I was thinking of getting the HXC floppy emulator for my Emax. Do you know if it's possible to mount it somehow in the space where the floppy drive was?

yes just stick your sd card into the PC.

There is a dedicated software for transfer/convert/edit the disc format

can you transfer audio files from pc/mac into the emax using this? if so, what specification should the sounds be?
