@theIrishFooFighter yea i read that already a loooooong time ago that is like 3 years ago but thanks anyway i think your tutorials are the best explained and smother than other tutorials like the ones you read, you do a great job and keep it up note: don't try to hard you might mess up. make more because i like them there very help full!
lol yeah its Valve though They like breaking things. Stay tuned to my new website where i will be putting up loads more tutorials soon sourcemodding[dot]com Its still in development :P
hey i need help. I cant do the create mod part. I get a error saying "Can't open createmodfiles\source2009\gameinfo_sp.txt for reading." PLEASE HELP!!!
@mrgurth1 I did a bit of research into that error. As far as i have read VALVe have yet not implemented the SDK for creating mods with the source code for the 2009 engine. I used 2007 in my mod and still do. There are not too many differences for the 2007 engine so try and create one for it and it should work. yu will be editing the Orange box engine with the 2007 code anyway
@mrgurth1 Well when i started my mod i choose the Orange Box which at the time was known to have been released in 2007 with TF2 and portal etc so basically it used the hl2ep2 engine with updated particle engine etc while the EP1 engine was for css and hl2 and hl2ep1 etc.
Then valve messed everything up to 2006,2007 and 2009.Why they did this im not really sure but if i was to hazard a guess i would say it is to accommodate the new version of the engine that will most likely come out with portal2
@mrgurth1 (sry ran out of space) But i havent loaded the sdk in a while so i am not totally sure what to do man. My mod is still listed under 2007 and yes the 2007 version of the engine is still hl2ep2 as far as i know. The best way to check is to create a mod and then run it. If you are in hl2 ep2 then you are on the orange box engine if its ep1 then you are on 2006.
Awkward right?
Welcome to modding with valve Software
:)
But in all seriousness go to the VDC the articles there are good :)
go to the steam forums and you will find a thread under SDK called Coding where there are a few veteran SDK user that can answer your queries better than me man. Im sorry im not much help but i have been away from Modding for a bit long than i would like to admit.
Building my new Pc so when thats done i'll be back on track
:) But sure add me on steam if you want and i might be able to help ya
Well i didnt write the code i got it from the Valve developer Community Wiki and thought to myself there needs to be a tutorial on this stat. So i set about making it. Post your errors on sourcemodding.pastebin.com and i might know from the error what it is
If your comfortable with it i can have a look at your code and try to fix it
Source is VALVe's 3D gaming engine ... its the platform they use to design and implement award winning games such as the Half-life 2 series, Team fortress 2, Counterstrike Source and Portal....
if you own any one of these games they give you Source SDK to make your own MOD or game with the engine
Realistic Physics from havok, awesome animations and brilliant particle system all play a part in making source one of the best engines available out there....
No problem Bro im working on my own as an extra curricular project that i will add to my CV once completed, If you need help at any stage im available, not that i know the source engine inside out but i can find my way around hammer, and Visual basic so send me a pm if you need help
I know my way around C/C++ quite well, so the programming part of source is fairly standard to me. It's just exactly the in's and out's I don't really know much of about the engine, so as how to get a custom HUD going. So if you do need some help on the programming, I'm here if need be :)
that would be great man, My mod is postponed at the minute because of my work load at college, We just started c++ and we have a year of java over us so programming isnt my strongest characteristic, but i can use most of the 3d software packages pretty well for modeling like XSI, MAX and Carrara etc and ive ported a load of .obj's into the game successfully
:)
so if you help as well just shout, you can add me on steam if you like and we can talk more steam ID = phantompredator
dude, you are a friggin saint for posting this series of video tuts. Thank you SO SO SO much. I've only watched the three briefly to see what was possible, so I haven't actually performed it yet. I can tell you've provided enough info and I actually look forward to implementing my own animated HUD element in my mod. Keep them up for the love of god!
Blow your nose, dude!

what don't make since is that you have to put on the other instead of 2009 engine they should fix the 2009 one but it really don't matter.
