I keep thinking the beat is being made by a kettle. It's pretty annoying to be honest and I guess that's deliberate but it doesn't excuse what I see as unmusicality!
Absolutely one of the best Hip-Hop jams of ALL time...this song still gets me hype lol PE was ahead of their time. This joint will smash anything on the radio now.
I hate the fact, that Flava is presented as a joke, most of the time (even by himself)...and yet, he was apart of one of the greatest music ever made. PE would not be PE, without Flava. I hope all his antics is making him some dollars...he deserves it. He's still the best hype man ever.
Wow .....I remember this in the 80's. This to me is the real deal. Classic rap. It all started here to me. I am not really into rap, but every now and then I sit and listen to certain songs and then understand what is being said here. pain, suffering, disgust ...We all need to come together and love one another. Respect is where it begins. Hey I am just a Hippie stuck in the 60's and 70's, but I give credit to everyone for their hard work.
PE is the greatest GOUP/CREW in the history of Hip Hop. When this shit dropped Rap music was on the map but there was no category that described their sound, lyrics, or image. PE was viewed as a MILITANT group, Later they were considered GANGSTA, then CONSCIOUS....LOL! No group inspired the streets and the classroom equally. Chuck D continues to maintain a high level of credibility. He is a sought after speaker on college campuses and he is welcome in ANY HOOD...U dnt blv me? ax smbdy!
@jules5434 I totally agree with you. I am the mother of the new (honestly I don't know what to call it) rap that to me is nothing but brand dropping. Of 3 sons one gets it listens to Nas and Tupac. PE to him too old school. As the adolescent breaks my heart the power of madison ave. As conscientious as I am peer pressure too strong for 1 of my boys. Breaks my heart
@ebonilia ...I know what you mean. My daughter is 11 and loves Pop music ie. Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift. But thanks to Youtube I have been able to intruduce her to different sounds both old and new. When she was 6 yrs old we would listen to Doobie Bros songs. Now, when she hears their melody in a TV AD, she thinks she pretty hip. Conscious music is still out there and we have more access than ever before. In regard to our children, simply play the music and let it do what it does...
This crew are so deep it's rediculous, the music nowadays are full of nothing except tits, alcohol weed and shit.Radio suckers never play me.The new God is cash, the devil takes over so idiots follow.
Lil Wayne is "Illuminati" controlled as is many popular Bill Board rappers today.
PE's Professor Griff was falsely accused of being against "jews" around 1990, when PE were at their peak of their career. They exposed what we call "the Illuminati" to its fullest - just never using that phrase - and they got punished for it.
In the years to come, real rap got off the Bill Board and released by bling-bling, sex & $ oriented pop/MTV BS with no political critic of society or government.
any one who wear skinny jeans are gay! There are no skinny jeans in the MEN Department! If you don't believe me go check! Lil Wayne is not the best rapper to exist. If you like old school, how can you say that.
@JAYKENNY Cmon son You must be one of those people that wear those gay azz jeans I tell you what I don't like to be force to look at dude wearin tight azz skinny jean leave that 2 women. These artist who promote skinny jeans need to be shot. Back when hip hop was real. skinny jeans wasn't an option...First it was wearing pink, now it skinny jeans and you got wayne kissing dudes on the lips.what is da next style? Rapper are going to have t shirt and panties on & you will follow!
@oryanquest Really? Public enemy liked punk and were punk as fuck and tons of punk bands wore skinny jeans. Why dont you go listen to some more ignorant music to fit you
@dengatoman Come on man! you sound stupid. You have no idea what you are talking about. Stop trying to be an internet thug and go fix bikes or something!
@oryanquest I'm not trying to be an internet thug, I just think its stupid that people can comment on PE videos who were about black power and equality, and then use gay as an insult, and everyone is just okayy with it.
this was back when grown men rapped and had bass in their chest,lol..nowadays you got these lil soft, metrosexual, half a fag ass,emo cats whining and giggling all on rap tracks like school girls

People think I hate all rap 'cause I like metal. But I like rap a lot, OLDSCHOOL!!!!!! New rap sucks dick. Who else agrees? lil wayne is probabaly only popular from whiggers who think they're cool. If you think lil wayne is the best rapper to exist, you're not a rap fan. Rap isn't my first choise of music and I know that.

@ps2stony Well it's just my opinion. Lil Wayne is no where near being an MC. I got so flustered one day one some kid at school tried to say Lil Wayne was the best rapper of all time, then when I countered that with my favorite MC's he then tried to say Lil Wayne had to be in the top 2 best rappers of all time. It's just annoying. And my comment was an oppinionated statment, like it or lump it. Not trying to be cool it's my thoughts. And I listen to N.W.A I was expressing myself.
@97Grimsta Man I know the feeling. I got interested in music because of Metal, but there's good stuff to be found all over the musical spectrum; I listen to all kinds of stuff these days. Petty genre wars have to end.
@97Grimsta Fuck yes man. I am the exact same way. The Wu, Biggie, Tupac, this, old school is where its at. Metal and rock is better IMO, but even a lot of the new stuff there sucks. Popular music in general is going down the shitter.
@jumpingjehosafad Agreed, over produced, use of effects like atuotune (rappers don't even need it) generic song structure and beats, annoying reapting choruses that repeat the same 5 words, THINGS KEEP ON GETTING EVEN MORE SHITTIER BY THE YEAR! Out of all current popular radio music, there's only one artist I like who recieves a lot of comercial airplay and that's Bruno Mars because I actually find him talented. Most music these days without hard digging is *pukes*
In other words, the only difference between Real Rap and Real Metal, is the cultural backround... The tripping about it being one or the other is social barbie drama theme... anyone else who is into both might want to look for a rare ep by Otep: Jihad... it combines both rap and metal, in a way that actually sounds good... \M?
The BombSquad with Hank and Keith Shocklee , their sound was undeniable . Imo ,the PE sound was a heavy influence on other hip hop classic albums like NWA's Straight Outta Compton " and other joints at that time . PE and their team was ruff
"Simple and plain. Give me the lane. I'll throw it down your throat like Barkley" Lyrics like that with X on the turntables.... loved it. I remember back in college this used to be the last song, indicating the party is over and people would be disappointed because this song was so ill and you didn't want the party to end.
VH1 should be petitoned to do a classic album episode dedicated to this epochal, monumental moment in Hip-Hop that is entitled "It Takes a Nation of Million to Hold Us Back..."
Just paid up $19.99 at the record store for the CD, so now I like the Extra noise that only can come from the P.E beats, and it do'es take a Million + "Always"
I remember the summer of 89 I believe when Public Enemy went on tour with LL Cool, Doug E. Fresh, NWA, Eric B. & Rakim. DAMN!!! Greatest rap concert of all times!! Hands down....
@hvyw8tbxr1 That had nothing on Kane, Biz, Doug E., Kool Moe, BDP and Eric B and Rakim in 88- 4 hours of Hip-Hop- with LL fuming backstage while Kool Moe was dissin him
I keep thinking the beat is being made by a kettle. It's pretty annoying to be honest and I guess that's deliberate but it doesn't excuse what I see as unmusicality!
