  • how does it hold up in very windy conditions? it seems like since it only had to poles with one good gust of wind it would break.

  • @MegaHammer97 these are designed to withstand military activity. they are very strong. i would trust them in highwinds up to around 50mph+. if the pole happened to break you can easily replace with a tree limb. thanks for watching.

  • I see a lot of remarks about how heavy these are, just how much do they weigh?

  • @CrittersCanoeing about 5-6 lbs per shelter half. plus a lb for 5 stakes and it takes two halves and ten stakes for a full tent setup or one half and 5 for a lean-to style. not something you want to backpack if worried about weight. my weights are estamations but close i think.

  • @eyecantcu2 i think i have to agree with ya lol.

  • @FixedByDoc about the floor you said you heard that their was a canvas bottom for it have you tried another half shelter? I'm not sure if it will work but its just a thought.

  • @Theenemy38 actually i tried after this video and it turns out it works perfectly. i think this may be what i had heard of and that there isnt an actual seperate peice who knows but i know own three halves cause it works well. thanks for the idea though.

  • @FixedByDoc cool man I think I'm gonna try to get this setup.

  • @Theenemy38 its heavey but very useful.

  • Canvas has lots of advantages when you use open fires ... if only it wasn't so heavy.

  • @steintanz i just got the bug net that goes with it. i will be using it for the truck for emergency camping.

  • Good find Doc. really old school that's what i used back then too.

  • @EDINBURGSTAR yep i like it. also my scouts like it. one of them used most of the week while i we were at scout camp.

  • @marakabi um i forgot to check out sunchokes but will get to it. i prefer hammocks for long treks but if i have a long time in one spot i think it would be nice to have a large canvas tent like the army GP Small or GP 5...

  • I was looking at those the other day. Thought they were kina' cool :o) But heavy eh!

  • @Ggreenvideos yes they are heavey but just something about canvas tents that make them fun...

  • @FixedByDoc For sure I had one when I was a kid :o)

  • @marakabi yeah there is just somethig about them that makes them fun...

  • Very interesting hearing your own first hand experiences with a military issued tent. I can see how you would like to keep one around for old time sake, and new uses too. Nice setup options.

  • @wawhiker yeah i think i mostly wanted it for the memories. lots of them and this is the only tent that i have spent long term as in months in.

  • My memory of a pup tent was getting my first exspirence of tear gas in basic training. lol

  • @medicjimr been there got tear gased in it too lol.

  • Nice acquisition Doc,

I was going to pick up a couple poly tarps the other day, but did not have the size that I wanted. Guess I will re-think my next purchase, these look pretty useful for just a few bucks more.

  • @TheDogDew im thinking of getting another...

  • man 20 bucks is realy cheap... i realy want one now !

  • @LaneMaddox00 i could see if they ship... its the best price ive ever seen for the whole setup.
