  • i still don't think it will replace the chinook or other heavy lift choppers as it's wing spand means there are places it can't go.

  • They should try making this carry the GAU 8 avenger at the nose.

  • can this jet/helitcopter fight??

  • how the hell they gonna controle that thing if one side gets fucked up by an rpg or anti air? Good luck

  • @ModernWarfare2Owns

How would any other dual-prop aircraft or helicopter cope in a similar situation? I imagine that in forward flight configuration it can continue (albeit limping) as any other dual-prop can, in VTOL configuration, who knows.

At any rate, SEAD operations are always carried out in areas where troop-transporting or attack aircraft are in operation, and it no doubt possesses/will possess IR countermeasures of its own.

  • 75% less quieter than a helicopter?????? at 6:53 it sounds pretty loud

  • @lazyhl1994 Keep in mind that they were pretty close before it got loud, and also remember that noise exponentially decreases over distance. They didn't reference what distance the Osprey was at, or what they test noise level at - or which helicopter they were comparing it to. Just remember that Future Weapons just does brief overviews - not all the details.

  • I would imagine this would be really easy to shoot down

  • the blades are sooooo huge

  • They should have this in the next GTA

  • i say it glides like a rock

  • Why props?....why not ducted fans like the Harrier or like the new F-35? Then it could take-off or land in either mode. It seems like they just couldn't let go of the helicopter features...but are they needed?

  • @JetMechMA I believe I can answer this, the turbine engines in the Osprey are interconnected, so if one fails, the other turbine can still drive both blades. If you have a jet engine, and one fails the aircraft will flip over and people will die. This aircraft can glide if both engines fails, but it´s autorotation capabilities are very limited and below 1600 feet in hover mode, you are shit outta luck...

  • @JetMechMA

also the harrier and the F-35 are both fighters and carry only the pilot.

the Osprey needs to carry troops and equipment. I think props would be better? that's what I think so

  • its easy to fly?

  • real graphics...lol

  • @AnonymusKlex

    veryyy real :D

    i remember Operation flashpoint xD

  • this thing is also the most dangourous aircraft in the us military. They can make all the changes they want the fact still remain that its base design makes it very easy to lose control if not traveling at the proper angles.

  • @f0rumrr

that's why they TRAIN pilots, and why they all have to do extremely well at physics and trigonometry.

  • @fluffeesh No Marine Corps pilot has to do physics and trig. No clue what you're talking about. Some occasional mental math, but that's about it.

  • Well, they still require it.

  • @f0rumrr every metal that flies, or gets speed is dangerous ... you can't guess when that cuts you off

  • lol nice Heli

  • GOD DAMN!!! What a beautiful aircraft. I hope it helps killing bad guys so much easier & funner

  • half life 1 there is the fly ing and let troops go down wires

  • What happens in combat when someone shoots one of the engines or props? The props are too big to land like an airplane in case of engine failure, although I would assume some sort of auto-rotation would assist, and having a prop shot up would also result in the inability to land vertically exposing the same weakness as a helicopter's tail rotor. I suppose it wouldn't be worse than a helicopter in that situation, but it doesn't look like it has the wing area to land like a plane.

  • Comment removed

  • @travelbytommy It can land like an airplane, and in fact it can fly in airplane mode with one prop inoperative. When landing in such a scenario, the props are designed to 'broom straw' when they strike the ground, so the pieces don't penetrate the fuselage. I have heard that it can actually climb with one propeller working when its in airplane mode.

  • the osprey cannot auto-rotate, however if an engine fails the other engine can pick up the slack and deliver power to the failed engine via the interconnecting driveshaft system.

  • They construct the Mv-22's in my hometown of Amarillo texas :D the plant is next to the airport and they fly around the city allot for testing oh ya fun fact they also made the UH-1 "huey" in amarillo (Bell is in amarillo lol )

  • it is being used now

  • The Enclave is in US Think about it Fallout 3 thats their plane.

  • It's awesome. Great for quick deployments not just for Special Operations use but it can be used for USMC fast deployments. Shows another perfect example for deploying USMC MEU(SOC) units quicker onto the battlefield and fast deployment. MV-22 Osprey kicks #%&. Hopefully another version of a VTOL transport will be with jet engines in the future like around 2014. Hopefully. Gotta give credit to these engineers who created it. Congrats to them.

  • Like the Skyranger from UFO: Enemy Unknown

  • it like the vertabirds in fallout 3

  • So basically, in a couple of years, this is what the military will be using?

    Thats amazing.

  • they have alrdy depoloyed mv-22s to select marine regiments 2 battle test it

  • @rilosafe1

what the Marines and Airforce are ALREADY using

  • That guy's voice is annoying.

