I cant connect my laptop computer to my tv with a hdmi cable, ive connected it to another tv but not this one, its a hd ready grundig tv and my laptop is a compaq, the laptop recognises that the tvs attached but the tv doesent it says no signal, i dont have any hdmi channels/extensions on the tv just EXT 1,2,3,4,4s and 5 - which is the one i use for my ps3 and works fine with the hdmi cable, what do i need to do to make this work? thanks
Thanks for the video. It was really helpful. So, I plugged in the HDMI into my laptop and it automatically goes to the t.v when I change video inputs but my t.v does not have any sound when I change sound settings to the HDMI speakers. It's works on my sister computer. I was wondering do I need something else for my laptop so I can get speaker sound?
@mmarmes24 The sound does travel through the HDMI connection so you may need to tinker around with your audio settings more. You can use a separate audio connection for sound to a sound system.
@macaronimadness You will need to get a different cord that will work. There is always the possibility that the connection may not work if you have an analog TV.
You taught me how to crochet & now this! THANK YOU!
I connected my PC to my TV using the S video. I can get my desktop picture on my TV, but no icons and there doesn't seem to be a connection. My TV is old and doesn't have HDMI or any graphic changes on the menu. Any ideas?
You can get sound on the TV by getting a headphone jack cable that coverts to rca cable red and white. Then just connect the red and white cables to the same input that you are connecting your S-video to and you will get sound.
@CRAZYTACO10 Your TV should have some different input settings that you will need to select for the connection you are using. The computer may not automatically recognize the connection even though the connection will be active.
@xx0scarxx Yes, it is going to depend on your connection though. HDMI is the only one that provides a sound connection through the cable. You will need to connect the audio separate with any other connection.

But when I first tried this before I saw your video, my laptop never picked up my Phillips or Emerson TV. Should I preset my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop to something?
@yotcral66 The computer may not always automatically pick up the TV. If they are analog TV's, they may not work. You will have additional settings available in the graphics properties when you have a live connection

Well heres my issue...First of all, I'd like to thank you for spending sometime helping us doing this. I'm trying to connect my laptop (the exact one you have xp) to my tv30 feet away. This is at a business I have. The tv is only about 30 inches, and it has the s-video port. below (which isnt me ading for the sellers) is what I think would support me both video and audio.
I tried posting the link right now but its too big, Im going to send each link as a comment...

