@LOTRlover100 FFVII was made for the PS1 and released in 1997, Crisis Core was made for the PSP and released in 2007, hope that clears things up for you. :-)

@EarthlingChild Yeh I know lol, it's just that a lot of the younger FF gamers these days seem to have no idea about the original FFVII and all they know instead is Crisis Core which, is why I wish that Square would remake VII so todays younger generation of gamers can experience the absolute brilliance of the FFVII universe.

Question! Please answer! I started watching a walkthrough of FF7 the game but the characters were all blocky. I've seen the really detailed characters in pictures and fan vids, but they aren't in this game. Is there a new version of the game with better graphics and cinematic scenes?

Nope, it came out on PS1, was put onto PC and available for download on PSN, but it's the same.

@ladidayy you are most likely seeing cutscenes and clips from the sequel movie Advent Children or the prequel and sequel games Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus.

@ladidayy no their isnt the reason you've seen them in better quality is because square enix made a prequal titles final fantasy:crisis core and their has also been a final fantasy 7 movie, their is no remake of this game

Well, they've already re-released the game on PSN as a PS1 classic, so I don't think they're going to completely remake it now.

3 It's no the graphics but the storyline and no matter how hard they tried even if the storyline was the same there would be something that would make it suck

@Theguitarplayer007 FFXIII was on the Xbox and XIII-2 is coming out on it aswell but as far as the originals go then they'll never see the light of day on the Xbox no.

But I disagree with you about a remake, personally I'd absolutely love to play FFVII with updated graphics and sound, aslong as they kept the story exactly the same, threw in a few new side quests, tweaked some of the Materia's, added new ones and made some adjustments to the battle system, it'd far from suck, It'd rock!!! :D

I'm fairly sure that this was one of the first if not the first game to blend your controllable polygon chraracter with fully animated backgrounds during certain scenes. Not only did this add a sense of wow factor but it also added an interactive element which had never been experienced before. Square continued this type of polygon/FMV blend in both Final Fantasy VIII and IX, and i think it works really well.

Although I do notice that many new FMVs seem to have polygons anyway. Look at Team Fortress 2's meet the class videos, or the Left 4 Dead opening, or Super Smash Bros. Brawl's cutscenes. CG, but seemingly with polygons anyway.

Nowadays a lot of games use what's called In-Engine cutscenes or movies, these are rendered in real-time using the games engine. Due to the high graphical quality of most games these days these type of cutscenes/movies are cheaper to produce than FMV as they rely on the existing game assests.

Valve make all their movies using this In-Engine method, some really good ones to watch are the Day of Defeat: Source trailers, but the TF2 ones are simply amazing!

It works well in games like FFX where the ingame graphics are good enough that you can actually tell what a model is supposed to be depicting (ie, a human being)

FFVII's ridiculously low polygon models just ruined the FMVs they were in. There were games in the 32/64 bit era that were much, much easier on the eyes.
