One of the things I've been reading about is some of the crap they put in our water supply. We have so much chlorine in our water where I'm from you can basically taste it. It's fucking gross. There are alot of scientists who believe that the growing number of people in the world might be having a tremendous affect on our environment. More people, more cars, more homes. People need homes which normally requires the cutting down of trees and we need cars to put food on the table. Less trees mean more carbon in the air and cars emit carbon also.

Yes, lots of people want to have solar panels on their roofs or wind turbines on their property to cut out the energy bill and get money from the utility company instead.

With gas going up in price, EVs and alternate fuel vehicles will be the next big thing and some- like the Tesla Roadster- are beautiful, as well as going from 0-60 in less than 4 seconds and having a long range.

Heck, I ride my bike 12 miles a day because I will not buy gas but as soon as I save up money, I'm buying an EV.

Thanks David for your replay. I've asked because I see here (Italy and Germany) there was a very good start of this sector in the period of the commodites boom. However, as soon as the crisis hit, this sector imploded. People cut their expenses and shun long term return investments as those in sun power. Only with huge statal support the sector can survive, but it is - per se - still unsustainable. In other words its development is too much dependent on possible macroeconomic conditions....

actually the private sector is the only thing that has kept the clean energy policy popular as our government didnt support it wholly until the obama administration came in. several years ago thousands of US companies and colleges signed a declaration to reduce their carbon footprint by 80% by 2050. so yes, you could say that the only real demand for clean products is by the citizens since the government has no green infrastructure plan in place.

In this very moment I'd not commit myself in an entrepreneurial venture in this sector (my budget would let me do something in the distribution and assembly of solar panels, for instance). I'm actually thinking of starting a volunteer organization to build small wind turbines.

The parts are readily available: alternators and batteries from cars in junk yards, wire and wood from any hardware store.

If anybody wants to use this idea, feel free. (You just need a certified electrician to do the final connection to the grid.)

I am not thinking of it in an entrepreneurial way, though- but then, that frame of mind is not normal for me.

Indeed where I live the orographic situation doesn't make that kind of energy source available and, as I said, there's no real demand for it, so it's not yet a valuable entrepreneurial idea. Maybe the bioreactors' sector has more receptivity. Distribution and assembly of small bioreactors that, for instance, farmers can use to make gas and fertilizers from animals' wastes. I've not yet analyzed their cost effectiveness though.

we have a class at the college that i go to that specifically guides students on what their current degree is and finds a way to implement it to the green industry. for example a lot of kids in my class are architects and they are building a book on how to build an efficient hay bale house for cheap. im a graphic designer and im strictly in the marketing for green industries. im actually working with the architects to design a book describing how to build a hay bale house.

these hay bale houses cost slightly less than normal houses yet are able to cost ~$80 a year to heat, and we live in the rocky mountains where it's below freezing most of the winter. basically the green industry will change all of our occupations and kill off a lot of old jobs, but it will also create jobs. the reason it appeals to me because it's a youth driven movement and there is a potential for a lot of money, plus it's good for the planet.
