This is only half the story. For people to truly understand this disease, they have to see beyond the memory lapses and behavioral issues. They have to see what happens during end-stage Alzheimer's.
What cause it it's in the food looks like the rice and lookup the label and look for if it has sodium nitrates .that's is then main cause of Alzheimer.
@BOBMATIONproductions Almost none.....zero prevention, zero cure, and nothing to slow its progress...all they can do is treat the depression that usually comes along with it
There are several different types. There are acetylcholinesterase inhibitors like Aricept and Exelon; there are NMDA inhibitors like Namenda. There is nothing new, specifically, that I know of in the drug development "pipeline". Several other types of drugs like antidepressants and antipsychotics are used "off label" to either treat Alzheimer's or address the behavioral problems associated with it. Doctor in Florida.
I'm 14 and have been losing my memory all the time, I have completely forgot what I am studying for exams, forgetting what is going on in my life, I know I wouldn't have Alzheimer's but is there anything else?
i'm scared that i got alzheimers or something like that because i'm for getting more and more and the worst thing is that i'm 18 and no i'm not trying to be offensive
@bambinosto It's impossible to get Alzheimers at 18. But if you're truly worried, take coconut oil.. It seriously works. It's incredibly amazing. My mother has Alzheimers so I know it works.
@bambinosto I wouldn't worry too much. It is vitually impossible for you to get AD at your age. Don't woory about taking remedies like "coconut oil". If you're getting fogetful it may just be that (like everyone else) you've always been like that but you're noticing it now and scaring yourself over having AD. Make sure you stay hydrated, get enough sleep and try to eat well, also take into account stress can affect memory sometimes. If you're really anxious, talk to someone, 99.9% it's nothing.

@TileSpin you are absolutely right....the elderly have to keep their minds active...even if it's watching TV. Another thing is you have to make sure their hearing and vision is checked......they have to wear their hearing aids and a proper eyeglass prescription. Not being able to hear or see well isolates the brain and causes their condition to get worse
I just wanted to know, does this sickness is same as it's shown in movies, like person is saying something, but hes wrong and other people try to tell that to him, but he thinks he' right and he starts to violente?
my moms side of the famaly all have alzheimers and she is starting to forget things and how to do things and she is only in her 50's i hope its not alzheimers..
My grandma's suffering from it since 2006. At first she only had trouble speaking, she couldn't remember the words, but then it got worse. Now, apart from only knowing words like "and", "but" and "beautiful" she can't remember things happening the day before, she can't dress up by herself, she can't go to the toilet alone, she thinks she has a brother while she actually has a sister, she doesn't know my name, heck she doesn't know her own name. It's so sad to see her like this. :(
My Step grandpa did literally everything he could to take care of my gramma but now she has to be in a home with a feeding tube because her tongue doesn't work anymore. When I said he literally did everything for her, i meant that about 40 to 50 years ago, he even helped build the care home she is in right now. It's amazing how much he did and I will always be thankful for that but sometimes all you can do is give her away to a home and watch her slowly fade away.
my Uncle had Alzheimer's and just passed away last night.. :( he rarely slept, stopped eating towards the end, memory was totally gone, would remember/recognize my father for a quick second and that was it, for the past year and half he thought he was being followed by the FBI, he would fold a blanket over and over, he would take showers almost every 30mins, and was down to about 80lbs from 150lbs...