  • that's right

  • HELLOOO

  • you should say it to his face

  • haha so true

  • which guy?

    ;P

  • He is a shill.

  • Also I think, that If you want a special forces operation or a surprise attack, you need something quick, swift and silence. This was just has the first one.

  • they say its 75% quieter than a helo, but that does not sound quite right. we've got an airforce base nearby, and they've recently been flying them around our development. they're actually a lot louder than the blackhawks they used to fly.

  • well, that's obvious. Any airplane makes a hell of noise. When it's a chopper, (maybe) it makes less noise.

  • noise very much depens on form, shape and relative angle of the rotor blades to the other rotor blades

so you cant really generalize the fact that all helicoptors are quieter

  • when you have spec ops its more speed than noise even though it is a big factor

    speed kills......

just sayin ageein tat noise is important but speed is the most important

  • the canot eject

  • It can perform a roll on landing with the nacelles at about a 45 degree angle, so basically like a regular plane there is a video on here of them landing like a plane the video is by ospreymech, just type that in. Comparing this to a harrier isnt a very fair comparison, the harrier is much smaller and has a way different function. Harriers are awesome though.

  • resistance(game) riped this off

  • so did halo

  • 0:55 astonishingly realistic graphics?

  • think how effective an attack or gunship version of this would be

  • true... but a big deal is made out of the V22's VTOL capabilities when it wasn't the first aircraft to have them. to me, the Harrier is a far more impressive piece of machinery- it uses jets instead of rotors, i mean, that's pretty cool.

  • hey ppl.. can this thing do a normal landing like an airplane??... seems to me the rotors stick out too much beneath the fuselage to do that.. so if the nacelles got stuck in airplane mode, its curtains for the plane right?.. the crew could prob eject..

  • Nope when it lands the osprey always has its rotors in the uppward position but it has the ability of short take off and landing

  • they are getting a lot of publicity nowadays, in movies and shit. and yeah, they aren't as good as a heli or a plane, so they aren't specialized. that's the idea- a long-ranged versatile VTOL transport. ad they aren't the only VTOL plane, there are Harrier jump-jets as well.

  • but those use lots of fuel comparatively and cant carry troops

  • I love also Osprey, perfect machine for Special forces/operations.

I would like to have them in my countries armed forces.

  • i love the osprey

  • imagine trying to mid-air refuel that thing in bad weather at night. good luck to whoever is flying it.

  • Actually, the Osprey is able to make a smooth, but rushed landing with one engine out because of driveshafts running from one nacelle to the other, so that both rotors can be driven off of one engine. It does need more than one .30 cal though...

  • True, it may be mostly a transport, but it does need better armaments, like the weapons found on an Apache or Cobra. I'm going into the MArines to become a pilot of one of those.

  • I'm no airplane tech but I am a diesel tech. If ANY vehicle loses 50% of it's power it's toast especially aircraft. Not to mention that it will be quite difficult to make an emergency landing if it's in Heli mode.

  • well actually it can make a landing in VTOL using 1 engine to power 2 rotors. It has been done before in the testing procedure.

  • it will be the best!!! it needs time like the 747

  • this helicopter/airplane has been in

    Half-life 1

  • Like a lot of stuff on Future Weapons, the US military won't adopt the Osprey for quite a while I bet because of cost:(:( Too bad.

  • sorry to inform you, but the air force already taken in a few.

  • yeah the Marine Corps has 340 of these things on order and already has a couple of squadrons in Iraq

  • I think the Osprey has such a bad reputation because it is a new concept and nothing like this has been made before.

Too bad the past of this aircraft has been haunted by failures from the past.

  • That crap is gonna freakin revolutionize the battlefield.just like almost everyweapon on the show. i luv FutureWeapons

  • Man id love to fly one of those they look badass, I hope they have fixxed all the issues and all. I love the large Blades they got on it looks so fucking badass.

  • that simulator rocks! I want one too!

  • Now that is a Future weapon, none of this stealth bullshit.

  • Hell yeah sypherffs!

  • it is not only enemies from this planet, in the far future...have to keep a good tip top military

  • 我们想弄到这技术

  • 5:00 They should give it a longer probe if it's that risky.

  • there is only so long the probe can be. the block B and Cs have retractable probes, which limits that length. plus.....all mid-air refuelings are risky.

  • Explain about the probe length limitation.

  • all I meant was that theoretically, you can only have the probe be so long, because the longer it is, the more unstable the probe, and the more likely it is to affect flight performance

  • keep your liberal troops dissing to yourself, some of us value they're sacrifice. and don't give me the brass is bad crap, they sacrifice just as much as the grunts, if not more. the osprey is fine, but theres no pilot that can fly it without computer assistance, which it just got.

  • Brass sacrifices more than enlisted troops?!

