there are even at least two versions of the movie. It was aired several times in Germany, one version with English one version with French sungs. It´s a very good and funny movie, excellent cast and lovely script
I never got to see this movie, as I was just a bit too young when it came out for such a scandolous story. But my older brother did, and he bought the record. I loved listening to it back then, and was delighted to find this clip posted here. Thank you!
I saw this film when I was a young teen ager. For some reason I remember enjoying it . Would love to see the complete film again. Want to thank you for posting. Watching this clip was a real treat .
With her stunning legs, i could watch Angie Dickinson in hotpants all day long, let alone the few brief seconds this video gave us. Whoever told Maurice Chevalier that he could sing? He needs throttling! Anyway, "Thank heavens for little girls" if they grow up to look like Angie Dickinson.
Those weren't called hotpants in 1962 - just shorts. The "hotpants" that were briefly (no pun intended) fashionable in the early 1970s were even shorter.
Chevalier was always known as a singer. His singing and acting career began at age 13 in 1901 and continued right up until his death in 1972. If he were playing a priest today, he'd be singing "Thank heaven for little boys"!
The village women are all presumably Sicilian - so why do they all speak English with a variety of different accents?
I am sorry i have not replied to your previous comment scotpens, but i had a breakdown in E-mail reception for a couple of months which i have only just repaired. When you say if Maurice Chevalier were a priest today he would be singing "Thank heaven for little boys", i take it you are referring to the increase in priests being exposed as paedophiles & being defrocked. Chevalier was definitely not gay & had quite a reputation as a lover with his leading ladies.
The French priest is probably hiding in this God forsaken outpost because of this obvious drinking problem and womanizing ways...what better place for a French priest. Makes perfect sense to me. Great clip!
Could you post the whole movie pretty please?? :)

Yes, that's what I was referring to. I certainly didn't mean to imply that Chevalier himself was gay -- or a pedophile!

I never heard of this movie until now. Looks pretty hokey and predictable, but I could watch a young Angie Dickinson read the phone book.
Why does a Sicilian village have a French priest?