I use a VGA cable, and a regular mini audio cable on my plasma television. It's so clear, and I surprised my family and friends.. I recently purchased a S-Video for my older tv.. Picture quality not as good as VGA, but I think it's worth it to watch movies and such on my alone time.
i just hooked my laptop to my tv using the vga and the mini audio cable, but i cant get the picture to fit the screen. The picture is to large and i need to scroll around to see particular things. how can i get the picture to ft my tv screen?
You will adjust the display setting so it fits. You will right click on your desktop to find the settings. The setting are under several different names with each edition of Windows.
Adjust the setting. If you have windows xp. Right click on your desktop, and go to setting. From there, you will see screen resolution. Play with it a little bit, and you'll find out... Since I have a plasma tv, it change its resolution to fit the screen automatically.
This is REALLY something I've been wanting to try. This laptop I has an HDMI. I also notice the letters on that screen is not as blurry compared to the XP machines.
This is a very well done video. Thanks. However I am trying to hook up an old TV, analogue with S-video in or the composit auxilry in, of three RCA plugs of yellow, white, red.
My two computers have no S-video. The desktop has HDMI, and VGA in use to its monitor. The laptop has a VGA.
So I have to try to go from HDMI or VGA to the TV into S-video or the Aux 1 of composit 3 RCA ends Y, W, R.
I just bought a new LCD TV. Im trying to connect it with a HDMI cable but in graphic properties there is no option for television!! Im raging cause i dont think there is a way to activate the HMDI to TV. My laptop is brand new too so i dont see what the problem could be
If both are brand new, you should be able to connect them. I know on my TV, I have to change the input for each cable that I connect to the TV. When you plug the HDMI to the TV, the computer should recognize the connection and that will trigger the necessary options to become available for you to transfer the signal over to the TV. Just depending on the day, the single may get thrown to the TV automatically or I may have to manually switch.
thanks for the reply..unfortunately the computer only intermittently recognizes that it is hooked up to a TV so sometimes (when its in the mood) it activates and the image transfers onto the TV and then other times... nothing!!! grrrrrrr!!
when i connect my laptop hp 6910p to tv , the result on tv is black n white but on laptop its color , just on tv its black n white, any one can tell , Y?
S-video works even with my nVidia GeForce 4 mx 420 witch is an 2001 model so all of you that have S-Video outpout or hdmi use Google to find the software to enable them (usually these kind of software are given from the graphics adapter website for free or you might already have them installed)
Hello. I own a Sony Vaio PCV-RS700 Desktop Computer and a Sanyo DP19647 HD TV. I recently purchased an S-Video cable and hooked both ends to the appropriate ports on the TV and PC. I tried restarting my computer, but when I open the Display Properties under settings, I only view one monitor and that is the one I am currently using. No video shows up under any of the imputs on my TV. Do you have and ideas as to what I can do to solve this problem? Thanks!
The only way you will know if it will work is to give it a try. Some will work and some won't work. The newer the TV(HDTV) and computer, the greater the chances that it will work.
I don't know. The only thing you can do is try to hook them up and see if it works. I have seen video's here on YouTube showing old TV's displaying computer images. Not all analog TV's will work.
I have a question: I have an RF modulator since my TV doesn't support S-Video, only RCA, and I was wondering, how can I fix the picture issue? All I get is TV signal, no PC signal. I set it up correctly, no dice. Please help. Thanks. Nice video, and TV. I have the same laptop, too.
okay, i have a question, i have a HDMI cable and when i plug it in, nothing happens the screen remains black, and my computer doesnt show anything. that will let me fix it
ok so once the hdmi cord is hooked up you right click and the option will appear??? even if it wasnt there before??? and does this happen on any brand of laptop??? do you need a program ??? and if its hiding in control panel what would it be under??? plz respond thnx
so, what if i dont have HDMI and i'm using VGA? how do i get sound through my television if i'm going through VGA? oh, and btw how do you get that dell graphics properties type program you kept pulling up? i got a dell studio 17. thanks so much 5 stars! =D
The sound will run in separate through the AUX where you plug in speakers. When you have a proper connection, sometimes the box will pop up automatically and/or the selection will be available from the graphics options. The option will go away when the connection is broken or not correct.
I am getting extemele frustrated because i have tryed to hook up two tv's with two cables. one cable is a regular s-video cable . This shows nothing on my screen. The other cables an s-video hook up to my laptop and the other end of the cord has the video and two audio plugs.
When connect this cable is actually shows on on the tv but only squilly lines and a buzzing sound. What do I do? how do I fix it? how do I hook it up correctly?
and one more ? the cpu am getting is an hdmi with no montor and iseen the video you did and did you really need to set it up first then it will come on the hdtv or just plug it in and it pops up on the hdtv??
As long as you have your TV on the correct input, you should be able to adjust your settings once the TV is recognized as a monitor. Each computer will be different in the set up process. The TV will be the same as your monitor.
i have a ? ok if you have a cpu that has hdmi and i use the videocards hdmi and when its conncted to the hdtv will i abel to connect to the net? cuz ive hered that you need more cabels to make it work and no cpu screen just the hdtv =hdmi
Mine has HDMI on the TV and the laptop. You will have to make another selection if your TV does not have HDMI. There are no guarantees that an analog TV will work. Analog is hit and miss.
I have a Dell inspiron 6400 with Windows Vista Home Basic and a digital computer, but nothing happens when I put the S-video cabel into the computer... Do you know why that can be?
I know on my HDTV, there are several input choices that I have to choose from. They each represent a type of cable connection, VGA, HDMI, or S-Video. I have to change the TV input in order to view the computer on the TV. You probably just need to select the correct input setting on the TV.
You will need to match what your computer had to your TV. Some cable connections have interchangeable ends that may or may not work. I do not believe HDMI does that.
yeah..of course you americans have huge lcd TV's and performant laptops and pc's

My two computers have no S-video. The desktop has HDMI, and VGA in use to its monitor. The laptop has a VGA.
So I have to try to go from HDMI or VGA to the TV into S-video or the Aux 1 of composit 3 RCA ends Y, W, R.
I'm searching online for some cable. Thanks.

Thank you. I was not successful in getting our old analog TV hooked up. Some will work but it is hit and miss.