@chrssfalls8 about your comment about your dad. At 57 it is pretty common to forget little things like...where you put your keys or where you put your eye glasses. You have to start worring if your dad starts saying very odd things.....like saying he got a phone call the other day from someone who you know to be dead for many years.....or gets lost when he is only a few blocks from home......or thinks they are talking about him on the TV or radio
Let your grandmother do Calculas and mathematical problem solving. She shall soon be fixed in no time! Also logical puzzels, anything related to making the brain THINK makes you better. This was free advise no need for a shrink.
A while ago, just before the death of my grandfather (he actually died of a stroke at one of my cousin's hockey games that led to a coma), I was talking to him on the phone and halfway through the conversation he forgot who I was and thought I was some random girl (I'm a guy). Such a tragic condition but unfortunately it is difficult control. To all those suffering or know a friend or family member who has fallen prey to this, may peace and love be with you and guide your soul through eternity.
My father passed away almost a year ago from Alzheimer's, it's a terrible terrible disease, when we first started suspecting something was wrong was when my father started having complications in doing everyday tasks, it was really heartbreaking to find out that he had Alzheimer's, we suffered as much as he did because it's really hard seeing as his illness progressed, to those familys taking care of an Alzheimer's patient I can only say try to always show as much love as you can till the end.
I worked as a nurse for a home care service. We had patients with all kind of diseases. Of course Alzheimer is one of the worst but I would prefer to get Alzheimer in my 70s or 80s instead of getting MS or cancer now. I'm only 32 with lots of plans.
I was working and taking care of my Mother with Alzheimer's Disease. I found a wonderful local Day Care program for her. She truly enjoyed it and I was confident that she was being well cared for and truly enjoying the company of others with early stage Alzheimer's. Be sure to check out the programs, the first one she went to consisted of feeding them lunch and turning the TV on all day.
my great aunt suffered with alzheimer's she couldnt remember her own sister or anybody it was bad then she died when a flu whent threw the nursing home R.I.P. aunt henny her sister who was my grandma died april 23rd the doctors think she had a bit alzheimers as well R.I.P. Nan we miss you greatly
My grandfather was diagnosed with stage 6 alzheimers. He's forgotten how to feed himself, clean himself, use the restroom, and communicate with others. He needs hearing aids and glasses, which he will just pull off/out, and misplaced long ago so the world is just a blur to him. I feel awful, and like he feels alone, because he has to be in a secured facility to keep him from just walking out the front door and searching for my now dead grandmother. I truly feel like this is the worst disease.
@Adreiine I feel sorry for your Grandfather,it must be very upsetting, how long has it taken for your grandad to reach stage 6 from firstly being diagnosed with alzheimers. My mother has shrinkage of the brain and the doctor said it is early signs of dimentia and alzheimers, yet her short and long term memory seems very good to me even though she is 85.
In my opinion Alzheimer's is the worst disease on the planet. Diseases like AIDS destroy the body, but Alzheimer's destroys the mind. When that older Alzheimer's gentleman he said his parents were STILL around, To me that sent chills down my spine. Does this mean Alzheimer's includes delusions this severe?
@Nes8bitmachine my grandpa had alzheimers and i saw it literally over about 6 years slowly destroy him until he was just an empty shell, he died in 2008 but really the man i knew died a long time ago
@Nes8bitmachine I agree with you as Alzheimer's is a worse disease but realistically it's no contest against a real bad disease. Diabetes kills very slowly and affects the body.I work with diabetics and the havoc that this low life disease causes is just makes me very angry. It causes so much damage and medical expense. My daughter wants to become a doctor so she can beat up all of these diseases out of existence. She is only 14.
@Nes8bitmachine yes but alzheimers effects only 5.8+ million, the problem is that we have things that can be cured or prevented that more people suffer from which IMO takes priority.
@Nes8bitmachine - Alzheimer's is a form of Dementia. So in turn a person with this disease loses cognition, they lose all recent memory and at times seem crazy. They can only remember up to a certain period in their life and slowly even lose that. Have you ever seen the movie, the Notebook. It deals with Alzheimer's and its effects, of course it also has a love story behind it but it kind of lets you see how it can be at times.
My first comment befor the one you replied to must have been offensive. I think if something someone says is offensive or even off topic, it's still our freedom of speech & opinion as a American. People make things way hard then they really are. I'm very afraid lately...
One of the hardest things in my life was when I was with my great grandma in the nursing home when her ALzheimer's was at its worst. I was 14, and she started screaming because she didn't notice me. She didn't know who I was. That was devistating because she helped raise me and was a huge part of my life and for her to forget me was almost worse then when she died.
@sleepyleee For those not looking for a miracle cure but something to help with alzheimer's or memory, I would research a class of drugs called "racetams," lecithin, and choline.
@RogueTheElfWarrior1 : rogue: i just found out 20 minutes ago my mom has this. In the last year and a half mom has really mentally gone down hill substantially. I cried when I was told about this. Like my late father always said (he was mentally sharp till the day he died)....." there is no reward for getting old"
@inkey2 Sorry to hear about your mom. However, there are vitamins and herbs she can take that can reverse the disease without her getting on those wacky side-effect driven pharma drugs. Try these brain sharpeners: ginkgo biloba, selenium, rosemary leaf, kola nut, hot peppers like Habanero (they're hot, but they increase blood flow and spike neuron pulse). Also, keep her active with physical and mental exercise. Just do some research if you haven't. Good luck!
There are different hypothesis for the disease involving the two proteins identified from autopsy. The more primary etiology is the amyloid hypothesis, in which there is an accumulation of a protein "plaque". This is supported from genetic mutations found during the early onset of Alzheimer patients. These two abnormal proteins destroy regions of the brain over years ... which is what creates the stages. No cure has been developed the primary cause.
My grandfather has it, was diagnosed at the age of 74. He is 78 now and I swear he is the happiest guy on the planet. He laughs and giggles to himself all the time and he loves stuffed animals, he holds them and talks to them and treats them like they are cute little babies.
*sigh* lots of my older relatives had/have altzheimers, I think it's a genetic trait in my family. I hope I don't get it, or by the time I'm old, they have a cure. =[ My dad is really sad because his dad is getting the starting signs of alzheimers
I was surprised when the data of a new case diagnosed each 70 seconds! This is such a sad disease, my grandma had it and just like it is said in the video, in the end of her life she didn't remember basic things like how to eat. Let's hope that physicians can find a way to control it in order to stop it at the earliest stage or even cure it. At Symposier site there is more information on this disease for physicians interested on it.

I think the cause of Alzheimer is the blood vessels of the brain get stuck by
unknown substance that is why the brain get shrink.
I think exercise with a stationary bike may help.
Stationary bike can improve the blood circulate.
Try 5 minutes a day and gradually increase to 20 minutes a day.
If you to try, you have to take your own risk.

Good luck!

This is great info. We have to remember that the caregivers are also suffering and need support.
