  • nice video so what fruit are good for energy

  • And you, my dear racist peer, are an ignorant, very sad excuse for a human being.

If you have a reply then keep it to yourself, because I'm done with this conversation. Unless of course you want to show yourself for a fool and keep trying to have a fight via the internet . . . then go right on ahead.

  • @TheSymbolofProximity - An unattractive truth? More like a bigoted opinion. Last time I checked, I wasn't sub-human.

  • @TheSymbolofProximity - Really, you are an idiotic person.

  • very informative, although an apple wont satisfy my snickers Jones

  • I'm a pescitarion also :)

  • i enjoy watching you shop, unlike some ignorant dummies!

  • how about v8

  • Not a bad selection sis. When you REALLY want to step your food game up, buy organic. It is more expensive, but there is a difference. As you said throughout the vid., "You have to invest in yourself". Smart move to layoff the diary. Milk is poison. Most of women's productive problems, (fibroids, cysts, etc.) come from consuming milk, cheese, cream, and other dairy related products.

  • they genetically modify the food, nowadays the milk and grains don't have the nutrients that they're supposed to have. That's where alot of our immune systems problems are coming from. Did you know tomatoes aren't even supposed to be red? they were originally yellow.

You go to other countries and they're able to eat these foods, that's cus they don't have any of the additives and pest killers we do. That's also why they often don't have 3 meals a day the food has proper nutrients.

  • FunnyKidsAreCool: Cow milk is NOT made for or conducive to human consumption. It's made for baby calves to consume. Cow's milk is the biggest cause of mucous and it also causes osteopororis (sp?). Cow's milk is a straight poison. To quote spank from The Little Rascals: (in a whispering voice) "Don't drink the milk...It's poison".

  • got that right.

  • You are so smart, and I love this.

I shop for fresh fruits and veggies all the time and I sometimes have a hard time with what goes with the others or how to pick them out.

    :D

    Thank you for this video!

  • you wont eat fresh cuts of meat but you ll eat some nasty ass canned tuna? canned fish is gross!!! so is canned meat?

  • u gross ..not tuna

  • our vegies are in the middle with the frozen food at the end and all the rest is mixed up with good and bad through the store

  • they always have milk at the back of the store so that way u can pass through the things that u dont need to get what u need at the back great marketing stragedy

  • Aaah I see. PS I like your ironic misspelling of "strategy" (strategy + tragedy) ;-)

  • Im a college student and I would like to eat heather and more organic foods I live in a dorm so there no kitchen (I wouldnt know how to cook and way) all I have is a hot pot and a refrigerator any suggestions on what I can get when I go grocery shopping?

  • Love your videos! Quick question is soy milk better than regular milk?

  • Hmmm...what would you recommend for snacks and beverages (aside from water/green tea)?

  • I like how you're really in a grocery store with a camera! Anybody look at you like you were crazy? lol Great video!

  • You beat me to the punch on this one. I found a great veggie shop and I thought about doing this exact video - thanks! VERY informative and yes. I am a sugar addict! LOL

Do you remember me from CAU? July 1998

  • I really enjoyed the tour. Have you ever studied orthomolecular therapy? I have and it changed my life in a great way. If you look up your local library or even google it you just might be fascinated by it.

  • OrthoMolecular? No, never heard of it. I will look it up, but can you give us a brief run down?

    -TKO

  • this is nice:)... i imagine this would be especially helpful to young bachelor and bachelorette's that wanna shop smart but lack experience :)... it'll b cool if u do a nice show on 1 of ur favorite vegetarian/peskatarian meals! :)

  • Nice video. Shopping for vegetables can really be fun. Folks should keep the genetic engineering issue in mind. A good book is Seeds of Deception.

  • I LOVE veggies.

    Fresh salad veggies.

  • so i cant get all my nutrients fom the liquor store?LOL!

  • Very informative...

I never cook from scratch (sad but true), but at least I'll try to switch from canned to frozen vegetables. Thanks!

  • good job girl.

  • This is fantastic, Tonya. I've often advocated garlic to people. I also hear what you're saying about living alone and not wanting to store a lot of fresh vegetables; I've eaten a lot of canned for that reason, and I really can't afford to eat that much sodium myself, either.

  • excellent footage! love all the produce shots. can you grab me some grapefruit next time you're out? 5-stars

  • don't forget green peppers more vitamin c than an orange...way more...!!!!

  • i had no idea!

  • that garlic she took (in the sock) is from China---don't ever buy that---why is the broccoli shrinkwrapped?

  • I don't know... please tell us.

    -TonyaTko

  • oranges and kiwi!!!

  • You can freeze raw cabbage (the one half your arent able to finish).. It holds alot of water but it steams really well..

