I am 54 years old and my Dad would play all these albums for me while I danced me around on his shoes . What a sweet memory that brings back n I often sign her songs just from my childhood memories. How lucky I am!
I was born in 56' and I hate to dis my generations music, but, there will never be another Dinah or "her" generations music... sadly, but thankful we have some of this magic to enjoy forever...
I know what Ella could do with her voice and no one, Sinatra, or anyone else could sing like Ella Fitzgerald. It's like comparing the voice of Boy George to Aretha Franklin.
Never reakized there were so many great renditions of "All Of Me", right here on You Tube.
Hodges, Armstrong, Clayton the best instrumental. This is great Dinah, and the best of the vocals, with Sinatra second, then Ella and Billie. Of course the great backing here doesn't hurt!!
Exactly this version is on the CD "Dinah Washington sings standards" from Verve, it was recorded July 6, 1958 at the Newport Jazz Festival, Rhode Island!
Why did the director of this video not focus more on the band? I would have liked to see some of Terry Gibbs playing his vibes solo - instead of the camera panning around at the audience. Although they finally focused on Dinah Washington while she was singing - they managed to include just a fragment or two of Max Roach. This sort of attention deficit disorder happens more to directors and camera people when they are filming Jazz than with any other genre of music.
I was so desapointed when I saw this video ! I was kind of nervous because I couldn´t see the band and her....I was waiting all the time and it gave me such a bad sensation.
This is another selection I am singing for the Tribute Album

had to do a double take to re-check that date. 1958? Unbelievable. This is a real find, in color.

Dinah Washington died in 1963. The singer is not Dinah.