  • ALL troops sacrifice! who are we to say who sacrifices more? the brass? The pilots? the grunts? what does it matter? The grunts do they're job and they're job has nothing to do with criticizing weapons. The brass on the other hand does.

  • Keep your liberal shit out of this...

  • this thing wont just help the military, therell clearly be hundreds of civilian applications too. just like the helicopter, itll save more lives than itll take.

  • if you guys like FutureWeapons look at Tom Clancy's EndWar

  • its like a fixed winged aircraft with rotary blades.... they should put a minigun it would way be cooler

  • It's getting a belly mounted minigun.

  • heh... before you know it, we will have the hornets from halo...

  • ^-^

    now that would rock

This thinglooks liek it will really help the troops.

  • it would be awesome if they replaced the rotors with pulse jet turbines.

  • n00b

  • they shud put a 40mm autocannon and a twin 30mm mingun and 120mm stinger missles that wud be awesome

  • But that would mean it wouldn't be able to transport as much weight. Probably the miniguns are enough.

  • You wouldnt be able to mount anything under the wings or else youd shoot through those massive proprotors in fwd flight and a side mounted gun would likely shoot the nacells when hovering. Belly mounted minigun is in the works but keep in mind, its already got a guy sitting on the ramp with a machine gun to cover troop egress. Weight is an issue too.

  • get to da choppaaaa!!!

  • @rrrcorvesco Well said....Mostly ^O^

  • When they put guns on it it'll be even better.

  • apparently there realy hard to fly, and not just cuz it turns into a plane, i heard there soooo much differnt to any chopper in chopper mode if u get me, n there not as stable n stuff but i dunno probs wrong haha

  • what are the blades made of cuz shirting for forwored to vritcle takes a lot on the blades

  • im going 2 answer my own question n case nobody knew

the reason they dont replace the props w/ jets is because if it lands n a field it might catch it on fire...duh i should have figured that out right away

  • Stay safe, VMM-263

    Keep your turns up!

    ..Vietnam, HMM-263, Peachbush squadron,

    UH-34D (The Dog)

  • Why use rotors when harrier/f-35 styled turbines are the way to go? They are far faster.

  • because they also burn up insane amounts of fuel when in full hover mode.

  • not to mention they crash a lot.

  • what sets it apart is that it can be both a chopper and a plane. it can fly at fixed wing speed and land in a flat field.

allthough theres probably too many moving parts to be safe, but we'll see how it does on its first deployment!

it if works great, then the Marines can get rid of the ageing CH-46's.

  • the oregon air gaurd has 4 or 6 of these things and they arent as loud as they "should" be. MAn are they ugyl though

  • This looks like something from a transformer movie... what a sec... it was in the last transformer movie

  • with so much toys for the special operation guys. do those guys really need to be on the ground anymore?

  • I agree...So many bugs outweigh the benefits. I read an article about this thing and it just doesn't seem worth it. Has the benefits of a plane and heli but has the disadvantages of both too. And a REAR mounted .30 cal?? Come on now. And if one engine fails...Game Over man.

  • Helicopters have rear mountd guns, the CHinook is one example

  • Yes but the chinook and others also has a side mounted gun and overall more reliability and protection than the Osprey. Don't get me wrong I like the idea but I think it's a little ahead of it's time...If there weren't so many greedy people in our country, R&D could get the necessary funds to be able to utilize the best technology for this aircraft.

  • What's so good about this plane? Their are tons of plane which can go faster than this and can carry more payload than this.

  • um, it is a VTOL. do you know what that means?

  • But they cannot land in a small patch of clearing in a forest. This removes the need of a air strip.

  • insted of propellers could they put jet engines on the end of those wings?

  • Like on terminator 3!

  • wow they so should put some guns on tht thing. It is still sick though

  • Though this is good, but what happens if one of the propellers destroys?

  • you can see these in the simpsons movie

  • that guys voice is kinda anoying

  • haha, you meant the last part right? if it is, yah, it does kinda sound anoying.

  • The host's voice sucks, but he's a former Navy SEAL.

I saw this Osprey thing in the Transformers movie.

  • Dangerous piece of shit that will kill more men than it delivers. You fly the simulator because the plane crashes most of the time.

  • the helo to plane mode was fixed with new electronis and hydrolics. when they were first being developoed they were a mess but theyve been in service for 5 years now with no problems. keep in mind thevs been hacking at this thingt since the 80's

  • Yeah. Safety is way better now. They have been operating in Iraq for almost a year without major incident, or any incident that I'm aware of. Otherwise, we probably would have heard all about it.

  • osprey is really cool

  • thx for teh video. kewl chopper/plane.

  • All right, the Osprey's making a comeback!

  • Wow thats pretty cool thanx 4 posting