I just bought a new LCD TV. Im trying to connect it with a HDMI cable but in graphic properties there is no option for television!! Im raging cause i dont think there is a way to activate the HMDI to TV. My laptop is brand new too so i dont see what the problem could be
cabeeno 2 years ago
If both are brand new, you should be able to connect them. I know on my TV, I have to change the input for each cable that I connect to the TV. When you plug the HDMI to the TV, the computer should recognize the connection and that will trigger the necessary options to become available for you to transfer the signal over to the TV. Just depending on the day, the single may get thrown to the TV automatically or I may have to manually switch.

thanks for the reply..unfortunately the computer only intermittently recognizes that it is hooked up to a TV so sometimes (when its in the mood) it activates and the image transfers onto the TV and then other times... nothing!!! grrrrrrr!!

S-video works even with my nVidia GeForce 4 mx 420 witch is an 2001 model so all of you that have S-Video outpout or hdmi use Google to find the software to enable them (usually these kind of software are given from the graphics adapter website for free or you might already have them installed)

u can't do that on windows 7 :(

You should still be able to do it, only in a different way,

Thanks!
theMusicalOath 2 years ago
Just unhook the monitor and plug in the TV instead. The TV should be recognized as your monitor.

i have a toshiba satellite l45 is there any way i can use it on my vizo (i think i spelt it wrong) ??
solarboyzxa 2 years ago
The only way you will know if it will work is to give it a try. Some will work and some won't work. The newer the TV(HDTV) and computer, the greater the chances that it will work.

MY TV IS OBSOLETE HERE. CAN STILL BE USE TO SEE INTERNET IN MY TV..its philips magnavox.
yudiak 2 years ago
I don't know. The only thing you can do is try to hook them up and see if it works. I have seen video's here on YouTube showing old TV's displaying computer images. Not all analog TV's will work.

If you are using an HD TV, you will have to find the port number that you plugged the computer in to on the TV and change the input.

This will not work with all analog TV's. I have an analog TV with an S-video connection and could not get it to pick up a signal from the computer.

ok so once the hdmi cord is hooked up you right click and the option will appear??? even if it wasnt there before??? and does this happen on any brand of laptop??? do you need a program ??? and if its hiding in control panel what would it be under??? plz respond thnx

so, what if i dont have HDMI and i'm using VGA? how do i get sound through my television if i'm going through VGA? oh, and btw how do you get that dell graphics properties type program you kept pulling up? i got a dell studio 17. thanks so much 5 stars! =D
paraguayanboi 2 years ago

What do I do? how do I fix it? how do I hook it up correctly?
jsoto11181 2 years ago
S-Video cable is ONLY for Video, that "S-Video" cable you talking about with the audio inputs cant be a S-Video
Deraco1 2 years ago
You can try the VGA or HDMI cables. Are you using an analog TV?

and one more ? the cpu am getting is an hdmi with no montor and iseen the video you did and did you really need to set it up first then it will come on the hdtv or just plug it in and it pops up on the hdtv??
KILLCOMBO 2 years ago
As long as you have your TV on the correct input, you should be able to adjust your settings once the TV is recognized as a monitor. Each computer will be different in the set up process. The TV will be the same as your monitor.
tjw1963 2 years ago
i have a ? ok if you have a cpu that has hdmi and i use the videocards hdmi and when its conncted to the hdtv will i abel to connect to the net? cuz ive hered that you need more cabels to make it work and no cpu screen just the hdtv =hdmi
KILLCOMBO 2 years ago
You will have to have your computer hooked up to an Internet connection to get Internet.
tjw1963 2 years ago
the hdmi cable goes in the laptop what kind of end goes in the tv
carlton132 2 years ago
Mine has HDMI on the TV and the laptop. You will have to make another selection if your TV does not have HDMI. There are no guarantees that an analog TV will work. Analog is hit and miss.

I have a Dell inspiron 6400 with Windows Vista Home Basic and a digital computer, but nothing happens when I put the S-video cabel into the computer... Do you know why that can be?
JOEERDAMAN 2 years ago
I know on my HDTV, there are several input choices that I have to choose from. They each represent a type of cable connection, VGA, HDMI, or S-Video. I have to change the TV input in order to view the computer on the TV. You probably just need to select the correct input setting on the TV.
tjw1963 2 years ago
Well, I have a list that goes: AV1 S-Video AV2 CMP VGA HDMI 1 HDMI 2
And I've chosen S-Video... Is that right?

I don't have the option of 'Graphic Properties' on my desktop. Any ideas?

When it is set up correctly, all of your options will be available. When the connection is broken or not hooked up, the options go away.

could you help me please..
im gunna buy a HDMI Cable but is it HDMI at both ends of the cable?
lewybov2k7 2 years ago
You will need to match what your computer had to your TV. Some cable connections have interchangeable ends that may or may not work. I do not believe HDMI does that.
