  • Watch out for the temp probe port going bad on that 550. Mine just went bad. Oh and theres a video on here about the 550 telling you to leave it in auto mode where it wont damage the manifold when you swap from heat to cool on heat pumps or on larger hot gas defrost systems like I work on. I see you made this in 2010. If your like me you wished you waited for the 557 instead of getting excited about the newest toy. lol

  • @hwebb545454 Hey whats up man !!!

I have been lucky mine work Great , have had them over 2 years and No Problems !!!

The only issur with the Later Models is you need a Grounding Clamp !!!

I always have mine set to Snowflake and Fire !!!

I prefer to utilze a Stand Alone Micron gauge so I can do a Blank Off test right at the Valves !!!

The 557 is Very Nice , but I don't need all those Bells and Whistles !!! LOL ...

Thank You very much for commenting !!!

  • -against static discharge.

  • @jagmechtech Hey whats up man !!!

    Thats absolutely right !!!

I have the old style , I use a pipe clamp & I welded on a fitting to make it easier to ground , instead of using the Hog Head Clamp they shipped out !!!

    Thank You for commenting !!!

  • The ground clamp was for the first generation of 550. Now they are grounded through temp probes. So you have to connect the clamps to protect agai

  • Watching video's now Fritz. I was concerned at first about the Testo 550. I read a lot of comments on some hvac talk forums about needing a ground clamp for the meter. Some said Testo actually sent them a ground clamp for them. You know anything about that or was that earlier models before the kinks were taken out. I will get hoses in the morning for sure. Also interested in what kind of vacume pump you have. 0 microns is super low.

    Thanks

  • @TheMossyback Hey whats up Man !!!

  • Hello Fritz; I have been watching your video's about the Testo 550's. I made my decision to purchase one last week from your video's. Just took it out on my first service call Friday 20th. I have always been confused about superheat and sub-cooling. Your video's have been teaching me a lot. I have not mastered them yet. I have just been charging off my regular gauges but now hooking up is a new adventure. Do you have a video explaining all the functions of the Testo 550? Thanks

    The Mossyback

  • Welcome to the Rheem/Ruud family lol, and nice Testo, I did have that leak detector it picked up everything but R410A but then it's been about 5 yrs now and I'm sure they fixed that problem, I got a YellowJacket and it's the cat's meow lol, but we all have are go to tools. Man you had a great day brother I'm happy for you.

  • @Nutintoitbut2doit Thank You my Good friend ! I talked to the manufacture ,they did rework the unit ,I was told to keep life of sensor which actually determines the refrigerant to have one for R-22 and one for R-410A ,was told the sensors are designed for 100 hours of service ,but that R410A would significantly shorten life span of sensor if one is used for both ! Yellow Jacket ROCKS !!!

Man I did have a good day yesterday ,good news and emptied my checking account !!! ROFL .

    Thank You Sir !!!

  • @fritzhvac With the good work you do your bank account will be overflowing in no time.

  • @Nutintoitbut2doit Man that truly means the world to me !!!

    Thank You very much !!!

And may I say the same to you my friend !!!

Much luck on all endeavors you come upon !!!

  • I'm a huge advocate of the leak detectors. My Fieldfiece IR detector cues on CHANGES in concentrations, not just on the refrigerant itself. Works great in 'contaminated' spaces. Kudos on picking up the 550. Fieldpiece will be coming out with an analyzer, too. I saw a glimpse of it in a video for their new multi meter...

  • @PutSome5tankOnIt Damn dude , I love Fieldpiece , I will be looking into that too !!!

Yea they are the industry leader in my opinion !!! Thats the shit , mine will be reacting like radar- oriley in a contaminated space !!! LOL ... I guess I will put some back for that too !!! LOL ... Like I said though , I hit limit for awile !!! LOL ...

    Thank You 5tank ....

  • Man next level!!! That is great that you are a Ruud/ Rheem dealer!!! The new Testos are great you are going to love them!!!

  • @dizziedallas Thank You my brother , they took good care of me today if you know what I mean !!! RUUD/RHEEM may the VUVU be with you !!! ROFL ...

Dude I already LOVE them , right out of the box !!! Just install batteries , and you are ready to ROCK N ROLL !!! VU VU BABY !!! LOL ...

Thanks for the GREAT ADVICE DALLAS !!!

  • Nice vid! Not a big house, but I reckon a 2-2 1/2 ton should do it. Depending on that return size... Yikes. Sizing to the ductwork is about the best you can do when retrofitting.

Umm, as for the sniffers... I'm sure many will disagree, but I've had very limited success with them. AC is one thing, but in refrigeration that thing will blare as soon as you open the door. Ultra sonic is best in my opinion, plus little to no trouble, or shipping for service/clean/sensors.

  • @MagicPatrick1 I going 2 ton 13 seer with 65,000 btu 95% furnace , I will be reworking return .

I really don't do restaurant work !!! LOL ... I'll let you handle the Ice Machines , and the walkin coolers !!! LOL ...

A.C. only , buddies got one , seen it action pretty cool , I got extra sensor , I'm keepin in bag , easy to change , one for R-22 the other for R-410a !!! Talked to manufacture , you can use the one , but R-410a is harder on sensor !!!

    Thank You Patrick ...
