This movie was darker than "Tipping the velvet" and "Fingersmith", no doubt. This was very strangely introduced but I liked it though. :) still in love with "T.T.V" and Fingersmith :D they were wonderful.

tbh from what i can see in the film (the book i havent quite finished yet) i think selina did love margaret in a way.like when they kissed selina said sorry to her as if she was feeling guilty on what she was about to do.also at the end when on the boat selina looked a bit remorseful and then ruth said to her how she was now hers-its almost as if she finally escaped prison yet is still trapped because she is now ruths possesion.maybe im just over analysing this though

Yes, in the TV adaptation Davies has made Selina visibly remorseful, but I still say that if Selina had loved Margaret she would have 'fessed up to the deception ahead of time, rather than do THAT to her! (Could you do THAT to someone you loved?)

Yeah, she had to get out of prison - but if she'd have told Margaret maybe Marge could have found her a lawyer, appealed the sentence! She chose to screw Marg over instead.

I think maybe I'm the one overanalysing! :D

I loved this movie but the ending... omg... I was heart broken. I really thought that the spirits would let her escape to be with margaret. I think I should have guessed that she was a fake but I still felt so shocked that she never really loved her. the ending was beautiful in a hauting kind of way though when she killed herself and they were hunggin in the water

I must admit I don't like "the water ending", simply because - sad to say - Selina loved Ruth. She would not have sat quietly in prison, protecting Ruth, if she didn't love her! (Yes, Ruth was a horrible person, but not everyone who is loved is worthy.)

Selina used (abused!) Margaret to get back to Ruth - so for Davies to add that "water ending" was just misguided, if you ask me. Which is why I chopped it out of this vid and kept it closer to the novel.

Well, to be honest no film could do the book complete justice (it's just too amazing!), but this adaptation did have many fine shivery moments. Did you enjoy?

I thoroughly enjoyed it, and although it wasn't as enthralling as the book, it was a hell of a lot better than most film adaptations. Nice to see that it remained faithful to the novel's plot as well, and didn't focus too much on the lesbianism to cause a sensation.
