love them. Quick question will this technique work say if the person doesnt want a bald fade?I.E. if you start your line with a 1 clip or 2 clip. Thanks for the vids.....Wahl STINKS lol

  • hi ivan

what clipper attahment are you using go over the head please

    thank

    cemile

  • Blade w no attachemnt for side line... #1 or #0 for blending later.

    TY

    Ivan

  • Top was cut clipper-over-comb. Little blending as needed was done with 0 and #1 guard (1/16" and 1/8").

    TY

    Ivan

  • Any blade, any length.

  • what type of clippers where used 4 this fade? also whats the best andis clippers for beard trims, beard lining ,etc,

    do u work 4 andis? if u don't u should, great video

  • That is an Andis SpeedMaster II... NEW from Andis.

Yes. I work for Andis. I am Director of Education and Training for the company. I have been doing education for Andis for nearly 20 years.

  • Sorry, but he look like he goin to Iraq, when he should be goin to the club. From a real black man, you need more of a transition buddy....

  • Lots of different ways to fade and lots of lengths and textures to do it to... This is intended to show the technique... and it does it well... Ty for your enthusiasm!

    Ivan

  • I dig what you're saying cat daddy, I used this technique but I blended the fade (like black folks are supposed to) and it came out "on point". The method is a real good method but it just needs a little "black magic" added to it. You feel me.

  • I feel you!

    :)

  • I gotta give it to you, it was a nice fade. The fact that it took virtually no time at all makes me think that I could do it, but I already know pros know how to make it look easy.

  • Try it... it is as easy as it looks!

    TY

    Ivan

  • I tried the method, on my two kids, and you know what.... IT WORKED! (you need a raise). My wife normally will give me a compliment on someting and end it with a "that looks good, but..." This time is was just "that looks good, probably one of the best." (period) So I know it looked good. (even if I do say so myself). Thanks, I owe you one

  • great job..fade also been a up and down process for me..I can cut others well, but when it comes to me..it's up and down..any tips? normally just me and a hand mirror in the bathroom.

  • very good instructions my man, i will definitely try this type of fade out

  • Yes... No up and down... SIDEWAYS!

    TY

    Ivan

  • The fade has been my downfall as a barber for some reason. will this technique work on tight fades like a #2 skin fade?

  • Yup... works just fine.

    Ivan

  • your the man keep it up buddy

  • Oh man, Ivan I wish I was there that day, was this on New Years Eve? I think I left early that day. It's always a pleasure when you come visit us at the Arlington Campus!

  • The comb color too, FAB-U-LOUS, I have struggled to see black hair in a black comb, DUH! it never crossed my mind to get white combs. Thanks for the ideas. And to make these for our viewing for free is really commendable and I truly appreciate it. Thanks again. I am now going to watch all your videos-I hope you don't have too many or I'll be up all night!

    :)

  • You are very welcome!

Happy to help. Stay tuned for more.

    ClipperGuy

  • Your are awesome. I am 42 and graduated cosmetology school less than 2 years ago. I have felt that I am behind the eight ball starting a new career so late in life. I feel that I have to rush to soak up information to compete with younger more experienced stylists. To get this this useful, helpful information so early in my career is remarkable. What a smart idea. It seems so simple yet no one thought of it.

  • you the man ivan nice vid

  • Will the "side-ways" technique work when the length of hair is very short? If not, do I need the Andis Fade Masters to pull it off?

  • Will work on any length... you are using the curve of the head to assist you in fading at any desired finished length... I have done it with a T-Outliner trimmer for super close blad fading... A Fademaster will provide a faded length proportuional to the thickness of the blade and the position of the adjustment... your choice...

    TY

    ClipperGuy

  • Wow Ivan Zoot 400 views it one day i think you find what videos you need to make on youtube .

  • I do take requests!

    TY

  • beautiful!

  • hey what guard did u use to take off the line

  • Because of the angle of the clipper for the stripe what little line there was is longer in length... the real faded portion was good right away. For the higher blending I used a #1 guard with the clipper blade adjusted closed.

  • I hope I am getting better at this!

    TY

    ClipperGuy

    :)

  • Hey Ivan this is one of the best videos you have made! Thanks alot. I like this way too