  • it took me a while to acquire the change of taste in brown rice as opposed to white. I love it now ... espcially with beans ... really nice vid!!!

  • There are ways to get more flavor into your brown rice. You can use chicken broth or beef broth. It comes in a can or in cube form. but it may have too high of salt content. I think saffron can give it flavor too.

  • YEAH!!! I've heard the same thing about milk! I prefer soy actually... I am not sure what to do about protein though. I was a vegetarian for 12 years and I was in a constant NEVER ENDING state of perpetual ongoing hunger. It was the most aweful bottemless pit feeling EVER!

I like the fish set-up I got going on.

    -TonyaTko

  • beans and almonds are good in protein

  • Hey! What's wrong with pizza? Obviously YOU never heard of a pizza salad!! LOL

  • Wow it's crazy all the things you said are the same things I used to tell people when I worked at a grocery store. People never listened. It's nice to have some more backup on the subject especially the garlic.

  • You even make grocery shopping sexy

  • hey your tottaly right about the whole grocery store layout - I HAVE NOTICED THAT MYSELF! lol

but hey being a pescatarian and all dat i tried dat but yooo u gotta admit that CHICKEN keep talkin to me so i hadda dabble in a little meat everynow and then

  • Excelent work!..Thank you Tonya!

  • no fresh fish?? lol It taste way better than canned.

  • Didn't watch it till the end eh? :-D

    -TonyaTko

  • You're smart...! ;)

  • omg you are very intelligent. thank you for this information *subscribed*

  • I recently subscribed to you and believe I can learn a lot from you. I wouldn't say I eat unhealthy often, but when I listen to you and your excellent advice, I certainly want to do better. Thank you!

  • hey you know what. I have heard both good and bad about coconut milk. I love the fresh one in the caribbean, but everywhere else, everyone keeps telling me how fattening it is. ANy thoughts?

    -TOnyaTko

  • Ummmmm somehow I don't think think she was supposed to be "always eating them while you're shopping..." :-D

    -TonyaTKo

  • Rutabaga (misspelled maybe) the big turnip looking thingy is good for you too. Low in calories and very filling. steam it or boil it.

  • Isn't it bitter?

    -TonyaTko

  • nope. It almost has a slight sweet taste. You can lightly salt and pepper it. Squash also steamed with very little water and salt and pepper with onions. It's in the pumpkin family. But I don't think you'll like it. It's not a favorite for many.

  • Cabbage is a cruciferous vegetable, like broccoli and cauliflower, which are all loaded with anti-oxidants. Corn has a lot of protein, but it is high in starch, so it should be eaten in moderation because it has a high glycemic index.

  • Im thinking f doing fish n chicken only.

  • My mother always taught me to buy fruit and vegetables that have the DEEPEST color because they have more vitamin content, especially when it cums to lettuce, I usually buy Romaine Lettuce but I really switched over to spinach cuz it is just loaded with vitamins!

  • hmm I never notice that how they got the sections on the vegetables and the other types of food.

  • Doing the right thing--love it --but you need to stay away from rice --only wild rice --is real --if you must eat rice then Basmati thats you second choice--Stay away from bread ---The Eggs you don't really need--great tip on the vegggies and their color--great --tip on the cleansers.--Do what you do --_Olokun_OguN_Oduduwa_Elegba_Shango_OshuN

  • Remember to stick to the outside walls of the store. Wholesome foods on the outside walls, predominantly junk foods on the inside isles.

  • C-Town.

    -TonyaTko

  • Okay, I will do a cooking video for you all... But Im getting ready to move... so its kinda crazy.

    -TonyaTko

  • the next time they dont let you watch them fillet ya fish tell them you dont want it. i had a place switch my fresh fish to old stinky fish. and youare somewhat correct about the store set-up. but they also hide goods that can benifit in the inner isles now.

  • I love salads, and I try to stay away from canned veggies but sometimes its hard. Girl my sister makes the bomb cabbage soup we did that diet for seven days it works. I don't do nobodies egg plant sorry. But thanks for the tips. peace.

  • I eat raw garlic and ginger every morning after breakfast.

You KNOW you have to become a "salad person" now.

  • I hate cold food. I don't like lettuce and I'm really only partial to vine tomatoes. I don't know what could make me like salad.

    -TonyaTko

  • Great video. Um, your making me hungry. Don't forget our Gatorade. LOL

  • I don't do gatorade... I don't like to drink my calories. If Im going to ingest 200 cals, I rather it be from something really sweet! LOL

    -TonyaTko

  • thats how i accomplished losing weight, all the veggies u mentioned. lots of color! but ur doing a great deed with the facts ma! Long time no chit chat old friend. U've become a stranger.

  • You know how it makes me feel when you call me "ma" rrrrrrrrrr. Keep still.

