If you want to invade other countries, or try to take the moral high ground by calling it a humanitarian, peacekeeping mission or the 'war on terror', the least the troops can do is show a little morality. War is tough, which is why if you weren't psychologically prepared for it, you shouldn't have sent troops there in the first place. Such things happened in World War II, and everyone was outraged about it *then*, just as right-minded people are now (and, objectively, the Japanese were far more of a threat to the Americans than the Taliban are today). The rules of war exist for a reason: You either follow them, or you end up with an arms race of "let's see what hilarious things we can do with our enemies' corpses", which doesn't work out too well for anyone.
