  • Check out Shawn Lane on Google Plus, adios

  • Very good cover!

  • too much high end fro me, very good all the same, nice use of chorus!

  • @CURR1D There's no chorus on it.

  • sounds awesome! i hope you didnt use the blackouts where you have to route the body? because i saw someone do it with EMG's and i think it was a waste of a perfectly good 1527

  • @deathcore1239 Thanks! Nope, these were the standard fit Blackouts. Love them, far superior to EMGs imo (I have a Zakk Wylde set in a Les Paul which are nice, but these are so much more defined and versatile).

  • @MikeWazowski i was actually considering putting those blackouts in mine but im going for dimarzio. oh well,

keep up the good work dude!

  • MikeWazowski,

There are a lot of positives with your performance (sound, technique, etc) but are you not hearing the main melody during the chorus? Half of it isn't being played!

  • @newpowermoves

Hi, assuming you mean the chorus section around 1.00, it is being played. I'm using quite a bit of gain, which is turning it to mush a bit and may be confusing you.

  • @MikeWazowski

Ah ok. I was wondering because you seemed to have a firm grasp on most of the other melodies and even nuisances of this song.

    Still, I enjoyed your rendition!

  • thats a good sound u gt going there dude would you recomend the cab your using cus im thinking of buying one cheers.

  • @THE1ADI

Hi, absolutely. Marshall 1936 2x12. Great cab.

  • very well played, i was thinking of geting the passive blackouts for my rg 1527, can you please comment on how they compare to the default vintage 87 and 77. That would immensly help me out, thanks

  • Beautiful tune, and great playing. I'm saving to buy this guitar, i've already tested and the neck feels comfortable. I've only seen one vid of shawn lane soloing with joe satriani and friends, didn't know this shredder could make something that melodical.

  • that blackstar sounds really good!!

  • Good playing, great feeling. Nice to see a seven string being used to play something else than metal :) BTW nice tone, gets me quite excited because I'm getting blackouts installed in my RG7620 this week.

  • Love the occasional harmonics thrown in for good measure. Great job...

  • Thanks :)

  • Sweeeeeet

  • can you get these sorts of sounds out of the amp with lower output humbuckers?

  • shawn used medium output passive humbuckers.

  • Definitely. Check out my 'Cliffs of Dover' vid where I'm using a stock 335.

  • absolutely :)

  • I'm going to be getting an RG1527 2nd hand off a friend in a month or so.

And I'm thinking of getting a Blackstar HT5 to go with it (probably the combo)

Do the two sound good together? any advice or recommendations?

  • They're both great bits of kit. The only piece of advice I'd offer is to swap out the pickups on the Ibanez, as their pickups are awful. But the guitar itself, and the amp are great fun :D

  • Ace, thats good to know =)

I think I'll wait a while till swapping pickups though. As I'm going to be short on cash after buying the amp and guitar

  • Pick ups are nothing to threat over, I have the same guitar and use the stock pickups, check out one of my videos and see what you make of the tone :)

Awesome cover btw ;) Covering Shawn Lane is no easy task.

  • Nice job man.

  • for a shawn lane cover ill admit that was pretty amazing. just think, you struggle to emulate the song yet shawn composed it. keep playing man you got great skills.

    5/5

  • also i have 7 strings, my 7420 is basically the father of that one haha

  • im learning this as well and i have everyhting down perfect until the outro at bar 135 or so i understand why you ad libbed that part is a stretch /bad pun

  • about what ms setting was your delay at? around 330 ms?

  • Lol, can't remember tbh. I usually use something around 500-600 ms for high gain lead stuff.

  • what does 'effects loop' mean im thinking about buying one of the blackstars and need to know all the details haha.

also i saw a post saying i need to change the preamp tube, do i really NEED to?

  • An effects loop is a connection in between the preamp and poweramp where you can put certain effects that sound better post-preamp (like chorus/reverb/delay).

You don't NEED to do it at all, tho obviously it would improve the sound a bit.

  • Hey, that was amazing! O.O

    Also great tone, dude!!!!!!!

    Congrats!

  • Hey i have the same Ibanez guitar, well without the trem bar set-up. But anyways how much do the duncan blackout 7's run as opposed to the 6's

  • Not sure, I bought mine 'used' (they were still new in box tho). A quick google check should answer that question.

  • Awesome, dude :D Love it!

  • Wow sounds like you pretty much nailed the tone with your BlackStar amp and pro chops!

  • Haha, I don't know about Pro-chops, but thanks anyway!

  • Good sound.

    Good video.

    Thanks

  • Cheers. :)

  • nice tone, good playing man!!!!!

  • Good job, man. Did not know those Blackouts could do Shawn Lane. (from jpforum)

  • Thanks dude. EMGs/Blackouts are def NOT to be underestimated. I realise that most people use them for scooped, overgained, flat sounding metal, but really they're just pickups with more range, and when tweaked correctly can be amazing. I'm not saying this was a great tone or anything, or a great example of them, but they're definitely capable of some great stuff, and blow EMGs out of the water (i own both).

  • That sounds fantastic! How do you feel about the HT-5?

  • The most versatile low wattage amp there is. Period. It's fantastic for the price.

  • Awesome bro!

  • hey man are you using the phase 1 or phase 2 blackouts?

  • These are the phase 1s, to fit normal humbucker cavities.

  • ok thanks man =D

  • Pretty good man

  • are you using hybrid picking when you start this song?can you upload a video teaching the intro with the hybrid picking?

  • Make a video for 6 notes?! Haha!

Seriously tho, yes, i'm using hybrid picking for those 6 notes. I just pick the first note (G sharp on the 4th string), then finger E on the 3rd string with my 3rd finger, then B on the 1st string with my 4th finger. Then repeat, replacing the G sharp with an A at the 5th fret.

  • nice ;)

  • Good job dude, nice tone and feeling. You're right, you have to learn to use trembar :P

But, anyway, you did it awesome! 5s

  • Great cover!... Well played. It was nice to hear you come up with your own thing for the outro.

I jam over this tune at least once a day, i love it! :-D

  • Oh and i'm 'also' from the JP forum, hehe.

  • Haha-I know Willjay! I've got to thank you for introducing me to Shawn. Upon hearing a boot of him at Rockerfella's (I think) doing this tune He instantly became one of my top 3. I felt your pain with the whole Vai thing, and was delighted when you created this account.

Thanks for your comments, they mean a lot!

  • Wow! you have done an excellent job dude, shawn laneis not easy to cover so props!!

    im from jp forum also!

  • Hey Mike that's sound good to my ears, good work!