    :">

    -TonyaTko

  • my bad.......forgot.u dont like

  • No.... actually I like it TOOO much. Drives me wild.

    >:">

    -TonyaTko

  • I will be sharing some easy recipes, cooking sites and resources for you and your weight loss companions. The recipes easy to prepare, cook and are very healthy. So keep a look out. And keep up the good work, I'm proud of you and you're a wonderful inspiration especially to us women. Oh and you so make me miss NYC and the east coast so much.

  • MMMMmnn you making me hungry. What's the difference btwn frozen fruits and fresh fruits that you can freeze? You're not getting the one with the extra added sugar are you?

I don't buy juice either bcz of the unnecessary sugar with no vitamins. Even with OJ... vit c begins to die the moment it hits the air. By the time we get in in a box it has been heated, cooled, shipped and stores and is pretty much done for.

    -TonyaTko

  • awesome video. I had never really thought about the store layout and it's very true.

  • Great video.

That looks like a pathmarks supermarket.

Unfortunately the price of good veggies is getting very high. Try to hit those farmers markets. We are very much into organic produce. Yall know you can juice those veggies too. Thats great stuff for being fit and healthy.

    thanks for the vid!!!!

  • The prices seem very low compared to Australia.

  • Australian dollar is lower than American I guess AU $90 is close to US $72.26 in America and AU $100 is close to $80.29 that is probably why it seems cheaper though it may not be...

  • Now that's something I would enjoy doing with a girl friend--shopping at the grocery store(or stores, as far as one of my aunts is concerned!). Especially with someone as insightful as Tonya!

  • Yo, I heard that grapefruit juice/olive oil concoction is good for getting rid of gall stones.

  • Yes! Thats the cleanse I am talking about! And it is OH SO delicious

    -TonyaTko

  • Fresh tuna is good as well. It is a little more pricey then canned tuna, but the price per lb is worth ($9.99/lb on avg). Plus you can make waaay more tuna this way, and benefit from it more.

  • Thank you soooooo much! Never thought of this.

    -TonyaTko

  • I am not a fan of lettuce. I really hate iceberg, romaine is good, Boston is the best; but I rather make my salads with SPINACH!!! Also red peppers have vitamin C and A as well.

  • I love this video! People must think your crazy that your talking to a camera haha. I wouldn't be able to do this out in public :P

    Your a BRAVE ONE!

  • Thanks TonyaTKO. I am a brocoli, red pepper and lettuce person!

I don't shop much! When I do go through the store, I happen to pass through the produce aisle.

  • Tonya, excellent video! I do want to know what you do with these veggies though.

  • This was great. I'd forgotten how much fun it is to shop with a pretty girl. By the way, the one Italian guy kept watching you. It wasn't the camera. He was behind you and I know what he was looking at.

  • The supermarket where I shop has the fresh stuff (veggies, fruits, breads, meats) in one part of the building and the dairy, canned and processed stuff in another (like two buildings in one). I just mostly go to the organic section when I can. Nice shopping tips, very informative!!

  • I wish my grocery bill was only 60 bucks for 2 weeks. LOL I have 5 other mouths to feed. lol.Hopefully grocery shopping won't be too taxing on the pocketbook.

  • I have been a vegetarian now for about 2 months. Shopping for vegetables and fruits is a regular ritual for me. I appreciate the way I feel. My body has undergone changes as a result of the change in my diet.

  • Thanks for this Tonya! I'm going grocery shopping tomorrow morning. I am an orange lover also. I learned to really appreciate them when we were stationed in Spain. At the resturants in town, and even in the homes of Spanish citizens, after dinner, Oranges are served in place of what we consider deserts in Western culture. I'm definately taking your tips to heart. Good JOB!...and Spinach is my favorite green veggie... next to collards.

  • Eggs, Bacon, cheese and bread...

  • U got me so hungry over here. By the way, I LOVE THE WAY THOSE WATERMELONS LOOK! ;>

  • I personally think this was a good video,lol.

Good point about the design of a grocery store.

  • That is so true about the store layout - never thought about it like that! Great food choices - you're doing good! <3

I agree with the Oatmeal - fills you up and has sustained energy - and low in fat! =o]

  • Skip the cereal girl and eat some Oatmeal!!! Add some honey, raisins and cinnamon...and breakfast is served! If you eat 3/4 cup it helps with cholesterol!!!

  • I am in love!

  • I love how you shop. I wish you where my Wife!

  • Hey Tonya

You are just like me shopping,my husband be like what is the difference, I be like alot .

  • that;s good to know... so when r u going to cook for me.... i'm sure u can surprise me with ur kitchen talents.

  • Tonya you look good, this video was very informative. I need to shop more like you.
